Mickey called bright and early and we awoke, dressed, repacked and got ready for breakfast at Boma. There was no silent voice message confirming the room change, and that made me nervous, because now I had told the little girl that we would be moving and she would be sleeping in the bunky bed tonight. I called the front desk to see what to do with our luggage and check on the room change. The lady looked at our reservation and said that no room change was noted. I explained the conversation from midnight, she typed some things into her computer and said, okay, just call and send your luggage to storage and stop by the front desk for your new keys later today. Great, so thats what we did.
After breakfast we were heading to AK for the day and I stopped by the front desk to see if there was a number to call when our new room was ready. A not very friendly or helpful cast member looked at me and said, room changes wont be ready until after 3:00 maybe way after. I was kind of shocked and said that wasnt my understanding and repeated that the cast member the day before had said it would be in the morning some time. She asked for my name and current room number. She then looked at the computer and said, who did you talked to, cause you didnt talk to one of us. There is not room change here.
At that point I was more than a little frustrated. I had been offered a room change and accepted it. I had promised a 4 year old bunky beds. And I had now talked to three cast members who appeared to just be giving me lip service and not actually doing anything. Mind you, I didnt expect Disney to find me a bunk bed room, but when they offered and I accepted I felt they had a right to follow through. I calmly expressed my frustration and the cast member reluctantly arranged for the room change.
We headed out for Animal Kingdom. It was awesome. We started, like everyone else, with the safari ride. What is it about Disney that makes people so friendly? Im sure it is a misnomer, but its as if all the fear that keeps us from speaking to strangers, or even neighbors, about everyday things in real life just fades away in Disney. While we waited in line, we spoke with a nice family about their day at MGM the day before, about how the weather seemed about perfect, and about how great the safari ride was. The crowds were fine. It seemed like a lot of people were around, but the wait times were minimal. The safari ride was a walk on.
After that Jonna and I got our faces painted and then we headed to camp Minnie Mickey, as that was what Jonna wanted to do. Meet Characters. On our way to the camp, we saw a short line for Lilo and Stitch, which we waited in and then for Chip and Dale. We saw Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and the Brother Bear bears. Jonna was soooo excited. She kept saying, Theyre so soft!!! Then we saw the Festival of the Lion King. Jonna danced through this whole show. Im a bit disappointed in the theatre though. If Disney is aware that half of their clients are under 4 and a half feet, why would they stagger the seating so shallow. None of the children in our area could see.
We had Pizza at Pizzafari for a snack about noon and then we did Triceratops Spin, saw Pooh, Tigger, and Piglet, and fast passed Its Tough To Be a Bug. The last order of business was to purchase a dress for the princess breakfast in Norway the next morning. First Jonna wanted to be Belle. We picked out the dress, gloves, wig, and jewelry for Belle. Great!! Lets get these and go. Not so fast Aunt Shelly I need shoes. This is where the problem began. No Belle shoes in Jonnas size and the next smaller and larger sizes were just too big and small. After a bit of crying, remember I have a four year old who hasnt had a nap yet, and its almost three oclock in the afternoon, we changed to Jasmine. This was actually better because the costume was more practical, pants and a top, slipper shoes, and a wig. Score, less than a hundred dollars, and back to AKL.
So I approach the dreaded desk, feeling a little uneasy about the room change at this point. No need for dread. Yes Mrs. Baxter we have your new room for you. Its room 4239 on the Arusha Savannah. Thats right, an upgrade, not just to pool view, but all the way to savannah view. I thanked the CM for the upgrade and said it wasnt necessary; I really just wanted the bunk beds. This nice lady just said they were happy to make the upgrade and for us to have a magical trip. Ah Disney!!
After a quick nap for Jonna and unpacking for me dinner that night was at Ohana, which Ill review on the restaurant boards later. We topped off the evening with a monorail ride to Epcot and a bus transfer back to AKL. We had a pretty great first day and a pretty tired little girl.
Tomorrow Epcot, the Princesses and the stomach flu (YUCK!!)
