Just dropping in quick as I'm still working on my observation lesson. Just to give you a heads up.

I have just ordered my metro travel cards. It is a pass that you can use on metro or bus for unlimited travel. I got the 4 nights for 17 .5 Euros.
(It was 3 euro certified delivery)

The website says it takes 10 working days for delivery in EU countries and 15 working days for all other countries. Therefore if you are in the states and considering them I would order them soon !

Thanks - I might do that - need to do some research. We'll be in Barcelona on Tuesday - want to do the usual touristy stuff. Is the metro/bus system pretty easy there? Anyone know? We've done San Fran, New York, Chicago.

I don't think I'm going to get the metro pass. We arrive Thurs Am and will check into our hotel and maybe get the lay of the land. On Fri, we going to go to Monserrat. In the evening we'll be at the fountain and then we board on Sat. Unless it pays to get the metro pass. Is it per day or just a certain number of trips on a pass?

I won't tell. I go back far enough so I remember when "hacker" was a compliment rather than a criminal activity. The BBS's I was involved in were very much like these boards - much more virtual communities than the (more common) pirate software sites. Curiously enough, the Internet wiped most of them out which was a loss - because BBS systems, being dial in, tended to attract mostly local people. So the virtual communities often became real communities because people could and did meet up. With the Internet, people were so spread apart that the ability to meet in person was lost.

This board is in a very real way a return to the old BBS days - because the online community is expected to turn into a real one. It changes the dynamic that is found on many online forums, because knowing you're going to be meeting and "living" with the people on the board tends to eliminate the "flaming" that happens elsewhere - there is no expectation of anonymity, so we behave as a real community.

I agree, when we first got an ISP, I saw some of the old sites because a lot of them were still very text based. It wasn't until around 94 and 95 that graphical sites started hitting big, and even then there wasn't a google, or anything around to search with. Then is just suddenly exploded and all those little sites died.

I do like the board here a lot because it feels like writing little notes to family members. It's like sending IM's to your friends and meeting up on the weekend for tea.

OK - Sadly i have been away from my desk for a while, and during that time you guys have gone nuts. We are over 9,000 posts already. I hope I don't have a ton of fluff to read. Although I suspect there is a lot more TP humor out there.

I shall try to catch up while I wait for traffic to go away.

I've never been on 2, but here's what I've read/heard so far:

• There can be noise - specifically low bass noise coming in from the clubs above. Comments on the noise is very mixed - some people are annoyed by it. Others don't notice it. Personally, I suspect I'll find any such noise muted and relaxing, so it's more likely to help me sleep than keep me awake. Be aware that that kind of low frequency noise is the kind that noice cancelling headsets can do a great job with.
• Deck 2 is great for getting off the ship - especially on this trip where it sounds like all the ports will be accessed via deck 1.
• Deck 2 is great for elevators. Since you're near the end, you rarely have to worry about the elevator already being full when it finally arrives.

So, I figure in terms of normal movement, I'll likely use stairs for deck 3/4/5 (very easy access). Use elevator up to 9. Walk down in either case.

I will be the one with the printout of names walking around - and staring at your name badge because I forgot who you were. Even though I just looked 3 seconds ago.

I just wondered - what books are you taking with you?

I am not sure on this - I am getting the 7th Harry Potter and I will try and keep it for the cruise, but I might be tempted to read beforehand

We are definately taking HP7. We will most likely be bringing the audio edition with us, and hope to pick up the adult print edition in England. Although, I fear that they wont be selling it at the airport, so I will have to order and have it shipped.

Of course, I will have read it within 24 hours of getting it, so it will only be something to pass the time on the 9 hour flight.

Andrew- it's Jimmy.... Did you notice my receding hairline? I had a full head of hair before I married Sallie.... I don't think you have anything to worry about- you will only be with her for 11 straight days, but ,just as precaution- I can give you the names of some products that will help stop hair loss if you notice anything by the third day. Unfortunately- they didn't work for me.

Maybe that's what my husband's problem is? Nah - I think it's kids.

Shirt design update - I employed my coworker to try to shape the tags into a mickey shape. We came up with a better t-shirt design. As soon as I have all the tags updated (tag fairy has been super busy) I will share. And I think I have a place in town that can make them for us. I just might have to carry on a duffel bag.
