Jul 24 Alaska 9-day cruise

just finished booking this cruise. We're on the starboard side...wondering what's the best side to be on for the Alaska cruises (realizing that DCL hasn't done Hubbard Glacier before)? Anybody else going? The ship looks pretty full already, especially considering it's over a year from now.

I vote port side as preferred...

• starboard offers more privacy.... except in Vancouver where the Wonder loads from the starboard side.... the public has a great view of your cabin from an elevated public platform.

Hmm.... late July.... you might get a chance to catch the annual fireworks competition....

Actually I prefer to be on the side where we dock to watch the activities with tying up. However, I was referring more to views. May be a moot point since it's a round trip cruise so we'll see things on both sides eventually.

Looked up Celebration of Light and that's in Vancouver on the 30th. We'll still be cruising South on that day. Too bad, it's a Disney fireworks display on the date you specified.

For 2017... the tentative firework dates may be July 29, August 2, and August 7th.

The 2017 long weekend is August the 7th... thus your cruise has potentially 2 post cruise fireworks nights.

We were on the starboard side of the ship our first trip to Alaska. We were always on the dock side while docked which gives you a good view of the goings on on deck. We are port side for this cruise, which should give us a more scenic view in port. Sailing through the inside passage, you will have land on both sides, so it really doesn't matter which side of the ship you are one, you will see both sides coming and going. As far as the glaciers, the captain usually turns the ship so you can see the glacier from all sides of the ship.

Vancouver is always docked on the starboard side.... likely due to the tour desk and guest services layout. The other ports will use port side more.
