Hello CarolAnn

Yes, here, in UK, no good for exchange money for dollars:scared1:

Last May, 2.00 for one pound and now 1.58 for one pound.

I am hoping dollars go up as I paid the deposit of dollars which was very high pounds.

Now we hold the pounds until dollars go up?

Euros - rubbish 1.22 for one pound.

Expensive in Spain because of Euros:sad2:

Going to start a couple of easy cutbacks here, such as cancelling an AOL account we still have, and possibly some magazine subscriptions as they run out.

Might be a good New Year Resolution! ..to cut back on some luxury items. Our trip for next year is the WDW vacation I won at Doorway to Dreams here in Chicago, so should save some travel money next on that at least.

Did you know that if you cancel a magazine before the subscription runs out, they will often refund you the money? So if you have some mags that you aren't reading that still have some time, it's worth a call to their customer service to see if you can cancel and receive a refund.

We have a trip to DL for June 2009 for Nathan's 13th birthday. We're using DVC points for the hotel, but will have tix and airfare, etc. to pay for. I'm heading over to the Disneyland boards in the next few weeks so I can start planning how to do DL for less.

ok everyone...we are splurging tonight. It is our 27th wedding anniversary :lovestruc and we are doing dinner and going to the show! Then we will be good for a year or more!!. Always wanted to see Mama Mia and found a place it is still playing. Might feel guilty but I think 27 years is worth a dinner and movie...:confused3

Welcome back! Glad you enjoyed your trip in Sunny Spain. I think I am going to buy some of the currency and put it away for the trip. We have so many different ones that we will be using on the cruise.

Wow, did not know that about the magazine subscriptions. Which hotel are you staying at DL? We love the Grand Californian..

We're staying at the Disneyland Hotel because it was the best value for our points. We stayed there in 1999 while they were still building DCA.

I got this from our T.A. about visas for St. Petersburg:
In order to board the ship, all U.S. Citizens/U.S. Residents are
required to carry proof of citizenship. Guests without proper
documentation will be denied boarding. Proper Documentation for Guests
claiming U.S. Citizenship/U.S. Residency is one the following:

*A valid, unexpired U.S. Passport ? Please note: This must be valid at
least 6 months after the sailing has ended.

*Permanent Resident Card/Green Card/ARC - If you live and work in the
U.S. and are a legal permanent resident a Valid, unexpired, Permanent
Resident Card, also known as the "Green Card" or "Alien Resident Card
(ARC)" must be provided.

Guests who purchase any available shore excursion or tours organized
through Disney Cruise Line in St. Petersburg will not require a visa for
Russia. Under such conditions, Guests will need to present the
following items to the Russian Immigration officer when departing the
ship:

*A valid passport
*A Disney Cruise Line tour ticket
*One photocopy of passport page showing the Guest's picture and personal
information

However, please note that without a visa, visitation is limited to the
period of the excursion and Guests will not be permitted to leave the
ship outside of the tour hours without a Russian Tourist Visa.

Guests who wish to sightsee independently or sightsee outside of Disney
Cruise Line's shore excursion hours must obtain an individual Russian
Tourist Visa before leaving home.

Hope that helps for anyone in their planning.

We had a wonderful ten hour day full of conferences also about 15 min each. This year I'm teaching third grade. I love it but at the end of the day I'm exhaust. We don't do our grades online but we do submit them through a computer program. I keep everything on the computer. Then i have a hand written copy and two saved copies of the computer file. I'm a little parniod about this becasue last year the dya grades were due my computer crashed and I did not have a save copied or a hand written one. It was a disaster

Lissa

I can feel your pain, Lissa! My conferences are at the start of November, and they are ten hours in length at fifteen minute incriments. How long do yours go for? Also, what grade do you teach again? I think from the Med cruise you said you teach elementary, but I forget which class exactly. We have to do all of our grades online and parents have access to their student's grades on every assignment in every class. It's quite a good tool! Do you do that, too, or is everything hand recorded? I hand record, too, just in case lol

I'm saving money by just taking $20 cash each week and stashing it away like an old school hoarder. :lmao:

My coworker had a Happy Meal for lunch yesterday. She got a London Barbie as her toy and gave it to me. She's sitting on my desk now as a reminder that I work to travel :rotfl2:

Cindy, that is SO COOL about the London Barbie! :)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

a little off topic...

My DS Jack (6 almost 7) is a Wolf Cub Scout. Anybody out there outside the USA with a DS or DD in elementary/primary school willing to take on a penpal? One of Jack's academic merits for language and culture is to have a penpal in another country. If interested, just PM me and we can go from there. i really appreciate it. :) Thank you!!!!

Just wanted to say we are booked. We booked last week but it has taken this long to get up to date on all these posts. We were on the 7/7/07 Med cruise. It will be me, DW, 3 DD (18, 14, and 11), DS 5, and my parents. We can't wait.

There are 3 shows coming up in the nest 2 weeks pertaining to our cruise.
All 3 are on HDNET - Smart Travels with Rudy Maxa. He's pretty good. Not as perky as Samantha Brown (but who is), but has more energy than Rick Steves

Oct 31 HDNET 6:30 AM EST Smart Travels Europe
Stockholm, Sweden
Nov 1 HDNET 6:30 AM EST Smart Travels Europe
Oslo, Norway
Nov 5 HDNET 6:30 EST Smart Travels Europe
London (the episode contains 4 cities

Lisa

PS I posted a new section on my web page that will list upcoming travel shows www.magicalbalticruise.com
P.S.2 If you don't have HDNET this series is played intermittently on PBS, so I would "check your local listings"

Wow! Another 070707 family:cool1: Does this mean that Monstro will be joining us as well? It's going to be a lot of fun seeing how much the kids have grown in three years!

Welcome!

Happy Belated Anniversary Denise!! :goodvibes

DW2DH&DS, good luck with the penpal. Wish we could help but NY isn't a foreign country yet ;) We have a Webelos scout, DH is the leader and I'm the Pack committee chair. We're up to our eyeballs in scout stuff  The boys are supposed to be doing a good turn project today outside but it's threatening to rain.....wish mother nature would decide what to do so I know if I have to cancel or not!

Bad week to talk about saving money! We had 4 fundraisers for PTA & scouts in 3 days....I'm broke! In general we're pretty good at saving, especially when we have a goal like this cruise!
