Has anyone taken the monorail just for fun? Is there a cost? Where is the best place to jump on? Is it true that you can ask to ride up front? :wizard:

Hi,

Yes, you can take a ride just for the ride. No charge. You can board at any of the stops: MK, Contemporary, TTC, Poly, GF, or Epcot.

You can ask a CM to sit up front but you may have to let a few monorails go by.

Of course you can ride the monorail just for fun! And you don't even have to pay for it! :thumbsup2 When we go to WDW in December, all the Christmas decorations are up. We usually ride the monorail and check out every hotel on the monorail line for their decorations.

Definitely ask to ride in the front!!! My son LOVES this!!!

We have in the past got to ride up front but lately there has been quite a gaggle of people waiting. We park at MK and take monorail to dinner ressies at Poly or contemporary. DS got a Co pilot liscence from driver. The front cab seats 4 passengers and driver.

If you want to ride up front, it has to be empty. So you might want to strategize on where you could get on where people would not get on before you.
So like riding from the TTC to Epcot in the middle of the day would be a way. At the TTC people generally get off, and if you go in the middle of the day, there is not as much competition. We rode up front twice this past trip and i was amazed that they had college kids driving the monorail! If you ask nicely of the driver, they may give you an "honorary monorail driver license card".

We waited through 6 monorails at MK before getting to ride up front, but it was worth it. The waiting was in the shade under the canopy, so it was actually a nice break from all the walking. We rode the whole circuit and then got back off at MK to finish our day.

Has anybody else had anyone make comments about you wanting to ride up front in the monorail. This past December I took my 72 y/o mom for her first ever trip to WDW. She was so excited. After eating breakfast at Park Fare one morning we were going to ride the monorail over to MK, so I was hoping to surprise her with a ride in the front of the monorail. Just a few moments after I asked the CM at the platform, a man with three boys (8-15 y/o range) came up and asked. The CM told them we had asked first, but they were welcome to wait. Both the man and two of the boys (probably 9 y/o and 12 y/o) got really snotty and started making comments that, that was ridiculous and as we were adults they were sure we wouldn't mind if they rode up front instead. Excuse me, from the way those boys were acting it was obvious they had ridden up front several times, whereas my mom had never gotten the chance. Thankfully the CM just smiled and told them we had gotten there first and the first monorail that had available seats up front we would get. As we were getting on the next monorail (up front I might add) the middle boy shot us the finger and the dad just laughed at him and told him not to worry about it as some people were just rude. What! We were the ones being rude, because we wouldn't give up the seat? I don't think so! :confused3

I just don't get where folks think that just because they have kids that adults should give up their seats. We had the same thing happen at parades where people would just push their kids up in front of my mom's scooter and then ease themselves up there ('to be near their kids'), placing their big adult butts right in front of her face and then making comments like 'WDW is for the kids afterall' like she didn't need to see.

Ouch. Did they really think that snotty comments would get them on first? They wouldn't have had to wait more than a few minutes for the next monorail. What nerve they had to call you rude, and what sort of parent laughs when his son shoots someone a bird? I wonder if it was some overblown macho thing, being that they were 4 males and you were 2 females. It all goes back to that general sense of entitlement some people have- their family, their children, etc are the MOST important ones in the world, and everyone else should 'bow down' to them. Everyone, every family, every child is equally important- and should wait their turn. :sad2:

Oh my goodness gracious!!
I am amazed at how some people and their kids behave! Nothing like taking your kids to the most magical place on earth and then letting him give someone the finger!

There is nothing better then sitting up front!!
There are 8 of us going this year and only my DH, myself and my son have been to DW so I am hoping to get the grandparents up front as soon as possible!!!
And yes I must admit, I have ridden on the monorail for no reason!
