July 2014 Trip - Rent a car or rely on shuttles?

Hi all!! Wow, I haven't been on in awhile. Booked a trip with 6 women in my family and we are flying into orlando in July 2014. We are staying at the Hilton grand Vacation @ Seaworld. We are going to downtown disney two nights and universal parks the other days. Wanted to see opinions on here about whether it's worth it to rent a car or just take shuttle from hotel? If the car, what's the best rental? Any help would be appreciated!!! Errika

Does your hotel near Seaworld have a shuttle to DTD? If it does do you know the schedule and does it fit your plans. Most people report that their off site shuttles where not all that convenient and either end up renting a car or taking a lot of taxis.

As for renting a car, are you 6 or 7 total. Either way you going to need a van or full size SUV.

Hi Errika!

Personally, I would never rely on hotel shuttle to get me anywhere. I rent a car even when we stay on site. If you join us on the July thread you can hopefully find a great deal. With a large group of adults, you might find that renting 2 cars will be more convenient. And splitting between so many people will keep cost down.
Keep in mind that prices are way high and will come down closer to July.
