We are going to MK on the 3rd and Epcot on the 4th. We have a FP for Illuminations, but what time should we get a spot in MK in the Hub? I had been hoping they would have a dessert party, but still nothing, so going to Plan B. There will be 6 of us and MIL uses an ECV. We know we will have to stake out a spot early and are ok with that. I was thinking if they aren't having a dessert party, going into one of the former FP spots would be ideal or maybe getting a table just outside the ice cream shop would be nice as well. Thanks!

Between 4 and 6 everyone will start to filter into MK for the fireworks. At anytime during that window they will stop letting you into the hub because it's full so don't linger around and keep checking the hub.. July 4th will be earlier times.

basically if your trying to get to the hub and they are telling you to walk the long way to tomorrowland around the back, you probably waited too long to get into it.

There is no sneak it nearby in spot, people are going to come for nothing other than the fireworks and wait many hours never leaving the hub for them.

We are ok waiting for them. Our plan is to be there at rope drop and be there all day. We have breakfast and lunch reservations and FP for rides in the afternoon, but if we can't make the FP, then that's ok with us. Our main goal is the fireworks. So we need to be in our spot by about 3?

For a general, good spot I would say more about 5. around 4 disney switches to add in some djs around the place and the background music changes. That's generally my queue to start getting eyes on the hub and generally by 5 I'm in the hub.. It feels a little early but before you know it, the hub will be full and while upset you went too early at first, you'll be happy when it suddenly is full and you wouldn't get in anymore.

back of the castle if that viewing location is your thing, I would say get there about 60-90 minutes early.. They do mark off and a crowd will form there as well. It's one of the few nights where back of he castle will not be empty right before they start and you want to be early.

I was in the MK on July 3rd last year, and I got a spot on Main Street just a little bit in front of Casey's, but not all the way to the Partner Statue. I got my spot 3 hours in advance, and there was only one other person putting up a camera. People around me didn't start finding a spot until 2 hours before. It might be different with the closer you get to the castle. I personally like to stand that far back so I can see the fireworks. I always feel the closer you are to the castle, the less you see.

I'll share a random "fun" story that happened to me that night...I got stung by a bee on my hand about 25 minutes before the show. Lets just say that was the fastest first aid visit, so I can get back to my spot and film. So, always be careful of those pesky little creatures. :D

Thanks for the replies. We really want to be in the Hub as these fireworks are the main reason for this trip. I just don't want to wait till it's starting to get crowded and gets too difficult for MIL to manage her ECV through the crowd. After fireworks, I know it will be crazy with the crowds exiting, so we are just going to stay put and wait.
