Jorts For Men?? Are They Ever Acceptable?

I'm cool with whatever looks good on a man as long as the shorts aren't Daisy Dukes and their junk doesn't fall out

When looking for photos I saw a few of men wearing Daisy Dukes with their junk practically falling out. Had to use a gallon of eye bleach.

Where did you find all the photos of the short swim trunks from the 70s? You're missing the Speedo-type ones the younger guys wore, though.

The color block trunks I posted are actually from the 80s. Just google for something like "vintage 80s men's swimwear." I'm sure you can find photos of young guys wearing Speedos if you'd like.

I would say no, they're totally out, but I'm hardly qualified to respond. I just learned earlier this week that my beloved cargo shorts are also no longer acceptable (unless you're Adam Sandler).

About 10 days ago, on Buzzfeed, a guy wrote a tongue-in-cheek article about how cargo shorts must be banned, complete with photos of how horrible they are. And also photos of suggested alternatives. Jorts and cut-offs were some of the alternatives. A few days later there was a rebuttal on a website called BroBible or something similar. Both articles contain salty language.


I have about 10 pairs of shorts; all knee length or longer. Maybe 7 are cargo shorts. Never gonna give them up.

I have some Jean shorts I still wear occasionally. They were in style when DW bought them for me & they still fit. I'm 48, so I could give 2 flips about fashion.

I'm also glad for shorter shorts making a comeback. I won't wear them super short (like I did in the 80's & 90's), but it's nice being able to find shorts & trunks that aren't essentially capris. IMO, right at the knee while standing, knee fully exposed while sitting is "just right".

Where have you been the past 10 years? Young men's shorts are longer, almost like capris, but for more mature guys, knee length has been the norm and de rigueur for a decade or more.

Well I'm even older and I'm as far away as a fashion plate as you can get, but jorts don't look right to me. I had some in the 80s, maybe even the 90s, but somewhere along the line I decided they weren't for me any longer. Then over the past couple of years I started seeing more of them and thinking nobody wears those any more So guys made a conscious decision to start wearing them again? That's like wearing black dress socks with shorts. The only guys who do that just don't know any better.

My husband wears denim shorts longer length to work in the yard or if we go to Florida or someplace hot. I prefer those over his baggy cargo shorts.

I just wish he'd quit tucking his tshirts into his shorts/pants. It looks terrible but he disagrees.

My husband wear denim shorts. Both of my sons wear them to school. They hate khaki shorts and denim shorts are acceptable according to the dress code. I didn't realize they were so out of fashion - I guess that explains why they were impossible to find in stores and I ordered them online. Oh well, don't really care what's in or what's out.

Really? I don't think I ever had a problem finding knee length shorts or bathing suits since the turn of the millennium.

Back in the late 80s or early 90s, when I was still wearing Chevy Chase National Lampoon's Vacation length short shorts (complete with almost knee height white tube socks with color bands near the top), I was aghast when men's shorts started getting longer. How the heck can they call those long things shorts?!! But I gradually started wearing them and grew to like them.

But I'm NEVER going to go back to shorty shorts ever again. I already have my strategy planned out if knee length shorts stop being produced. My sister has my mom's sewing machine in her basement, and if necessary, I'll learn to sew. I'll sacrifice a pair of my worn-out long shorts, take them apart carefully at the seams, and use them as the pattern to produce new ones myself.
Every man wearing booty shorts can then make fun of me. I won't mind.

Truth be told, my calves look great, but my thighs need to be hidden.

I care about what I wear, like my cloths clean, neat and current. I would not wear jean shorts as they have not been in style for a long long time. I don't care what others wear though.

Now that you say that, I don't remember seeing jean shorts for guys anywhere this year. Tons of very cute styles for juniors and women though. Not sure why they are ok for girls but not guys...
