July 2, 2005 - WE ARE THERE!!!

Ron........................don't you mean the May 27th???????? 'Cause that is the one that Fran and Dave are on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rolleyes1 $150.00 round trip, hmmmmmmmmmm........ :scratchin How can I convince Dave that we need to spend $300.00 on airfare??????????

Jill.......Dave took pictures that we took, and that other DIS people sent, and made a "mini slide show" to music. It is about 8 minutes long, and I personally think it is his best one!

Wendy....We have your address. (don't worry about the disc!) We also have Ron, Jim's and Sherry's. Anyone else want one???????

It is 10:00 here, and we're back at work on the tile. And yes, Dave was right........Thusday night, I did come up with the crazy idea to repaint the house, since we emptied the rooms and pulled up the carpet. And, while standing in Home Depot.....I decided to paint the wall that the sofa sits against a dark chocolate brown. SURPRISE, Dave! :love2:

Fran

Sounds like something that Vickie would do. And as it relates to paint and Home Depot, Vickie has to stop by the "Ooooops" paint area every time we go, which is every Saturday, to see if there is any paint that she might want to use for any project that we have going...which we have a lot going at this time. Wow, that was a huge run-on sentence!

BTW, for those that did not know, if you have Loews discount coupons, Home Depot will accept those to keep the business.

Good info to know!!!!!!

Dave is doing the "#@*&%$^" cuts, at this point. We have a curved niche as you enter the dining room area.................not a fun thing to cut tile around.

Hi everyone. Sorry for the delayed response to a few questions.

Anna - Thanks for the nice comments on Monica's "rocks". She appreciates it. Her birthday is next month so maybe I will surprise her with something new. Monica and I seem to have similar taste in jewelry (big and shiny).

Sherry - Sassi is fun, but we are happy to meet anywhere. Let us know what works best for everyone in the Arizona area and we will find a place that is o.k. for all. As for Mickey, he sleeps during the day and comes awake around 7:00 PM. We have a giant ball that he runs around in and chases Tinkerbell around the floor. She loves him already and runs to the cage to give him "kisses". In reality, my guess is that without the wire cage in between the two, Mickey would end up as a chinchilla coat for Tinkerbell. I would say Mickey is like a cross between a gerbil and a rabbit. They are fun to hold and like to explore things but not overly smart.

Fran - Hope that tile is going well. Mickey loves to take his "dust bath". He has a seperate house filled with dust. He goes into once or twice a day and rolls around like some crazy animal and then comes out looking like he is covered with ash from a volcano.

Ron - Dreams Unlimited has been the worst company to deal with so far. No phone number listed anywhere. I tried to send them a request, but the online submission is too restrictive to address what I am looking for. I wrote a detailed email and after a week and a half, I received some bland form letter telling me to use their online form submission. I did so and still nothing. I will give my money to someone who practices customer service and has a phone #.

Sue - for photos, you have to use a hosting site (I use photobucket). To get to the site, just add the "dot com" to the end of it. It is free and you can upload your photos to the service. You then copy and past the link and use the photo icon on the "reply to thread" portion of the website and you have a picture!

Hope everyone is well, we are headed out for Sushi now. Have a great evening.

David (or Dave)

Dave,
Mickey and Tinkerbell are too cute. I don't think we officially met while on the cruise, but I just wanted to say that I love your "family". Please tell Monica that the rings are absolutely beautiful. My wish is a three diamond ring positioned in the shape of Mickey Mouses Head. I know it sounds corny, but I have had this idea for years now and these darn kids of mine keep going to college, and for some reason there is never much money left after that!!!

Sherry,
How is the heat in AZ? On the news today it said something about 10 days straight of over 100 degree weather for you. It was 103 here today, which is pretty hot for Illinois.(remember when I was complaining about the cold spring) now all I dream for is a little rain. It is very dry in this part of Illinois...

Fran,
So how is the tiling going? Just remember it will look great when it is all done.
Thank heavans we had no curves, I think it might have put us over the edge.
The place we bought the tile from talked me into buying medalians for my floor. This meant a lot of the corners of tile had to be cut off. The look is great, but it did take some extra time and many more cuts...

I am very jealous of those of you planning another cruise. Our next cruise will not be for a long time. Our youngest son is going to apply to the University of Hawaii, so for the next few years our vacation time will probably be spent getting him back to school... it could be worse, right? At least it is Hawaii!!!!!
But, it still isn't Disney.

Have a great week everyone,
Angie

We are done for the night. Funny how Fran failed to tell you that Thursday night as we were going to sleep she decided that since all the carpet was pulled up that we should paint. I said your right but I am begining to lay tile on Saturday and I have to work on Friday! She went Friday morning to buy the paint and yes we painted our house Friday night.

After painting I started working on the DIS video. I got up at 6:30 this morning and finished it.

I have only heard from 3 people so if you want a copy, please PM me or Fran with your address. I have plenty of copies burned so I should be able to mail out pretty quick. Have a great night!

Dave

Dave and Fran - When We first Moved in our house the people did not like to paint so they pretty much paneled the house with small exceptions. I told Ron We could not move into our bedroom until the wall were redone. So We moved in and Tore out the paneling only to find out that they had put the glue on in giant x's and had painted black stripes were the seams were. Also since they had built the house they had not finished the walls under the paneling. After Three nights on the hide away couch we were not happ we had to texture and paint.

When we replaced the carpet in the living room we had the bright idea to paint the still paneled walls before the carpet installer could come. :rotfl2:

I will email you my address for a copy of the Slide Show

Sherry We took Friday off and went to San Fran to Debbie Reynolds Live.
It was a charity event that is put on once a year with different movie stars

First we went to check in at the Omni Hotel. Our room that they gave us wasn't quite ready so we got a different room. Then we went to Lunch at the Rotunda at Neiman Marcus. They made Raspberry Mojitos I was starting to feel like I was on a cruise. The food presentation was ausome. I was really thinking I was on a Cruise. I even ordered dessert. Then the bill Came. Oh Well.

Then we went to the Castro Theater for Debbie. We had VIP seats. First you go in and get your seats in the theater. Then you go upstairs for appetizers and Cocktails.( Salmon, Shrimp assorted Cheeses etc) Then you go down stairs and met Debbie and get your Photograph. She was very nice and she looks great.

After Pictures there is a live show/interview. She was great, very alive and animated. Nothing phased her. At the end the audience asked questions. She does great imitations. of the stars.

After that is the feature Movie. We saw the unsinkable Molly Brown.

After the movie we went back to our rooms. What a supprise. We had turn Down service with chocolates. In addition because of the mistake on our room there was a martini glass full of different chocolate truffles and an orchid, a bottle of wine and a hand written note of apology. I was very impressed.

Debbie will be in Vegas in November for a night club act.

Ron-Make us an Offer. Maybe you need a high quality moderately priced clinic in town. We will be in Vegas the weekend of the 17th of Sept. Let us know if you are free to get together.

Needalatte and Jgiants21 are you interested in the No Cal Meet so we can set a date. Anyone is welcome

Dave Here is a Picture of My Tinkerbell known as Tinker Too
It going to be a wild week :wave2:

Sue - your charity event sounds like it was wonderful. Debbie Reynolds looks great. You guys all have beatiful pets and your daughter looks just like you Sue.

Angie - was your luggage waiting for you at home when you got back? I hope you managed okay on the Magic.

For all you guys doing tile work - you are making me feel guilty and perhaps I shoult try painting a room here and there. I have been waiting for my dh to do this for a few years now - never seems to get around to it. My dd will be going away to cheerleading camp for a few days in August - her room MUST be done - keeping fingers crossed.

Will pass by cleaners again today with my receipt. Our two air conditioners both went same day, one in the am and one in the pm and it is so hot here. I read briefly that 14 people died in Arizona - were they all homeless?

Anna,
Actually my luggage was delivered to my room on Tuesday about 5:00 p.m. That was the day we were in PV. After we found it in LA on Sat. it was to late to get it to the ship, so the sweet people from Guest Relations took over and had the luggage flown to PV. They then picked it up at the airport at PV and delivered it to my stateroom! You can't ask for better service than that :flower: I was really happy to see it. We had become way to familiar with the laundry rooms on this cruise, up to this point.... :rotfl:
Good luck with the air conditioners, and try to stay cool...

We've been out of town for a couple of days. Went to Reno for Larry's cousin's wedding thinking we would escape the heat. WRONG! 100+ degrees in Reno--a record string of 9+ days over 100 there. The wedding was great, though.

As for the No Cal Meet, from the dates I've seen pop up on here, it looks like August 28 is the only one that will work for us. All of our Satudays are booked through August. Labor Day is good, but the weekend after that we are going camping (I believe).

Is anyone up for a November trip to DL? We've been looking at maybe going the week between Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving.

All this tiling/painting talk reminds me of when we first bought our house. We had seven days from when we got the keys until we had to be out of our old house. Day 1--Hour 1--we were in there ripping out carpet, painting all the walls, knocking out a wall. Larry stayed up all night finishing the drywall and texturing the day before the new carpets were going to be laid, and Wendy and I disturbed our new neighbors with our almost-until-midnight tiling endeavor that went on over several days. I can't believe the whine of the tile saw at 11:00 PM bothered him!! Aahh, good times!

Fran, Dave, I bet your house is looking great! There's nothing like a new coat of paint. Love chocolate brown--our master bedroom is three colors: chocolate brown, swiss mocha, and heavy cream (there's an unintentional coffee theme going on) Our fireplace surround has been at least four different colors--the latest is a deep shade of purple.

I'd love a copy of the DIS video. I'll PM my address.

Ron, Sue--Your night with Debbie Reynolds sounds like it was a lot of fun. She looks really good.

Angie--You will have great visits to Hawaii, I'm sure. We love it there. Everytime we visit (well, twice) I've tried to find a way to stay but it never works out. My SIL is making some kind of plans for us to go on a cruise in Hawaii for my in-laws 50th in 2010. Apparently we are paying for the in-laws to go, too, but all of this is rumor since SIL hasn't bothered to discuss any of this with us. The stubborn streak in me is rearing up and saying, no way are you volunteering us and our vacation time (and money) without even asking us if we want to. Plus, any cruise that isn't Disney isn't too exciting for me. Eric would be disappointed. But I'd love to go to Hawaii again. (Without the in-laws--did I just say that? I hope DH doesn't lurk around this site--I think I'd be in trouble for that one.)

Betsy,
I have never been to Hawaii, and am planning a trip this Christmas. We will spend just 5 nights, which isn't much time, but that is all the time we have available. I have booked the Hilton Hawaiian Village on the island of Oahu. Tell me is the price for food there as bad as everyone says? Our main purpose is to visit the UH campus, but hope to fit in a little sightseeing. Any tips would be greatly appreciated...
Angie

Fran, Dave, I bet your house is looking great!

Actually the house is a total mess. I should have taken a week off of work to do all this. Fran is also liking the chocolate brown paint. As she was walking around on Saturday she has decided that the brown would look good on some other walls. I think everytime I asked her to make me a crown and coke she decided that another wall needed to be brown even though we just painted it tan the night before......got to love her :love2:

Well I guess I ought to get back to work. Have a great day

Never been to Oahu--just Maui, Lanai and Kauai. Food was pretty expensive, although you still save money by having a kitchen and cooking your own as opposed to eating out every meal. I think last time we went we brought our own jar of peanut butter for some reason. Eric must have been eating lots of PBJ and peanut butter must have been really expensive over there. Heck, its expensive here. I wish I could help you with the sightseeing tips, but I'm sure someone on here can. I hear the Polynesian Cultural Center is worth a visit. (That is on Oahu, isn't it?)

Do you like to snorkel? Hawaii has great snorkling. Find a good luau--they're lots of fun. Try the poi, but don't expect much out of it.

Have a great trip! :sunny: If I wasn't cruising in '06, I'd be thoroughly jealous. I'm a bit jealous as it is--we love Hawaii.

Of course the house would be a total mess--I should have remembered that from back when we were painting, tiling, drywalling, etc. But I bet the more tile you get laid, the better it starts to look. And when you finish and get it all cleaned up... :lovestruc You'll love it!

Are you doing the bathrooms? If so, let me know how that goes. I'm afraid to do mine.

Angie- Oahu is fun, but 5 days there is plenty. Honolulu is very much a city on a beach. The Poly. Cultural Center is nice (good overview of the different tribes that formed the islands). Their dinner and show there were not my favorite. When we went to Oahu, we stayed a the Sheraton Moana Surfrider and it was terrific (now this was 15 years ago...) but the banyan tree in the courtyard was beautiful. Go see the USS Arizona Memorial - wonderful. The best luau we went to was Germaine's (but then again, this was 15 years ago). We found we did not need a car in Oahu, but I'm not sure of the cab fare to the college.

As for food... yes, it was pretty pricey for normal items. Ask the locals where they go when they go out (you'll find the less tourist oriented places that way). Enjoy your trip... the weather there in Dec. is very pleasant.

Are you doing the bathrooms? If so, let me know how that goes. I'm afraid to do mine.

We are doing the spare bath. The master bath was done by the builder because he supposedly fixed a leaky shower. After replacing the linolium (sp) 3 times he gave us tile and installed it. I will let you know how it goes. I am pulling the toilet up on Friday.

Dave

Pulling up the toilet doesn't scare me. It's putting it back in that I'm worried about!

Good luck with it!

I need to check the boards more often... I always have so much to comment on.

Wendy - ( vanvmom) The Cabo story was on CNN.

Dave and Monica - Sassi's sounds great. I work up that way. So any day is fine. Sherry said Alan's schedule is goofy at the time.

Ron - Yes, you can come to the Arizona meet. When are you coming to Arizona? Bring pictures from your Disneylan 50th trip.

Arizona Meet - Is anyone esle going to be in Arizona and want to come? All are welcome. The more the merrier.

Dave - I would also like a Disney video. How do I send my address to you?

Dreams Unlimited - Has been great for us. Ben even gets personal e-mails back to answer his questions. Ask for Tammie's help.

Fran and Dave - You need to post pictures when you get done with all this tile work. Do before and afters.

More Later,
Vickie ::MickeyMo

Anna, the count as of tonights news is 24. They didn't give exacts, only said the majority were homeless, the rest elderly living without air conditioning. I did see somewhere else (?) that a 37 year old man died in a car - don't know about that......

Angie, it's been a few degrees cooler the last few days with storms brewing. It's still well over 100 though! It'll stay over 100 until October - o.k., maybe the end of September :sunny: It doesn't really cool down at night either - it looks like its about 94 now. We spent 2 days on Oahu then went to the island of Hawaii. Like Wendy said, definately go to the USS Arizona Memorial. Go early in the day! It's been 13 or so years since we were there but unless it changed they give out tickets basically on a first come first served type deal. For example (I'm making times up), you might arrive at noon but your ticket to actually go out to the Arizona might not be until 5pm. There are things to see at the Visitors Center, but not that much. What I remember about trying to navigate while Alan drove was it seemed that all the street names start with a "K" followed "A" ...they all look the same and are not recognizable quickly. It could just be my eyesight :goodvibes

Ron, you most definately are included in the Arizona meet! It wouldn't be the same without you!

Fran and Dave - you guys crack me up :rotfl2: Kudos to you Dave, I can't believe you are doing this while working! Our house was built not quite 2 years ago. We didn't have the builder do the tile because of the price - everyone knows how that is I'm sure! We wanted about 1500 sq ft of tile laid on the diagnol with tile baseboards (including a big curve and also two bathrooms and a laundry room upstairs needing backer board). Alan thought he and his brother were going to do it, while working and all the stuff going along with moving. Finally my friend Nina got him to come to his senses. I did paint almost the whole house including ceilings (with some friends help) before we moved in. That builder paint is non-existant. I realized why they don't let you choose your paint - they paint off white because it's a close match to drywall so that way you don't notice all the flaws :scared1: It was amazing. I even have a Mickey room ::MickeyMo We were given a bed without a headboard for the guest room. Trying not to spend money I got to thinking I could paint some sort of headboard on the wall using paint I already had. My friend and I painted the wall yellow and painted basically a big Mickey hat on the wall (I had to buy a quart of black). We used a piece of lawn edging to shape the head and a big tub/bucket for the ears :earsboy: I found Mickey wallpaper border at Big Lots for $1.99. It's Mickey in film frames. I've got pictures from our trips in there. My Christmas present was the Mickey t.v. and dvd player to put in there.

Betsy and Dave, you may know this already but they do sell a thicker/higher wax ring for the toilet for use with tile flooring. We couldn't figure out why the boys toilet kept stopping up. Finally out of desparation Alan had to remove the toilet. There was popsicle stick lodged in there! Go figure!

Betsy and Wendy, do you hire out for remodeling??? You guys work your hearts out!

Sue and Ron - what a wonderful evening you had!

Have a great Tuesday everyone!
Sherry
