Jules Bass passed away

At the age of 87 on 10/25.

He was half of Rankin Bass as in the Rankin Bass Christmas specials like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, The Year Without a Santa Claus, Santa Claus is Comin to Town and many many others (like Nestor!)

Oh, that's sad, the work was an anchor for a generation of kids.

I cannot imagine my childhood without their programs.

Before the days of so many channels to watch, we had the big 3 networks, a PBS station and some UHF channels. Also, it was before the days of home video or digital downloads. Yes, I am old. What I'm getting at is that every Christmas we'd look forward to Rankin/Bass shows like no other TV programs about the holiday. Freshly bathed and in our new Christmas pajamas we'd sit eagerly in front of a TV that was more like a piece of furniture, and wait for the beloved shows to come on. After they showed, that was it for another year. And we were fine with that.

Or my adulthood. I still watch them every holiday. To me, Christmas isn't Christmas without them. Year Without A Santa Claus is my favorite

Rankin-Bass gets a lot of credit for their Christmas specials, which I always watched, but as an 80's kid, I really appreciated them for bringing us ThunderCats & SilverHawks (and the lesser-known TigerSharks). They also produced The film The Last Unicorn!

Rankin/Bass holiday movies are permanently etched into my life. Watched them as a kid, and still watch now. It is on par with Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang. Holidays would NOT be what they are without them.

You haven't lived until you know who Yukon Cornelius is.

As a 55 year old....still a fan of those Christmas specials. I love when I try to explain to my 17, 16 and 15 year old niece and nephews.....how we'd look forward to those programs for a full year....because no DVR, no way to record them....you saw it when you saw it and that was it for the year. It was an *event*! And they look at me like I'm an alien .
