July 9th 2005 - West Coast Cruise.

Kim--I keep forgetting to ask--did you buy that Land's End beach bag? My friend gave me the catalog and I am thinking about it. She did say she saw at Old Navy a really nice beach bag that was that nylon stuff that is all holey--what's that stuff called? Anyway, she said it was really big and cost only $7.50. I am going there this week and check to see if they have it.

Most of us (including Chris) are currently betting that his wallet (of KTTW card) is going to hate him on 7/16...
Don't worry about that, Sara. My experience from our last two Magic cruises is that buying sail-away drinks will be a rounding error in our on-board account by the time we're done!! My bet is that the chocolate-covered strawberries for the at-sea party will be a bigger hit on the bankbook than the sail-away drinks!!

Craig, Christine, and Quinton:
Welcome to our little group. We're glad to have you along!!! Looking at the deck plan, it appears you guys are only 5 or 6 doors down from us (we're in 8102).

Lori (the one from NJ): Hurry up and get your upgrade so that we'll have a cluster of DIS posters there on Deck 8!! :bounce: :bounce:

Chris

BTW, Sara/Mike, I forgot to mention that I'm in SF again today, but as usual, had no opportunity to do any socializing. Maybe next time. I'm currently on an hour break in my meetings here, time enough for a quick post to the DIS!!

Karen...I DID get that Land's End bag. Based on Lori's (from NJ) recommendation, I ordered the XL. It is HUGE, and will be perfect for carrying EVERYTHING to the beach...4 towels, 4 sets snorkel gear, sunscreen, toys, etc. I'm thinking of ordering a Large or Medium sized one to use for trips to the pool, etc. when I won't have to be carrying EVERYTHING. Can't decide which size would be best for this. I've been looking for some good carry-all bags ever since we finally finished with the diaper bag stage...the cruise just gives me an excuse to buy them now!

Karen...I am worried about Randi's reference to being "overbooked" as well, but after the response Sara got, I'm kind of afraid to ask! :confused3 Does that mean that she'll be taking more riders than usual but will take everyone that booked, or does that mean that someone won't have a horse or will have to go in separate groups? Since all of us are from these boards, I really don't want to have to split up!

Sara...I, too, have been anxiously awaiting any info about an outside vendor for gift baskets. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary, DH's 35th birthday, and the kids' first cruise ever on this cruise! I've ordered the REAS, so we get a basket with that. I bought a mickey and tinkerbell backpack at Downtown Disney that I guess I will fill myself with lots of cruise goodies. I'll probably have to give it to them that morning, though, or the night before...cuz it'll be too hard to sneak them in and get them in the cabin for them. I don't know what to do about a birthday surprise for DH...the DCL birthday basket has a stuffed pluto to be autographed...not exactly what I had in mind! :sad2: Any ideas?

Kim,
4 posts in a row!!! You're sure doing your part....at this rate, you'll get us to that 90 pages all by yourself!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

If you want to surprise them, one of us (I don't want to volunteer anyone but myself) could always sneak something to your cabin steward. You'd just have to get to it to whomever is willing to run a sneak-play for you.

As for your DH, it really depends on what he likes. In the Disney vein, there are some nice things in the Treasure Ketch that might work. If it was me, I'd work out a nice present, and arrange a special presentation - either by having a discreet word with my cabin steward or the waitstaff...

Mike just called from home to let me know that he booked space for us with Mike's Gentle Horses. They were very nice to him over the phone, and aren't even going to charge for Lexi (they'll put her on a pony with a guide, and if that doesn't work out, they'll let her ride double with whichever of us she needs). They're also willing to accomodate Mike's size. Our ride, too, ends at Victor's, so we can get a little beach time & possibly some window shopping before Lexi needs her afternoon nap.

PROLOGUE

I HAVE READ ALL 59 PAGES. The only other documents that get this kind of attention from me are my Tax Returns and Cruise documents. I fear we missed the boat but hope we are only fashionably late.

I am not interested in a drink; I only want to play the game. What follows is my epic novel to aid as we race towards 90.

Sara- could you have Mike PM me the number for the Gentle Horses, please?

My mom lives not to far from Disneyland and my stepmother lives down the street (sort of) from the pier so I'll ask both of them to do a little rooting around for basket places. I'll bet, though, that Shirley will find someone fairly quickly.

Everyone have their excursion lists ready? I'm trying to figure out how to program my fax machine to automatically fax to DCL at 12:01 am Sunday, but since I don't always program the coffee pot correctly, I'm not holding out much hope. :earboy2:

Cheri...I forgot to call DCL today!!! :sad2: Do you think they process the faxes FIRST, before the calls that come in at 8:00 am?

Kim :flower:

Christine,
We will be on board 7/9 too and my son just turned 9. I am fairly new to the boards too but I have already found a ton of useful info!

Christine will be glad to hear. Where are you from? Are you a california local? Christine will post a reply in morning.

IMO, no. There is probably one or two CM's who's job it is to process the faxes and probably the e-mail requests as well. Not every CM at DCL probably does this. They'll get to them quickly I'm sure, but if you're really trying to get a REALLY popular excursion, your best bet is to call at 8AM on Sunday. Which I know for you West Coasters is REALLY early!!!

Ok...5 a.m. it is, then!!!

Oh my, 5 am?! 'Bed Head' and 'Happy Hair' are very much the style that time of the morning! Thank goodness it won't be a teleconferencing call, uh? Since we want to sign up to swim with the dolphins I'll be calling early too. Any word, good or bad, on the Chileno Bay Snokerling Adventure in Cabo?

Amy

Amy...I haven't read anything about the Chileno Bay snorkeling adventure, good or bad. Unfortunately, we're "locked out" of any snorkeling excursions because DS is only 4! :sad2:

My daughter is really bummed, because she really wants to try snorkeling! I was going to try the water taxi over to Lover's Beach to do a little snorkeling on our own, but lately I've read some scary things about getting in and out of those little boats at Lover's Beach...I'm afraid she'd be traumatized before she even started!
