July 9th 2005 - West Coast Cruise.

Cheri...I thought about trying to do the dolphin thing on our own way back before Disney posted the excursions...the Dolphin place told me I could not book through them because they have ALL spaces reserved for Disney the day they are in port each week. :guilty: But hey, maybe the dolphin excursion was only popular on our week...tell your friend to try to call and reserve...then call back weekly and ask about cancellations if they don't have anything now. I read about someone else on another thread doing that...and they ended up with spots for their family of 5! There's always hope! :wizard:

Hey...I just saw this on the May 28th, 2005 thread...

Revised Dining Schedule!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ATTENTION CRUISERS!!! There has been a change in dinner seating times. When my docs arrived they handed me a paper that says........

"Due to guest feedback, there will be a slight change in the rotational dining times. Guests currently schedualed on Main Dining will be assigned a dining time of either 5:45pm, 6:00pm, or 6:15pm. Concurrently, guests scheduled on Second Dining will be assigned seating times of either8:00pm, 8:15pm or 8:30 p.m. It is our hope that these staggered dining times will provide for greater ease of movement throughout the ship and prior to and following the dinner service. All guests should check their dining tickets located in their stateroom upon arrival for their assigned time and restaurant location. In addition, each evenings entertainment options will be revised to compliment the revised dining times. Nightly entertainment options will be detailed in the Personal Navigator that guests will recieve in their stateroom."

Hmmm...interesting!

Interesting. Did you also read on the transitional cruise that many haven't gotten their docs yet. They are getting a little stressed. I don't remember when we got our docs. I even saw that those cruises have room on them. Lots of people cancelled I guess when the bill came in. Now, if you want to go you have to pay a premium because those people who booked multiple cabins jacked up the prices on that day in May last year. I guess if someone wanted to go last, last minute, they might get a deal because they want to sell it out. I checked the DCL website and there are 2 Mexican cruises in July where there are cabins available. Very interesting. I should check to see how much it would be to book a cabin today.

Karen...I've been going over the navigators with Alexis. She DEFINITELY wants to go the the Lab with the 8-9 year olds. Since she just turns 8 in May, we were originally contemplating having her go the club with the 5-7s so she would be with her brother at night. But we think he'll be fine on his own, and she's much more interested in the activities in the lab and hanging out with 8-9 year olds instead of 5 year olds.

So...Alexis is very excited that Megan will be there too. :cheer2: It looks like they will be the only 2 from our DIS group in the 8-9s (at least on the list I have--is there an update?)...oh wait, I've penciled in Quinton (scouter-kid) as a new addition...he's 9, so he'll be in that group too.

Oh, and Alexis will be thrilled when I tell her she'll have someone other than her brother to hang out at the beach with. Hopefully Lori and her crew will be coming to the beach too...her DS4 will be a perfect fit for my DS4!!

Kim,

What do you think about that? Maybe we could all just go there like that other post. Maybe if we all didn't go in together we wouldn't be so noticed. It seems like they would want the business. I just can't see paying $30 for the kids. Let me know what you think.

I am so happy Alexis is excited about the clubs. Our two little Brownies will have such a good time! Are you going to bring any beach toys with you? I was at least thinking of bringing a couple shovels. They love to make sand castles (even Ryan).

Hey, who's Kelsey. Did I miss someone? Anyway, welcome.

Karen...I agree. That price is steeper than DCL! And when I went to the link they gave about their new beach club, it was described as the "sexiest place on earth" where "hip" people gather! Not sure that's the place for my family! :rotfl:

I'm kind of leaning toward my original plan right now...the Hacienda. From what I've read, it's more family-oriented and private, less wild and crazy party-oriented. And...it's where we have our parasailing adventure reserved in the morning as of now. We just take a water taxi from the tender pier to get there...and it would be a short walk if we wanted to check out any of the party places or restaurants other than the ones at the hotel...or do some shopping. What do you think? I guess we just need to keep the ideas coming and read what other cruisers have to say about the different resorts too.

Here's a link to the Hacienda... http://www.haciendabeachresort.com/

I'd like to bring some beach toys, but I have no idea if I'll have space yet. Maybe there will be room in the kids' "cruise" backpacks. Something cheap that I could leave in Mexico would be great!

Wherever we end up, the beach will be really fun!!! The girls will have a blast!! Our parasailing will be in the morning, so even if we decide to go somewhere other than the Hacienda, we could meet there after our adventure. I know you said you didn't want to get up too early! ;)

OK...thought you guys might appreciate this! I just finished helping Alexis with the presentation board for the current event she has to do on Thursday. And what is the topic, you ask? Well..."The Disney Magic Comes To The West Coast" of course! She's going to wear her Mickey ears and Mickey t-shirt for the presentation, and will hand out Mickey lollipops to those with correct answers to the questions at the end!! Are we obsessed or what? :earboy2:

:wave2: Hello all, I just rediscovered this thread for July 9 cruisers. When I last posted (as pferrell) there were only 3-4 pages-I can't believe it's up to 80. :earseek: Since I last posted we moved to a new house and it took me a while to get computer and house set up. Finally feeling like home.
Anyway, I do recognize some of the names from way back in the beginning. I'm Patty from Portland, Oregon. My ds is 8 and dd is 6. (Trevor and Hayley)
We are travelling with my sister's family on the cruise. Visiting DL before the cruise, from July5-9th.
Soccer dad Chris-you asked me many months ago what part of Portland we live in. Actually we just moved to Lake Oswego, lived in Oregon City for 16 years before that. Loving the new house-it has a pool which is not that common in Ptld for obvious reasons. Someday we may even get to swim in it. :goodvibes
I've been following the thread on which beach to go to. Playa Medano is great-lots of hotels, restaurants and activities. We actually stayed at the Melia once, and it was nice. That was before kids though. I remember really liking the beach for all the activities and ease of going into town. I think any hotel on this beach would serve well as a beach day destination. Lori-my thoughts are with you, so sorry to hear about your stroke. Patty

Well, another day another left side not working... We do plan on going to the beach in Cabo, so the kids will have a blast!! Hopefully today will be better, but since I've stopped the steroid, my tingling has goten worse. Off to the neurologis tomorrow..... I'm on my own today, Darren has to go in, so I'll either be on MUCH more frequent or MUCH less, we'll see how the day goes..... Welcome to all those who've joined, and maybe I'll be able to get shirts when I feel better in a couple of weeks, so Scouter-Dad, keep the store open for me!!

Kim - Are you doing the parasailing through JT Watersports? I have their website bookmarked and was planning on finding them when we get to Cabo. I thought about pre-booking but we weren't sure we wanted to be committed to a time. Also, we are also going to the beach in PV and we're not sure if we'll do any of the watersports there.

That's too funny about the presentation Alexis is doing. Sounds just like our house. Last year Erica was in a speech competition with her afterschool program. Guess what her speech was on? DCL. She got third place for her grade. I posted the speech on the cruise board at the time. I'll see if I can dig up that post.

Welcome back Patty!

Lori - Hope you have a good day! :sunny:

Welcome back Patty!

Kim, your idea sounds great to me! I figured we would leave the ship around 8:30 or 9:00 AM. Do you think we can use their facilities for free? It looks like a beautiful place.

Lori, I hope you appointments go well today.

Karen

We got our shirts :bounce: :bounce: Now all I have to do is dye Lexi's & we're set - all we need is for July to get here...

Sara

ps. Lori I hope that your body recovers from this quickly.

Yes...I have the parasailing booked through JT Watersports. We currently have a 9:30 time booked. They said they will have a water taxi at the tender pier to take us over to the beach, and we can take one back to the tender pier when we're done for the day. They will also take us over to Lover's Beach if we want to go there.

Welcome back Patty!
Got my replacement shirt today and everything looks great! I really can't wait for July!!!

I have been sitting on a few questions for some time and am presenting them at this time:

Someone had mentioned adding the green Mickey's to the mailfish. We have the HD Green Mickey's, but what is a mailfish?

Who has the most recently updated cheat sheet of members for our group?

Someone mentioned a Disboard newsletter - is there such a thing?

When can we or can we request a dining rotation? Can you change your rotation? What is the best night to schedule Palo Dinner - Formal? Parrot Cay? 2nd night at same restaurant? Chef's Favorite Menu?

I only know one answer:
Someone had mentioned adding the green Mickey's to the mailfish. We have the HD Green Mickey's, but what is a mailfish?
Outside your cabin door, there will be a little clip in the shape of a fish that will occasionally receive mail for the cabin occupants. For example, since my DH & I are Castaway Club members we will probably receive an invitation to the CC reception that will show up on our mailfish sometime before said reception.

OK, technically this isn't an answer, it's an opinion. The whole dining thing is really personal preference (although I believe that you can not request a specific rotation unless you have also booked the Romantic Escape at Sea package, or you're Chris & Cheri in a cat3 or above). Many people prefer to have formal night in Lumiere's since it's a more formal restaurant, but there are a lot of opinions about this. Basically, I think, it doesn't matter where you dress up, but for some it does matter.
