Journey into Imagination with Figment closing

After the return of Dreamfinder and Figment at the D23 Convention in Walt Disney World I would hope this means the return of this attraction to its former glory. I am hoping with Disney's recent trend of retuning original attractions to a modern audience, the same will be done with figment. This was an attraction that should not have been messed with from the beginning. A cast member once told me the update was a "17 million dollar blunder" and I totally agree. This attraction was timeless, in the same way It's a Small World still is today. Let's hope Figment will be back soon!:wizard:

The more I think about this, the more distraught I get. I was at EPCOT in '83 (I think I still have the t-shirt). And there was Figment. The cute new dragon. The 1st independent Disney character I could remember. Wasn't Mickey, Donald or Goofy. You got the feel that this was a place where you could put your own spin on things.

As the years have gone by, the more mainstream Disney characters have been pouring over. No more Rio de Tiempo (now it's Donald's). The expo centers are now stores and character meet n greets.

I know Disney is in the business of business. And spreading the character brand is part of that. But instead of potentially casting aside an icon that I and many others associate with EPCOT, why not expand his role?

SAVE FIGMENT!!!!

Thing is, the attraction and character you and many other so fondly remember has been gone a long time now, replaced initially by the Journey into Your Imagination debacle and then the Figment "overlay" onto the pathetic JIYI.

Given the abysmally poor track record by Disney when it comes to attraction refurbishments - especially in Future World - we'll need more than a miracle to get a new attraction half as good as the original (now, if they'd just left it alone to begin with...).

Certainly there have been rumors of a JII rehab for some time now, but who knows if anything is imminent.

There are plans that only await $$$

Plans

1. Trackless Pooh ride system anthe theater will be knocked down to make room for more ride space. Dreamfinder would return. Also the Fire exit issue would be resolved and image works would reopen upstairs.

2. Trackless system and Dreamfinder but theater stays and a new film staring Figgy opens.

3. Same ride system but Finder returns and EO stays in the theater the barebones overhaul.

Ten pages later, I finally need to give my opinion.

I haven't been on JII in a few years. Just not something me or my family does, because it's not on our "must do" list. So I really wouldn't be sorry to see it go. That is, however, if they have a better alternative, such as a Weather Pavillion or a Space Pavillion (although the second one probably won't happen because of MS).

If they don't have anything better, then I just say keep it, no need to have any more empty buildings on property. :sad2:

No chance it will be anything but JII.

Sorry about that, but I was talking to Tony Baxter at the end of the Lunch With The Legends at the Disneyana Fan Club Convention in California on July 15.

Tony was very adamant that there are currently no plans to shut down Journey Into Imagination With Figment. Before anything new is done to the pavilion they will have to get a new sponsor.

We LOVE the Figment ride so I hope this isn't true! I'm going back to Disney in three days so I'll make a note to ask several cast members at the Figment ride if this is true. I'll post their responses to this thread when I find out. Cross your fingers everyone! :figment:

Read the post above yours.

Why, why, why are people coming out of the woodwork to express support for an inferior, dumbed-down, shadow-of-its-former-self attraction such as the current version of Journey into Imagination??? I can understand this with regards to the original version, but what we have there now is a Figment overlay slightly dressing-up a mistake that should never have happened.

No one wants Figment to go away, and there doesn't appear to be any realistic chance of that even when the attraction ultimately gets refurbished (however long that is...sigh...).

That's what I said the only thing holding it up is $$$$

So yes there are plans I've seen them.

Yeah and I believed ME when he said Fantasia would never be released on video . . . . . I do not think he is going to divulge company business pro or con . . . .
