OMG! These are great! I  the balloons - did you know who was responsbile for that? I think I was still asleep when it came in.

I remember Pt Fermin - my dad used to take us there every other Sunday when we were little. We lived in Compton at the time. It was free and a way to take 6 kids and get out of the house. Course - he'd scare me half to death pretending to drive over the edge. I hate getting close to an edge to this day because of that. :sad2:

OH MJ! Thank you for sharing. Who'd of thunk that 2 yrs later - I finally get to see the Magic sail in to the West Coast for the first time? ::yes::
Did you ever go over those drawbridges in Long Beach? They are part of the Terminal Freeway. I used to hide on the floor of the car when we drove over them, & I think I was 8 or 9 at the time!

There is a lookout area on the south side of Pt. Fermin - from there you can see down Long Beach - it's cool to go there now & then. Do you know where Marineland used to be? Near Pt. Vicente (other side of PV) - that's where they filmed part of Pirates of the Caribbean. I have pics of the Black Pearl when it was at San Pedro, and when it was at Redondo Beach - that was :cool2: .

Hey, maybe we can greet the Magic when it comes into port next year, too. :goodvibes I don't know who was in charge of the balloons. That was the first time I met winotracy. :)

We went to Yosemite for the weekend that year in June. The waterfalls were unbelieveable. Also, the bridge at the foot of Yosemite Falls had portions washed out, and we could see the picnic benches at Upper & Lower River campgrounds stuck up in the trees where the river had dropped them. The area below Yosemite Falls was so fragrant because of the cedar trees that had been pulverized when going over the falls. The power of nature.

Yess- I still shudder to think how my father used to  to torment us. Yes - I remember Marineland. So sad when it closed. :sad1:

I wonder if DD knows that POC was filmed here? Naw - better not tell her but if you feel like sharing those pics - I'll send her a link. She's a POC addict.

I can't meet the Magic but you can come see me get in if you want! :teeth:

OK I think I have time to post something I saw last night. Be back in a few

Wait - is this the one coming in WB? Or EB in August - I'm getting my posts mixed up?
I think Andrew was EB. I have pics from both coming & going. The ones in this thread are early in the morning & overcast skies when the ship came in. The link takes you to a post where the ship was leaving in the afternoon - nice bright sun. :sunny:

OK ALL - here's a poem I saw and just had to buy from Knott's Berry Farm yesterday.

A Family Of Friends

You'll find there's a family
of friends living here,
A small group of minds,
and of hearts;
With some of us clever
and some of us not,

At times you can't tell us apart.
There's one who is cranky and
one who is shy,
And one who is really uncouth;
And just when you think
you've discovered who's who,
You'll really uncover the truth.

The truth that we're
all just a little of each,
A group of imperfects are we.
And sometimes I might
criticize them to you,
But, don't ever knock them to me.

'Cause the one thing
that ties us together for life
No matter how far we're apart,
Is love for each other,
a family of friends,
A small group of minds,
and of hearts.

Okay, here are pics of the Black Pearl.

Here it is in Redondo Beach. They would sail it to the cove where Marineland used to be, and then sail back to Redondo Beach. People say that the stars, especially Johnny Depp, were very generous with signatures for the fans.

I had gone to Redondo Beach, and then when I saw the BP I called Kelly at home & asked her if she wanted to see it. She jumped. So here she is taking a pic of it.

This is what I had posted earlier about the Black Pearl when it was in San Pedro:

I heard the Black Pearl was in town, so my ds, Nick, & I went to go check it out. (Thanks for the tip, minnietoo)

We took these from above Cabrillo Beach

We decided to see if we could actually get close to the Black Pearl, and after driving to a couple of marinas, finally found it, but this is the closest we could get to it.

Afterwards we took a couple more shots from the Cabrillo Marina area.

Here are some shots we took while driving around.

Cabrillo Beach with the Black Pearl in the distance (to the left in the far distance is the dome where they used to have the Spruce Goose & to the left of that is the Queen Mary, Long Beach. Long Beach is really close to San Pedro.

Cabrillo beach and the breakwater that keeps the waves from the Los Angeles Harbor in San Pedro.

This is the coastline off of the Palos Verdes Peninsula looking towards Point Fermin & the LA Harbor beyond. (You can't see it from here, but Trump's golf course is there, too - anyone who saw the first year of the Apprentice might remember that the winner had the choice of working on this golf course or a building back east).

This is looking towards Point Vicente & Catalina Island in the background. Down below is the former site of Marineland (you can still see the giant white water spouts that marked the entrance to the drive there if you look very closely right behind the spanish tiled rooftops). There used to be a statue of Bubbles the whale there, too. I heard that the set for the fort was down there, so we droved down where the empty lot is. At the end is a drive that goes down to the shore, but there was a no trespassing sign, so we didn't drive down it. I didn't want to get into trouble. We did see some fresh palm trees on the ground, though. hmmmm

It is a really beautiful day here today, in the high 70's by the beach. I love Southern California :sunny:

This is really touching :goodvibes

I'm pretty pathetic - here I am in bed, lights out - everyone is asleep and here I am - typing away. I just had to see for myself this monumentous moment. OK that or DH's snoring is keeping me awake. The former just sounds so much more exciting! :lmao:

:wave2: MJ - are we taking bets in who swoops in and takes it?

Andrew? 2 to 1 odds?

DisneyNutinLondon: 3 to 1

or how about Helen? With her impeccable timing? :lmao:

P.S. - loved the pictures of the Black Pearl. Sent them to DD in an email. She came home late so didn't get it she will tomorrow. :) Thanks! :thumbsup2

hhhmmmm....came on to check something out but for the life of me can't remember what that was? I do know that it didn't have to do with this thread? :confused3 oh well, couldn't have been much of importance since I can't remember. :confused3

:::sigh:::: I do think the Brits are going to take it this round. They're letting us rack up the post count & one of them will swoop in :p .

Personally, I think Helen has rigged up the 'puter so that when it comes within 10 posts her alarm goes off.

Then we have the "unassuming" Anna, who just seems to "happen" upon these posts just at the right time... and don't leave off JoAnn (the Provider) and Harole Ann - they have an instinct for these things.

I'm afraid I won't be able to hang, as I've been up since before 5am, and it's already almost 2am. Dark circles are becoming quite the look for as of late (darn it).

know what you mean - DH has stopped making noise for a while so I may try and get to deep slumber pretty soon myself.
