Joplin is my home. My family is all ok, thank God. Many many others are not as lucky. Several of my friends homes were completely destroyed. Many friends families got killed. It is the most awful thing that I have ever witnessed. Every school i went to is gone, my childhood home is gone. My heart is just broken. I am so sad to hear of the loss of one of our own Dis members and her DH. I never even knew her. Wish I did. My prayers are with her family.

I have family in Joplin. My sister's house is leveled but her and her husband are okay- waiting to hear about my niece and nephew though. My sister lives across from the big WalMart which was leveled as well

What a tragedy! My heart goes out to those who suffered a loss.
I have a brother from Joplin. I got a call from my elderly mother last night and she was hysterical because she couldn't reach my brother. We finally found him, but still haven't spoken to him. He's at the Salvation Army helping out, so we know he is safe.

It has been a deadly spring. Such sad news for so many people!

My niece's finace's family lives there. His mom's home was hit and his sister lost her car, but they're ok, thank goodness. His younger cousin was missing for a while, but I just heard he was found and is ok.

His brother is somehow involved in the rescue/search and has pulled bodies from rubble.

My prayers for everyone. It's just awful.

I hate living in this area of the country in the Spring. I had the choice between living in Des Moines and Joplin and it was actually the lack of basements that caused us to choose Des Moines in addition to more job opportunities for me at the time.

Our church is getting together supplies and helpers to head out there soon..

Just heard on CNN that the death toll has risen to 116. So heartbreaking.

This is footage from last night when Mike Bettes from the Weather Channel was one of the first reporters on the scene. It's telling to see how emotional he gets when trying to do his report.

I believe CNN just had a story on the DISer who was killed by the tornado. They were speaking to CNN 'iReporter' Zach Tusinger who said his aunt, uncle and their dogs were taking cover in an interior hallway when the tornado struck their home, near the hospital. He had previously mentioned that they had just returned from Disney World.

I was watching the news with my six year old daughter and she started to cry. I did too, and had to turn the tv off. We both said a prayer for all those suffering from this tragedy, may God bless and comfort them.

My thoughts and prayers are with those that live in the area or have family and friends there. I just couldn't even imagine going through this.

That weather channel clip just reduced me to tears. When you think that this guy has been doing this for years and has seen many a natural disaster..and then he is overwhelmed, well, it just makes you realize how bad this really is.

So, so utterly devastating

Ugh, I watched the weatherman video and it made me cry. I cannot imagine the shock, sadness, and everything that has happened. I pray for those families who I don't even know here on the DIS and everyone else.

This just totally shows how life is precious and how quickly it can be taken away.

How terribly sad.

Maybe it sounds bad to say - but I'm glad they had that trip before this all happened. I know a gal who's husband unexpectedly passed away after they got home from a dream trip to Europe. It gave her some comfort that they had those memories. I hope their family can find the same kind of comfort.

I can't even imagine the heartache God bless the people of Joplin.
