Monday
We were up nice and early Monday morning for a relaxed breakfast in the hotel and then took the short walk to Waterloo Station and onto the tube to Kings Cross / St Pancras International. It was only a 10 minute tube journey with one change and we arrived at the station at 9am. After showing our Eurostar tickets and quickly going through security, we went into the departure lounge which was packed with excited families waiting for the boarding announcement.
I have to say going though security and boarder control at St Pancras is a lot less hassle that doing the same thing at the airport. Not having to take your shoes off and being able to take your drinks with you is a great advantage.
While we were waiting for the train to board, I collected one of the Next Generation children’s activity packs for Sharon from the desk after asking if it was OK to have one for an adult.
We were on board and sitting at our seats shortly after and the packed train left London on time. We were told that there would be a delay to our arrival at DLP as the trains were running at a reduced speed due to the snowy conditions but that did not bother us as Sharon has her jigsaw and activity book and to help pass the time.
On the way there we watched Enchanted on the portable DVD player and the views out of the windows were of a very snowy landscape.
Disney had given us complimentary Disney Express Luggage Service after messing up the payment of our holiday and after we had left Ashford the CM came around with our park tickets, meal vouchers, luggage tags and hotel check-in forms.
Soon the Eurostar arrived at DLP and we waited until everyone else was off our carriage before collecting up our bags and making our way up the escalators to the Disney Express Luggage counters on the top floor of the station and handed over our bags and then we headed straight to the park.
As we took the short walk from the train station it was lightly snowing and we could not wait to get through the turnstiles and get onto Main Street USA, and what a lovely sight greeted us, a huge Christmas tree with carols playing all around us.
I had downloaded that weeks park schedule in advance so knew that today would be the only chance we would have to ride Autopia, Casey Junior and Le Pays de Contes des Fees.
So after a walk up Main Street we headed into Discoveryland and joined the queue for Autopia. We had never ridden this before as we have been put off by the very long queues for it when we normally go in May or June. But we only waited 10 minuets and DW was soon driving us around the world of tomorrow.
We then headed off to Fanstasyland to ride Casey Junior and Le Pays de Contes des Fees to find them both closed. Casey Junior had a technical problem and the Story Boat ride was closed with the covers over the boats and frozen water in the canal. I took some photos of the rehabed Beauty and the Beast castle in Le Pays de Contes des Fees and we headed to It’s a small world, which had been decorated for the Christmas season. It was so strange to come off the ride without that song stuck in your head for the rest of the afternoon.
By now it was 3pm and we were feeling a bit peckish so we headed to Pizzeria Bella Notte.
We decided quite early on in our trip planning that we would try restaurants we had not eaten in before and this one was on our list. We had a pizza, garlic bread and a winter Disneyland necessity a hot chocolate and a Mickey brioche.
We sat under the picture of Lady and the Tramp having lunch and took a few photos of the restaurant when we were leaving.
After lunch we took a walk around Bell’s Christmas village and Alice’s Labyrinth.
Then over to Adventureland for the Aladdin walkthrough. By now it was time for the Once Upon A Dream Christmas Parade which totally confused us as we were looking in the wrong direction as it started by the Main Street Station and made its way up Main Street then into Fantasyland. The toy soldiers and Farther Christmas made a nice addition.
After the Parade we walked through the Village, passed the construction sites of the World of Disney Store and the Earl of Sandwich, around the lake and over to the Sequoia Lodge Hotel. We got a bit confused by the layout as we entered the hotel via the lake entrance but finally found reception and joined the short queue to check in and chose our breakfast times all early ones.
We then collected our bags from the luggage store and headed up to the 6th floor to our home for the next few days room 6230.
Our room was nice and large with a huge king sized bed, a new flat screen TV, mini bar and a table with two chairs. The bathroom was a nice size and the sink was outside the bathroom in the dressing area. All very American, we stayed in a hotel room with this design in Cincinnati a few years ago.
The view we had was of the tree covered rear of the hotel. We had an 8pm reservation for dinner at the Beaver Creak Tavern. It had been a long day by then and after cocktails in the Redwood bar where we sat near the large fireplace it was time for bed.
