Day 5 Monday October 4th, 2010
Another gorgeous morning this day was. Easy for me to recall such a detail as each and every day was absolutely gorgeous! I did forget to mention our pet that we adopted on our arrival night at the Villa in GKTW. His name is Skippity as he was missing a leg. No clue if this was some sort of leaf bug. Grasshopper, locus. Or what it was but since it scared all of us we named it which somehow made it seem friendlier. Here is his picture before we move on to the actual days events HAHA.
Alright, Now that that has been taken care of lets get on with the days activities. Today we chose Universal Studios. We thought we would do one side this day and another side another day. Nope we did all of it in less then 1 day. How do you wonder? I;m not sure if you recall but the week of yes's turned into a week of no and as the week continued this was coming to a peak. For now lets talk about Universal. I was amazed at how they handled the parking here. Instead of parking 10 miles away and having to take a tram bus or trolley thing to get into the park the guy takes one look at the GKTW button and says turn your 4 ways on and follow the path. Wow parking right there at the floor you need to be on easy as pie. Now for us the Moving sidewalks were fun all in itself. When we entered into Universal we was lost as soon as we was passed the moving sidewalks. It took us a few minutes just to realize that the start of universal was the start for both parks not 1 and that I see why they do this. They snag you into buying items as you walk in and as you walk out LOL. Guess what. It Works ! Seriously there was a stand on the right hand side that sold cases for all hand held items. Not a regular cloth case a spiffy vibrant sticky kinda cover that you can take on and off and even take say your iPod or telephone and slap it up on a wall , fridge, pretty much anyplace and it will stick. UGH we bought into it and 4 of these things was purchased. OWWIE ouch. 80 bucks POOF right there and yet to step into the park. At the very end of all this I will post random pictures and will make sure to take a picture of my skin I added onto my iPod.
OK so we go left first which if I recall correctly is island. Still at this point James was in his no mood. :/ kinda put a damper on the days some until he snapped out of it but no matter we still had fun
first thing we did was look at the hulk ride and say Heck No. Just looking at it made me want to have a hearty attack. We just walked along took in the sites asked James as we passed by things if he wanted to go do it. Of coursed it's still no's lol. Finally we come upon Twister. Asked James if he wanted to and he started to say no and I stepped in this time and said we ALL was going in because I knew this one did not have anything to make anyone scared or ill lol. WOW amazing Universal brought us to our own private waiting room
talk about a magical moment of feeling special. It was also a moment when as far as parks go the trip started to change for the better. Don't get me wrong No matter what the trip was going great. We was experiencing something new as a family, we were all together. No hospitals, no work, no bills, no school. No housework. No cooking No massive cleaning.
This is a Week of no's that I am loving LOL OK so No Lines NO waiting !! which worked out great because that was also something that we learned on this trip. James has a phobia of large crowds.
We knew he was shy. We didn't know crowds caused anxiety. So Twister was amazing lots of fun head of line and easy in easy out. We did several other things within the two parks that day. Twister Disaster etc. Was such a lovely day out just experiencing the sites and the imagination of those who create such places. I personally had never seen something so larger then life. Katelynn, James and I were all born in same hospital, lived in same town, over all no travel experience. So to see something so HUGE was pretty darn cool for all of us. When we worked our way over to Plutos blarge the kids refused to get wet. I was looking at this like OMG this would be something of a lifetime event thing to do and I WANNA do it. But the no's from kids came back. Well Tony to my rescue lol. I;m sure he didn't want to get wet either. But he went with me ! AWESOME when we were sitting in that raft I was scared for a moment cause we left the two kids behind to watch us. That was a first. I started to feel guilty but then I was like after bypassing so much so often and I was HOT. This Maine girl was not used to this kinda heat in the fall lol so strapped in and off we go. I looked over at Tony and I felt so young with him hahaha. Laugh omg we laughed. It was just too fun I can't even begin to tell you. James was able to snap a picture of us as we was about to head under a bridge
Us 2 elder kiddos in the raft. After we got off that ride Katelynn and James laughed so hard at us. We was literally soaked from head to feet
coolness ! Yay. James decided it looked pretty fun and wanted to go but his pants were to baggy to get wet so he shopped around for some shorts. Unfortunately they did not have any his size and at this point we decided to call it a day and head back to GKTW.
I had mentioned going swimming when we get back to GKTW since they had 2 pools and told them it had been a lifelong dream of mine to simply swim in Florida and it didnt matter how, in a pool in the ocean or dancing in the rain but I seriously wanted to swim! James LOVED the idea. So early day yet again we had bounced through both universal parks off we go to swim at home
I put home in quotations because I really want to share this side note with you. Never have any of us so easily called someplace else home. It came so natural to us to say want to go home. And we all knew we were talking about the villa. For those of you reading this who has yet to experience Give Kids The World. You just wait. You are in for a treat of a lifetime. Even though our avg day out of the resort was 7 hours most days less, We do not feel a void for what we missed at the parks. There is so much love, respect, cheerfulness happiness at GKTW it changes you. I feel blessed with the opportunity to know what it is like to be there. I kid you not for that week life is abnormal because you are experiencing something you never otherwise would have. However, if you need that moment to feel normal again, to feel like OK life is good life is wonderful. This place gives you that.
Back onto the day. LOL I just can't say enough how much we loved it at GKTW. I do have a confession to make. HAHAHA I had a meltdown. Completely. This mum turned into a lil kid herself. I mean this is sad. We laugh now at it but at the time I felt stupid, silly and childish. Going back to the coming home and going swimming. James changed his mind. Katelynn I never expected too go swimming. She has a fear of pools/deep water and is simply uncomfy. My hubby is not a huge fan of swimming in public. So I was counting on James to go. Silly Silly mum LOL. Here it is James trip and I am having the meltdown about the fact he promised to go swimming and now he doesn't want to... I was too scared to go by myself over swimming. I felt silly going without one of the kiddos. Like I would have been taking up space meant for another. No clue why I felt that way. I just didn't want to swim alone. James ultimately caved lol so did Tony. They went in just so far with me into the pool then met me over on the other side so I could at least say I went swimming in Florida LOL. Maybe I was overtired and I know the idea of flying back home weighed heavy on my mind. Between the two and just having a different sched sent me for a childish loop. Here is the plus to this. After my meltdown James gave more of an effort to say yes, so did Katelynn. I also decided to give up on begging for pictures as I realized it was a losing battle. Other than meltdown from another family member later in the trip, we came to a head on butting heads.
From here on out until the flight home things went quite a bit smoother.
I will now toss in the few pictures we took at Universal.
OH BTW. Harry Potter was a huge waste of time. There was literally no walking room. We walked through one store and back out the other side. Walked through the main road of Harry Potter and back on out again. Such a shame too. We at least get to say we saw it in person right? LOL
