July 4, 2003 at HH - help needed!

Do the 4th of July activities go on all week, or are they pretty much limited to the 4th? With the 4th falling on a Friday next summer, I'm not sure what to do on that day. If we stick with the Sun - Thur plan and leave on Friday, what will we miss? We only own 100 points at HH, making a 66 point Friday night stay seem silly. We do have some banked points, and will also be borrowing a bit from 2004, even without the Fri night stay. Even though there are only 4 of us, we really like the 2 BR set up, and prefer it over having our boys sleep in the sofa bed each night. Our options for the 4th would be:

1. 2 BR Sun - Thur, leave on the 4th

2. 2 BR Sun - Fri, borrowing most of 2004 points

3. 2 BR Sun - Thur on points, 2 BR Fri on cash

4. 2 BR Sun - Thur, studio on points for Fri

What would you do, especially if you've been to HH on the 4th? Are the festivities there really worth staying that extra night? The 11 month window is quickly approaching, and I don't know what to do!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There will be a parade for the children, a barbeque and, of course, the fireworks after dark. There are also many family activites planned at the beach house and the slide reopens at 8pm at the resort pool.

They will still likely have the regular Tuesday fireworks. They did that this year and we got to enjoy the display twice.

Last year they did not have the Tuesday show- only one on the 4th.

You are still entitled to all activities and use of the resort after check-out @ 11:00. I think you should be able to check into another hotel/motel for the night, save the points, and enjoy the activities.

DownNeckBoy is correct. If you check out on Friday at 11:00am, your card will still open the gate until midnight. You are still entitled to use the property and do all the activities until midnight.

You can then spend the night off sight and leave the next day.

We did this for Easter this year. We tried to stay an extra day but would have check out of our current room at 11:00 and checked back in at 4:00pm just for one night. So we got a room at the Marriott and spent the day at the Beach House and went to B'lou's Magic Show. The front desk confirmed that we could use the facilities until midnight.

Besides the Marriott was 89.00 compared to 274.00. There were no discounts for the Holiday Weekend.

I wouldn't stay Friday on points in the summer, unless I had points to burn. If it were me, I would stay Sun-Thurs for 165pts and try to snag one of the elusive DVC 25% cash discount rooms at the 11 month window. If you book a cash room through DVC, you don't have to pay for it now like you through CRO. Also, the DC has 20% discounted cash rooms at HH during different times of the year. Good Luck.

Thanks for your responses. I think we will definitely stay somewhere on HH for the 4th. I've ruled out spending 66 points for a 2 BR, though I'm not opposed to moving to a studio on points or cash just to stay at the resort. A nearby hotel might work out as well.

Johnnie- If we book a cash room through CRO, do we just pay when we arrive at the resort, or does the balance at some point need to be paid off ahead of time?

Fenceman-How close is the Marriott? Any other recommendations for a nearby hotel? I wouldn't want to end up on the other side of the island!
