Julie & Brian's Disneyland Wedding (9/2011) Sleeping Beauty Theme

Darling, you're Sleeping Beauty plans are lovely! I'm so impressed with everything you've shared! :goodvibes

Edit: LOL and I just went back and re-read from the beginning, I LOVE that your wedding party is going to be mimicking Flora, Fauna and Merriweather!

all your plans sound so great! I love that your so visual...I can really see what your going for and its going to be beautiful!

Thanks for your posts everyone, I have a renewed spirit and don't feel so alone anymore! :flower3:

Summer, I didn't realize you were from CA, awesome. My Dad was military too, which is why he was in Lawton. Thank you for all the info on the wedding website, it is on my TTD list to check it out!

Anj, thank you so much for all your help! I am excited about the candy buffet, and I think the pink and blue bags will work out beautifully!

Elleinad16, thank you so much!! Glad that you like the nod to the three good fairies. I am kind of a dork like that, I want to feel like I am living out the story as the princess, it is my only chance as an adult to do it, so I'm taking the opportunity!princess:

Thank you so much KitKat5, I really appreciate it!

This Thanksgiving weekend I had a cold, bleh, but the nice thing was that I stayed in bed with my trusty laptop and got caught up on a bunch of PJs from start to finish! So many amazing ideas out there. I only wish I could be that organized. I have also been perusing random sites and pictures for ideas. I came across a couple of pictures which I love. One is of a set of letters, they are small and beautiful. I figure they could be used for either the I DO at the cake table or to spell out my new last name at the gift table. Here are the pictures, does anyone know where to get something like this?

A little disappointed, I ordered all my disposable table cameras from the Disney Store, they were on sale for 9.99, now I know why! I opened the first one and checked the film expiration date, it was for January 2011, well that is no good since the wedding is almost a year from that! So I need to see about returning them. I am hopeful I can still purchase some of the Disney ones but with good film in them. Has anyone else had something similar happen? How true to the date of development must I stick by?

So Bri and I are almost more excited about the honeymoon trip to WDW than the actual wedding! We have been pouring over articles, books and the WDW website. I think we finally have a tentative idea of what we are doing which day. Here is the plan (assuming we get all our dining reservations):

Wow I know it is all going to go by so fast! I can't wait to see everything, and taste everything (well not everything, but a lot of yummy food):woohoo: I think I am going to compile a list of what to bring, for those seasoned WDW travelers, what should I expect weather wise and what would you suggest remembering to bring?

Hey ladies, I wanted to let you know about an Etsy seller who sells beautiful garters! Her store is Lolliecouture. I purchased a blue and pink garter that she refers to as cotton candy. Here is the pic:

I thought it fit perfectly with my theming, I may add a castle charm to it, not sure. Check out her store though, she has several really cute french designs!

Our little ring bearer is adorable. This will be his third wedding as RB. I have a picture of him from another wedding, looking so serious!

momscamera455.jpg

I am in love with this outfit I found going through google images of what reminds me of a mini James Bond!

I haven't attempted to find it yet, but if anyone knows offhand where I might look, please let me know!

Subbing. I am new to the wedding boards; my bf (er, fiance) just proposed at Disneyland over the weekend and now I'm starting to plan my (hopefully) Disneyland wedding. :yay:

I love all your plans so far. :lovestruc

Thanks Mindyjoy! Congratulations!! That is so exciting! :yay: Where did he propose?! It is definitely a magical place. Which venues were you thinking of for the wedding? If you have any Qs, please let me know. Up until a month ago I worked at the Disneyland Hotel and would love to help you if I can!!

Hi, thank you! He proposed next to the christmas tree during the snow. Just like out of a fairy tale! Of course my dream is the rose garden but we will have to discuss budget.

How cool that you worked at the Hotel, what did you do? What a magical place to work! :goodvibes Hey, why did they take out the waterfalls, yes I'm still bitter about that. :headache:

Oh, forgot to say we are neighbors, I'm in Studio City. :yay:

OMG, I love that we are neighbors, maybe we can hang out at DL for lunch one day!

Wow, that is a truly magical proposal. Kudos to your man!

I was a concierge hostess at the hotel, and guest services. I worked up at the e-ticket lounge at the top of the dreams tower. I do miss it, but the drive was really getting to me. So I am taking a break.

Yes, I agree all this construction is so sad to me, but they got the opportunity to revamp the look of the hotel and they are going for AAA 4 diamond status like the Grand Californian. It will be more upscale, offer more amenities, and also cost more.

The reason they got rid of the waterfalls and the koi was to make room for the new pool, because that is where the demand supposedly was. I miss them like crazy. Also the koi fish were VERY expensive to upkeep and they felt that the fish were not popular enough to keep paying for. They have moved to the Huntington Library though, if you want to visit. :)

I am so afraid right now because they are going to be renovating the magic tower and the pavilion right around the time I am going to be married and I do not want to go to a ballroom. Fingers crossed I can squeeze in just before or after they work on it!

The RCG itself is fairly inexpensive, and it is beautiful!! It is the reception site that gets pricey. I would be glad to share the beo costs I have received with you so you can get a rough estimate. Please let me know if you have any specific Qs. Have you met with a Wedding Coordinator yet? What themes are you thinking? Can't wait to chat more neighbor!!:flower3:

Yay!! I ordered my Lilafrances hanger today. Now just to wait 8 weeks to receive it. Grrr

I am loving Etsy! I found some cute candy buffet labels, but I'm not sure if they are too childish. I liked them because they were pink and they had castles on them. What advice do you have??

I like the lace backgrounds on these a lot, I wonder if there is a seller who can combine the two? Which do you like better?

What is a beo? Is it the budget? If so, I would absolutely love to see that. We agreed we wouldn't discuss wedding things and budgets until after the holidays, but as you can see I am having a tough time keeping to that ...

As a little girl I always dreamed of being proposed to by the waterfalls, so I was so disappointed when they took them out (but it's okay - DF's proposal was perfect). And I used to LOVE to feed the koi fish. I demanded to do it during every visit. Le sigh ....

I really hope the costs at DLH don't go WAY up for 2012, although I am anxious to see all the changes. Would you believe I have never stayed at the DLH?!?!? I've stayed at the other two hotels and several Good Neighbor Hotels but I would love to stay at the DLH for the first time for my wedding! :lovestruc

I love the candy labels and I bet it wouldn't be too difficult to combine the two. All you need to do is add the castle icon to the lace tag. Like, maybe as a watermark in the background??? I really love the crystal on the lace one, too. I'm a crystal and sparkle kind of girl.

I understand it being hard NOT to start planning, even with the holidays upon us! I will PM you what I have so far, it is the pricing from 2009 when I booked, so it may have changed, but it will give you a rough estimate. :)

I understand what you mean about having dreamed of your perfect proposal and getting something equally amazing, just different from what you anticipated. I always wanted to be proposed to in the tunnel area of the castle (where we had our first kiss) but alas in 2004 the entire castle was under scaffolding as they renovated it and instead DF chose the private balcony and dinner. Still amazing, just different than what was planned as perfect in my head, LOL

As far as room costs at the DLH, for the rooms that have already been renovated, prices are currently reflected. So if you have looked at rates, you can see what they will be by the higher end rates. You can always call and check too, just to plan. What time of the year are you planning on a wedding? I don't know if or how much the wedding rates go up each year. The nice thing is that by 2012 all the construction will be complete. The Honeymoon suite at the DLH is absolutely amazing and magical!! I almost wish I didn't know what it looked like so I could be surprised! It is called the Fairytale Suite! Best room location in the hotel if you ask me, definitely plan on getting that room! Generally if you are married at the resort they comp a standard room for you that night, but it is worth it to upgrade, trust me! There was a time where DF and I had to stay at the resort (DLH) once a month. It was amazing, I could just be happy with the hotel grounds and never go into the parks. I do like the grand, but there is just something more magical to me about the original Disneyland Hotel. I know you will love it! What a great first experience too!!

Thanks for your advice on the candy labels, I ordered the punches of the castles in pink and blue and bought some rhinestones. I think that is an awesome idea to combine them. I love sparkle too!! I was thinking for the labels to do storybooks or something with the little castle at the bottom. Still working it out in my head. ;)

OK, once I get my BEO stuff off the other computer I will PM you what I have! :o) YAY, do you have a PJ yet? I would love to see what ideas you have thus far.

In keeping with the theme of Sleeping Beauty, my hope is to have a “cottage in the glen/ peasant princess” luncheon or tea.
Thus far my ideas of a place to have such an event have not worked out so well. I want to stay within the Los Angeles area or just barely into Orange County if needed. The first place my Mom mentioned was a winery in Temecula called Briar Rose Winery of all things! It was perfectly themed, but much too far for my friends and family to travel to. (113 miles from my house, further for several others!)

Next idea was the historic Tam O’Shanter Restaurant in Los Feliz. It was the unofficial commissary of the original Disney studios and a favorite for Walt himself to dine at. It is a little expensive, but would be worth it. Their big private room is so masculine though!
TamPP_1_lg.jpg
So with the expense for a space that wasn’t as perfect as I pictured. I continued my search.

My Mom once again suggested a beautiful place. Inn of the 7th Ray. It is gorgeous, has exactly the feel I was going for, but the menu doesn't seem as delicious as I had hoped.
f5f67fa32eff497e9dd24d83b515266a.jpg
I haven’t been there personally, or called them, but I doubt they will do a tea or allow outside food. Also, the outdoor garden is weather permissive. (Weighing out the pluses and minuses, this is a maybe).

You may be wondering why I am doing the searching instead of my MOH. She moved out to Arizona a year ago.:sad1: I miss her, but she started up her own business as well as working full time so she is doing well, just super busy. Since I currently have plenty of time on my hands, it was just as fun for me to search and find the perfect location.

Next ideas- tea houses. I had no idea what a difficult task that would be. The one I used to take my Mom to each year for Mother's Day and Christmas, The Gilded Rose Manor has been closed due to the economy, but they still cater events. (keeping this in the back of my mind)

Also considered (as if I could afford it) the fabulous Hotel Bel Air only they are undergoing massive construction and won't be reopening until Summer 2011 and my MOH wants to fly out to do the shower in April or May. So this is a no go. Although it is gorgeous!! Love the swans and greenery.

tea.jpg

There are a few in Pasadena, but they were not exactly what I was hoping for.

I also thought about maybe the Sportsman's Lodge with the beautiful swans and greenery, but they have changed ownership and no longer have the restaurant, only the hotel.

Thinking about space at hotels…
Ultimately what I would like to do is to rent a beautiful space, or even use someone’s lush green backyard (wish I knew someone with one), cater the tea, scones and sandwiches and then order a bunch of fun desserts like petit fours, chocolate covered strawberries and maybe some Sprinkles cupcakes, yum!

I am having such a hard time though, any ideas on hotel spaces or banquet areas I could look into would be wonderful. Aiming for Burbank, Glendale, or Hollywood area as it would be a common meeting ground for many.

Does anyone know who to contact about setting up the photoshoot at WDW? Also any ideas on pricing or locations available? Any info and help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

So I have not posted pictures of my engagement ring like many brides. I started this PJ last year and got my ring in 2004. I still get sad, because I no longer have the original ring DF got for me. It was a gorgeous 3 stone with pave along the sides. Round Brilliant for the main stone and while we were moving from Burbank to Orange County for me to go to school, we were staying at my Mom's house in my old room. My horrible looser step-brother was also sleeping on the sofa, job-less and drugged out. We stayed with Mom for about 2 weeks. I placed my ring on the night-side table while I went to clean the apartment (the day before we were moving in). When I returned both my ring, other personal items and the druggie step-brother were gone. We haven't seen him since, we just get his parking tickets in the mail. GRRR! So I have been without a ring and missing it. Initially I designed a ring I wanted to have made, but recently changed my mind. I'm working on a new design that I am hoping to take to the jeweler in January. Here is an idea:

02-ARTCARVED-31-V164ERD-E_XL_D.jpg

Only instead of the baguettes on the side, I would just want pave and from the side view the heart on the high setting, and swirls from the DL castle as well.:lovestruc

I will keep you posted as I get the ring. If anyone knows of a jeweler in the Los Angeles area who would create this custom ring for me, please let me know!!

:guilty: That's such a bummer about your old ring. :sad2:

But the one you are thinking of having designed looks beautiful!!! :goodvibes
Perfect with your theme! :lovestruc

I'm pressed for time but I wanted to comment on the tea. There is a place called Ever After Teahouse in Studio City, I have never been there but it is across the street from one of my favorite cafes, Aroma. It is on Tujunga Blvd and looks so cute! I have no idea what it looks like inside, though.
