7/16: $7 blueberry picking, $32 Children's Place, $50 photos, $35 Christmas Tree Shop
Ooooh! I like to shop at the Christmas Tree Shop! Luckily, nothing like it around here. :upsidedow
We went to a wedding yesterday and met Phineas and Ferb at the mall. It was a kinda crazy day. But my sister and her bf babysat my kids for free for six hours. The fruit was to thank them. They are the best!
7/17: $10 JoAnne's, $12 Walmart, $29 dinner (all good streaks must come to an end sometime!)
Was the fruit the one on special? It looks soooo good. (Again, lucky for me, we don't have an Incredible Edible near me. :cool2: ) At first I read that Phineas and Ferb were at the wedding. ;) Oh! And WHAT a streak of no dinner outs it has been for you! :thumbsup2
I am back from our weekend away. I do not count the money we spend into our regular monthly budget since we put money aside during the year for our two weekend trips up there. Although we did not spend to much. We hit a new farmer's market and I got a few little things but only spent $10 on souvenirs.
Well done! :hippie: I have a few different budgets that I save for/spend and don't count, too.

Not sure how I did it, but yesterday was a $0 for me. :woohoo: Betting DH will buy gas....or something.....today! I think that I will stay in the air-conditioned house. It was 28º with a humidex of 33º before 7:00 this morning! :scared1: Thinking it is going to be HOT!!!

Unfortunately, this is going to be an expensive month for me.
  1. DD will be home (I think) from Egypt for the last week or two.
  2. I'm off for the summer, and my sanity is sending DH (SAHD) out to shop
  3. Need to get the garage door replaced.
  4. House needs repairs: painting, carpet, blinds etc.
  5. Changing classrooms means updating some things.
  6. I'm going 'over the river' to a Daily Café workshop with "The Sisters" :goodvibes

 What is a bobble bottle is it like a water filter bottle? Where did you stay at Niagara Falls and did you have a view of the Falls We are booked into the Embassy suites. Any advice you could give me on Niagara falls would be greatly appreciated :thanks:

Lots of golden 0$ for you!

I may be doing good on the no-buy days, but if you notice the days I do spend, I spend A LOT. :headache: Oh well, I knew July would be expensive.

Any advice you could give me on Niagara falls would be greatly appreciated :thanks:

I know this wasn't directed at me, but we spent 2 days in Niagara Falls last summer. We stayed at Sheraton-on-the-falls and had a nice view of... the lobby of the conference rooms. :headache: Probably the worst view of the entire hotel, but we didn't care because we barely spent any time in the room. The beds, however, were heavenly. :cloud9: With our package we had access to the indoor waterpark, small but fun.

In that hotel there was a big arcade/mini rides section, which we got coupons for with our package. Really not worth it, unless you get it for free. However, we loved all the little attractions on Clifton Hills. Granted, they were cheesy and totally not Disney quality, but fun nonetheless.

The big ferris wheels offers a spectacular view of the falls. At night, at elast on some nights, they have fireworks over the falls. Pretty cool, especially since they have the water of the falls change colors. Maid of the Mist is not to be missed, but expect to get wet. ;) The thing where you take an elevator to the bottom of the falls and can view the "backside of water" is cool too, but I don't think you need to do both that and Maid of the Mist. Just pick one.

Hope this helps!

:thanks: We will miss the fireworks we are there on a night they are not on but will see the falls lit up unless they have changed the calender. I have booked a very pricey package at the Embassy suited that includes a magic show and a couple of other things and a room view of both falls. But i have been wondering whether or not it is worth doing all the things relating to the falls we will definitely do the Maid of the Mist.

Debbie, you mentioned that you would not have a no buy today because your husband needs gas. I don't track DH's spending- its hard enough to track my own. How does everyone else handle DH's spending? Do you count it? Just curious.

You can all use me this month as an example of how NOT to save money. :-) Saw Harry Potter yesterday, which was fine, but the Cracker Barrell dinner was not necessary, and the result of poor planning on my part.

Debbie, you mentioned that you would not have a no buy today because your husband needs gas. I don't track DH's spending- its hard enough to track my own. How does everyone else handle DH's spending? Do you count it? Just curious.

DH throws all his receipts into a basket on top of our dressier. I include it in what we spent but don't try to keep track of it day by day.

I TRY not to analyze it as "stupid spend/goodspend." He likes to buy food for that day so often buys groceries that I could have gotten cheaper on sale or with a coupon. But, I try to just write it down without rolling my eyes or making a comment.

I'm giving up for the month. Even my fuzzy goal of "don't buy stupid stuff" has gotten too tricky for me.

For 10 years DH has worked out of our home and commuted to an office on gorgeous Lake Geneva,Wisconsin. He is taking a new job Aug 1.

This weekend we went together and said goodbye to the lake and the city. We ate breakfast at our favorite spot, had our favorite muffins from the bakery etc. It was an unexpected mini vacation. (I'm gonna add grocery and entertainment categories together and just try to keep under that number). I

New job will require suits or sports coats. No way we can move from home office wear to that standard on the $100/month we allow for clothing. It will be "shop for good quality and good prices and put it on the charge card."

Parents are staying 5 days for Dad to have eye surgery next week.

I'll keep reading to keep inspired.

I track my hubby's spending, but he's so responsible. He just tells me what he spent, and because we charge almost everything and have joint accounts, it's not too hard. We have been together for a long time now, got married in our early 20s, and he learned a lot about shopping from me then. Our dates in college always ended at the food store with my coupons and tiny food budget (I was soooo broke back then.) He might even be better than me now, even in the grocery store.

I don't track gas. We try to combine errands/trips, and can see how much we spent on the credit card. But, we have to get to certain places at certain times.

Good luck with the job change, Annsteere. It's good to take a break every now and then.

We have only one vehicle, so if DH is buying gas it's for both of us, and we have been chauffeuring around our oldest who lost his license :( , and found a job

but needs rides to/from every day. Good thing I'm on summer vacation. Cracker Barrel is one of my favourite places to stop if I go over the river. Sigh.

Ann, good luck with the change in jobs to your DH. I don't call any of your spending "stupid stuff". I hope you keep us posted on how things go, even if you aren't tracking! :)

Our gas is one area that I have worked with DH to improve. Yesterday, he drove DS around. I helped them plan their route to minimize backtracking. I'm a firm believer in doing things in one trip! :hippie:

Does anyone know the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area? I'm going to a conference there next week, (staying at Eagle Crest Resort) and wondered if anyone knows of shopping/dining nearby.

I include everything for DH in our budget and what he spends not that he spends much anyway as there is no where to spend on his way to work from home:rotfl: but fuel etc

I don't track DH's spending because he doesn't really spend any money from the household $$. He has a company vehicle so they pay for gas. And he usually brings his coffee in the AM and packs drinks and lunch. He's much more responsible then I am. :rolleyes1. But, he and DD are going to see Harry Potter tonight. So, that will be added. My rule is usually if I spend it or we spend it together then it gets added.

How does everyone else handle DH's spending? Do you count it? Just curious.

I include it, because it's all coming out of the same shared budget. The spending I post is all of our out the door spending for the month. I do not include the regular household bills.

I waffle back and forth between including or not including doctor co-pays and prescriptions, but lately I've been including those too.

I think you are doing well sticking to the "no stupid stuff" goal. Having that goal is requiring you to think about the value of what you are spending money on. I would say that even your unexpected mini-vacation to say "goodbye" to Lake Geneva was worth the cost. You are closing a decade-long chapter in your lives and it's important to acknowledge that.

I also think that the clothes for the new job are "not stupid stuff" - in fact, I think that is one of the handful of occasions that I think are valid for putting more on a credit card than you can pay off in the month. It's a legitimate need for a job requirement.

I can see why you don't want to post all of that spending on here, however!

I hope your Dad's eye surgery goes well, and good luck with the job changes!

Congrats on your husband's new job Annsteere.

Debbie, you mentioned that you would not have a no buy today because your husband needs gas. I don't track DH's spending- its hard enough to track my own. How does everyone else handle DH's spending? Do you count it? Just curious.

I don't count at all what my husband spends, because for me personally the goal of this thread is to track MY spending and to see how I can improve. If it were about doing a strict family budget, then I would, but I'm not at that point in my life yet. We have only been married 2 months, and I don't want to drive myself crazy trying to keep up with his spending because I know I would somehow try to control it. So for me it's best jsut to ignore it.
