I just signed up my DD(7) and DN(6) for the Jr. Chefs Program at the Floridian. I'd love to hear more about it from people who have had their children experience it. Is it woth the 30.00??

Thanks,

My daughter did the Junior Chef program at The Land in Epcot near Sunshine Season Food Fair. It was FREE with park admission for children 3-10. They typically have a show every half hour.

They got personalized chef hats and I believe an apron. Then two adults helped them mix chocolate chip cookies.

When they were done, each child got some sample cookies.

We went in May and signed our kids up for the program @ GF. son is 9 and daughter is 4. They had a good time. Doors open right on time. The kids go in and sit down. They had a video going. You are then handed a beeper/pager just in case they need to get a hold of you. The kids get a chef hat with mouse ears attached and an apron that they pain with their own hand prints. It's very cute. They are given instruction and participate in mixing (i think) and filling min. tart shells. When done 1 1/2 hr. they return in line to the loby and hand out their treats to the guests. Both kids enjoyed this activity. I got great pictures. they bouth looked proud while handing out their little creations.

By the way. My daughter (4) has never been to daycare or had babysitters with exception of my parents. She is very shy....at first. She had no problems being left for this activity. She loved it.

It's a good choice. I think your kids will have a great time.

Our 5 yr old DS jsut participated in this in June and had a GREAT time. They do get to keep the hats and aprons.

Its worth it just to see the kids come out in their "gear" and pass out the cookies they made. Make sure you have the cameras ready!!

Can someone tell me what time of the day they do this and where can I find more info? We are going in Oct. and I think my ds (6) would really enjoy this. Thanks

I don't know if they do it multiple times per day, but we are booked for 9:45 am.
I read about it on these boards and saw it on the Travel Channel.
As far as booking goes, I belive you book it like you would any PS. The Poly Concierge took care of ours. They mentioned that it fills up very fast and can be booked 90 days out.

Hope this helps.:D

Poly concierge also booked this for us. When I called to inquire about it, every day it was offered during our trip was booked. They put DS's name on a waiting list, and when we checked in I was told he was in! It was a real surprise. I don't know if the waiting list is only a concierge thing, but anyone who is told it's booked should ask about the list.

Is this "Jr. Chefs" program something new or do you mean the Grand Adventures in Cooking? My son has done the latter and really enjoyed it. He was there last July 4th and they made red white and blue Mickey cookies which they handed out to passers by in front of the GF Cafe. His chef hat did not have Mickey Ears on it but he did get to keep the hat and apron which he had decorated.

That sounds like soo much fun for the kids. My DD is 5 and just loves helping in the kitchen. I am going to look into getting her in group while we are there.

Thanks for the Thread and the Information.

Just wondering the same thing. I have WL CL booking it for us, and am wondering the difference.

YES, it is called "Grand Adventures in Cooking". Don't know where I got Jr. Chefs from?? . I guess it was easier to say?:hyper:
Who knows... I'm always doing that. Sorry for the confusion.

At least the Poly Concierge was able to figure it out.:teeth:

I have a write-up on the Grand Adventures in Cooking Class -- click here to view it (just look for the post entitled "Grand Floridian Day Four, Part 1" on that page).

My daughter did the class again just a few weeks ago but I haven't had time to write about it yet. The only real change is that the chefs' hats had mouse ears (very cute). I'll try to post a photo soon.

MY DD did this about 2 years ago. Her group made pizza. The chef at the time said he decides what they will make when he sees the age group of the children that day. Even though you make a reservation, people will still show up at times other the time they were suppose to, so the ages on the GF papers are not always correct. My DD loved passing out the pizza to the other guests.

Hi there!

My two did this last summer with my friend's child as well. They were 2 boys (6) and a girl (5). They loved it!

Be ready with those cameras outside the Grand Floridian Cafe! They come into the main building there and pass out their treats. This was great - people were startled, some needed convincing that it was O.K. to take the children's treats! But every person the children encountered walked away with a smile from the "magical" experience. I have LOTS of pictures from this event.

While the children participated my friend and I enjoyed a (semi)quiet meal at the GFC (she had a baby with her as well.

When my kids did the Pirate Adventure the year before, there was time for a quick spa treatment!

I just wanted to thank you for the great write ups on all your events! We are WDW regulars, but have some friends going for the first time this October. I tried and tried to convince them to do some of the GF kid events, but they didn't feel comfortable leaving their boys (9 & 10 years old) in the care of someone they didn't know. After reading your descriptions, they have reconsidered.
Sometimes it just takes the opinion of someone else...
