July... How hot is it really?

We went at the end of October last year and it was super nice, and didn't rain on us at all. So I'm afraid of the sauna inducing afternoon showers! lol I've been in 100% humidity and it's scary! I'm hoping being at my favorite place will be enough of a distraction :)

Hi, everyone! I have been looking at some of the average highs and they're saying high 80's tops at the present time. I live in South Texas on the coast and its averaging in the high 90's right now. I'm trying to prepare for the heat as best as I can, knowing how hot humidity can make it outside. Do you think it will be about the same as here or do you think it will be hotter? Thanks!

I'm in Austin. It will feel warmer, because it will be more humid. I would say it will feel 5-10 degrees warmer than the actual temp. Plus, you are outside in the sun. I tend to be inside a lot, so sometimes I am not used to the heat, even in Austin. It will feel more like Houston in the summer, but possibly warmer. Plus, there's no ocean breeze like in Houston, so that makes it feel warmer too.

I went one time in July, and it was hot hot hot! And humid humid humid!

Even the backs of my knees sweated! lol

I'd never go again in July.
It's not just July,I've been to WDW several months where the temperature has been 93-98 degrees, those include May,June,July,August,September and even October.Basically any of these months can be out of control hot.Its just that in July and August its pretty much a guarantee it will be that hot along with some of the worst humidity and rain of the year,September is also a killer, temps go down a tad but my point its not just July.I remember one of the hottest days I've spent at the parks was in May waiting for the Star Wars motorcade,it was 97 with feel like temps in the 110-115 range. We had to go back to the room and change since we had soaked our shirts in sweat. The best thing to do in crazy hot days are the waterparks, about 3-4 years ago I went in August in a similar 97+ ,115 heat index day,but we spent the day at Aquatica and did not feel the heat going in and out of the water all day.The next day at Universal I was just drenched in sweat all day,I would have preferred another water park day.

We have gone in July twice, and it was fine each time. We are from PA and it is usually in the 90's here in the summer as well. If it is a particularly humid day, it's sticky, but so many rides and attractions are indoors. We try to hit the parks early, then go to the pool for awhile if we get too hot

We are from the north east and will be making our 4th summer Disney trip in a row this year--- and actually considering a permanent move to FL...so it's not unbearable. Just be prepared and take it slow (well as much as you can in Disney :)).... Make sure you have access to washer / dryer or pack enough for at least 2 outfits per day though...clothes will be saturated from perspiration every day!!

It's pretty brutal, but manageable. We're from northwest Louisiana so we're fairly used to the heat and humidity. But our daughter lives in Nebraska, has all her life, and she actually passed out at Magic Kingdom. The usual tips are to drink plenty of fluids, use things like Frogg Toggs and those misting fans, and duck into the air conditioned shops as often as possible! It is hot, but its totally doable.

So how is October? I'm sure it's better, but how much better? We have never been to Florida, are from the North where the hottest it gets is 85 degrees for about a week and no humidity. We are heat wimps! We are scheduled to go in October and are praying for warm enough weather for swimming in the ocean. But no hurricanes. Ack!

My DS son and i travel every july to fl for the past 6 yrs. We have managed to figure out that if u take it slow and mid afternoon breaks and plenty of water you'll do fine. We look the wk before we go and plan out the magic hrs for the parks.

Usually October is great. Hot, but not too hot. However, it can be surface of the sun hot. And it can be very cold. I had one trip where it was both in a 8 day period. Arrived to record heat, and left wearing jeans and fleece. Just keep an eye on the weather right before your trip.

When we were at AK last July, we heard a four year old boy shout "IT'S AS HOT AS SATAN'S ARMPIT, MOMMY!"

After we all died laughing, we realized he was right. It was stifling and humid and sticky and hard to breathe because the air felt so thick. That kid pretty much has how hot it is in July covered.

If you live in South Texas, I don't think you'll have a problem.
The AC is pumping everywhere (except, it sounds like, at the Polynesian currently...)
I live in SC and it is a non-issue for me. Just as hot and humid here. I'd rather be at WDW!
Obviously, hot and humid. Standing in direct sun can be brutal. Things melt in your car, etc.
Disney has fans in many queues and, as I said, mega air conditioning.

If you're going next month, I'd say hot (90s), humid, and afternoon showers.

have fun! :yay:

We live in California (San Francisco Bay Area). We are weather wimps! Our highs in the summer are usually in the 70s-80s with very little humidity. We might get into the 90s or even the 100s for a few days here and there, and that's considered a weather emergency!

We went to WDW in August of 2013. I work on a school schedule and we still have a son in high school, so our vacations are generally in the summer. My younger son (14 at the time) did very well with the heat. He said he actually liked it. My older son (18 at the time) didn't like it at all. He complained constantly. He ended up getting a cold with a slight fever after a few days, possibly because he was so run down from the heat. My DH OK, but did not enjoy the weather at all. I welcomed the afternoon rain showers and didn't mind getting a little soggy. At least it cooled things down a little.

My sister really hated the heat. She carried her personal fan everywhere. She and I bought Mickey washcloths to wipe our faces and necks. We kept them in zip locks and kept adding cold water and ice. They helped a little, but we were still hot. My sister ended up with a heat rash on her lower legs and ankles. It took a week for it to go away after we got home.

The moral of the story is that we will not visit in the summer again, if at all possible. I am planning a Universal/Disney trip for our next February break. We will be much happier with jeans/sweatshirt weather!

We are going to Disney in August - our first time in the summer (we usually go in October). I keep reminding DH & DD that it is going to be super hot & super humid but I think that's going in one ear and out the other.

I really think the humidity is going to bother my DH. I'm in central Indiana and today it is only 70 degrees but humid. I have the windows in the house open and the ceiling fans going and the temp inside is only 74 degrees but DH keeps telling me how hot it is and he's sweating. Oh boy.

Expect to sweat- a LOT- sweat running down your shins, down you back into your underwear, from behind your knees, on top and bottoms of your feet, etc. If you shower mid-day there's no way you are crawling back into your morning clothes, so bring two complete sets of clothes for each day- from the skin on out!

We found it was hard to drink enough water to keep up with our needs. After awhile of drinking just plain water, we found ourselves feeling bloated and icky, but soda isn't an option for us; nobody likes it. We've taken to carrying the little tubes of powder that you put in drinks or the small bottle of squeezable drops, so the water has a different flavor and is more palatable for us.

I will second the idea of wet washcloths. I usually freeze soggy facecloths overnight in zip top bags, then stash them in an insulated sandwich lunch bag and carry them in my backpack. It's nice to have something cold to wipe off with... and you can get a cup of ice from the QS stand to put into the washcloth bag if it warms up too much. I found some personal fans in Walmart, that you wear around you neck- they're about the size of an iPod. They are pretty effective in blowing cooling air on your neck and face. I think they were about $5 each.

We also use spray antiperspirant on our feet in the morning, to keep them from sweating, chafing, and blistering. It's not 100% effective, but it sure does help... at least for awhile!

I keep reading about the 2 sets of clothes/day. Gives me a good reason to goes clothes shopping! :)

Last year I went in October, from the 8th till the 17th. It was hot, but nothing terrible. Definitely doable. We weren't sweating or anything.
