"I have wandered all my life, and I have also traveled: the difference between the two is that we wander for distraction but we travel for fulfillment."
--Hilaire Belloc

I disagree with this one, in that wandering in a new environment allows one to find the flavor of a place that you might not if you only travel to the established places, but it is an interesting distinction.

:faint: I'm back but just barely. The dog show is finally over, but I need to get all the paperwork sent in tommorrow. So alot of sorting and fixing ahead of me still. Went to a doggie seminar on jumping. Very good.

Someone will need to update me on whats been going on while i was gone.

In the meantime:

The lanyards have arrived! OMG, the box weighed 10 lbs! The lanyards look great:thumbsup2

Yipee!!!! I cant wait to see them... You are the best!:thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

Almost forgot ...

Good news! Our passports arrived Monday. I couldn't help but laugh to see that they had been shipped FedEx priority for Saturday delivery. But we weren't home. I guess "When it absolutely, positively must get there" the State Department doesn't trust their own USPS.

Four packages. I wonder how many tax dollars that cost us?

Great news Brian !!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Quite here tonight, I am off to bed, C.U. all Tomorrow night.

And I go to bed on

Lisa Im thinking about you

Ok - I took the luggage down yesterday, and I opened each bag this morning- I stared at the beautiful empty space just waiting to be filled with many clothes I will probably never wear, many "just in case" toiletries and medications I will hopefully not use, and hundreds of miscellaneous items that will take me hours to pack................ then I shut them!!!!!!

this is one of those times I wish I were rich.........then my housekeeper and personal secretary could do it!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's about 3 weeks to go, that doesn't seem like a lot, does it?:)

Yes, our sailing date is quickly approaching......If you haven't firmed up your plans in Olbia, Sardinia please do consider joining us for a cave snorkeling excursion. The original thread was posted on 6-07-2007 at 2:26pm. (Do a site search on "Olbia.") We have six people so far and are looking to reach a minimum of 10 as requested by the tour agency. The original thread has the details about the tour. We will be picked up from the cruise ship and brought back in plenty of time for the port departure.

How often will you have the opportunity to snorkel in a cave in Italy?? No swimming experience is necessary -- the buoyancy vests will keep you afloat. Check it out -- thanks!

Harole Ann, - I was just lying in bed thinking of the you in the USA and was wondering how Princess Jasmine would be coping with all the fireworks.

I appreciate how you feel. Our dogs hate fireworks too - well if you think their hearing is 50x better than ours and I jump when a banger goes off.

The main celebration when we have fireworks is Bon fire night (Nov 5th) although people tend to set them off earlier and earlier. This year it we had fireworks around us everynight for 3 weeks.

Our Old dog Sally (14) was sadly very affected. She would sit in the house and shake. She then preceeded to spend a month walking into tight corners and spaces. Strangely and bumpin into things constantly. Our vet was worried that she was not gettting enough Oxygen to her brain -but after tests we all put it down to the fireworks. It took just over a 2 months for her to settle and get back to normal.

One thing that helped -and might help you is a DAP plugin.
Have you heard of them - DAP stands for dog appeasing pheramone (SP)

Basically it looks like a airfreshener that you plug in. However the scent is not perfumed -infact humans cannot smell it- When a b has puppys she releases a scent that comforts and soothes the puppys - that is what is in the DAP.

It really helped our dogs -Im sure you'll be able to get them in the states.

I was able to buy this for my cats and it really does work (here is a site for dogs) -

I plug it into an outlet like an air freshener and replace it about every 45 days. Good suggestion, Helen!

I know, Sallile. I started to put clothes together that I will not wear between now and the trip. It is an insane amount of clothing!!!! DH said not to worry because my clothes are not too big, but I hate overpacking. What really has me crazy is the covering of shoulders and knees. Normally I would just wear no sleeve tops and shorts during the day, capris at night, but now I have to take more capris and short sleeved shirts - ughhhhhhhhh. Plus, with the heat, that means changing for dinner - don't want to wear the same clothes all day (phew). I know doing wash will be difficult, I might just send it out and pay the fee. So........... - now I am working on downsizing.

Here's my thoughts:
2 nights before cruise
11 nights of dinner for the ship
13 - total dinner clothes
-3 nights of formal/semi formal clothes- 1 long skirt -2 tops 1 short skirt
10 nicer shirts for dinner- I am reusing capris and skirts below
4 capris
3 skirts
14 shirts for daytime - no room for spillage!
5 shorts

Plus I am sticking with certain colors so I can mix and match.
What am I doing wrong?

A Tale of Two Prawns

Far away in the tropical waters of the Caribbean, two prawns were
swimming around in the sea, one called Justin and the other called
Christian. The prawns were constantly being harassed and threatened by
sharks that inhabited the area.

Finally one day Justin said to Christian, "I'm fed up with being a
prawn; I wish I was a shark, and then I wouldn't have any worries
about being eaten."

A large mysterious cod appeared and said, "Your wish is granted." Lo
and behold, Justin turned into a shark. Horrified, Christian
immediately swam away, afraid of being eaten by his old mate.

Time passed (as it invariably does) and Justin found life as a shark
boring and lonely All his old mates
simply swam away whenever he came close to them. Justin didn't realize
that his new menacing appearance was the cause of his sad plight.

While swimming alone one day he saw the mysterious cod again and he
thought perhaps the mysterious fish could change him back into a
prawn. He approached the cod and begged to be changed back, and, lo
and behold, he found himself turned back into a prawn.

With tears of joy in his tiny little eyes Justin swam back to his
friends and bought them all a cocktail (the punch line does not
involve a prawn cocktail - it's much worse). Looking around the
gathering at the reef he realized he couldn't see his old pal.

"Where's Christian?" he asked.
"He's at home, still distraught that his best friend changed sides to
the enemy & became a shark," came the reply.

Eager to put things right again and end the mutual pain and torture,
He set off to Christian's abode. As he opened the coral gate, memories
came flooding back. He banged on the door and shouted: "It's me,
Justin, your old friend, come out and see me again."

Christian replied, "No way man, you'll eat me. You're now a shark, the
enemy, and I'll not be tricked into being your dinner."

Justin cried back "No, I'm not. That was the old me. I've changed........."

(You're going to love this.....)

Maryann, I'm afraid that if I tell you how few clothes I am taking for 5 weeks in Europe, you will think I'm a total nutcase! But I hate to overpack, so here goes:

Note: almost everything can be mixed around with everything else

One formal dress
One pair velvet pants for dinner
two nice sweater/shirts for dinner
Three skirts (covering knees)
Three capris
2 short skirts for ship
6 shirts
1 lightweight cardigan
2 pairs sandals, 1 pair flip flops
swimming suit, nightgown, underwear, toiletries

That's actually much more than I would pack if I didn't have to deal with formal and semi-formal nights on the ship . . .

You guys are amazing planners!! I'm not ready to start the big decisions yet!

For anyone planning on seeing a lot of art, particularly in Rome and Florence, there is a great book I could recommend. It is actually for children, although it is aimed at older children and all the information is perfectly good for adults. It is "Renaissance," by DK Eyewitness Books, and has terrific pictures and information. The list price is $15.99 in the US, but you also might find it at a library.

Congrats Andrew!!!

You've left most of us in the dust with your prolific prose and wit!
