Jonesing for a Disney fix

This is SUCH a first-world problem, but since we're all on a Disney board, I'm sure you can understand & sympathize. I am suffering from HORRIBLE Disney withdrawal this year. We normally try to go every other year, and we were there last fall, so this is our usual "off" year, but with the way I'm craving a Disney fix, you'd think decades had passed since I'd been at the House of the Mouse! LOL! We typically travel in the fall because of our school calendar so all these pictures & status updates keep showing up in my Facebook memory app. (in fact, our last trip was exactly a year ago. Happy Disney anniversary to me. HaHaHa!) and it's like a two-edged sword. LOVE to see all the memories, but it really makes me wanna throw everything in a suitcase and hop on the next flight to Orlando (We live in the Midwest so it's not a simple solution of popping in for a weekend or anything like that -- not to mention the $$$ to do that). All the Halloween decorations, MNSSHP, Food & Wine ... I just miss it like crazy & I'm so sad not to be right in the middle of it all again this year.

I keep trying to console myself knowing my DD15 & I are going in the spring with the school orchestra, band & choir. It's our first time heading down there with a group like that, and they'll be performing at Disney so that's exciting, but it also means I have zero input on any of the planning, can't do meals or FPs or anything. I'm sure we're going to have a GREAT time, but it's definitely going to be a very different trip than we're used to.

Plus spring is sooooooooo far away & I want to be there NOW! (Insert stomping foot and ridiculous tantrum here. LOL!). Anyway, thanks for listening to me whine. I just needed poor my heart out to other Disney fanatics & know they understand. In the meantime, I'll just keep living vicariously through all your trip reports. :cutie:

I'm 100% right there with you! Even our time frame and trip schedule are similar! We go every other year, we went last November and I hate that I have to wait another year to get there! So, I come on here to get a fix, talk to other people, look at pictures and bide my time my DS15 and I can get back there. He's playing football now and just told me he doesn't want to go when we normally do next year because he doesn't want to miss any games. But I LOVE going in the fall!! He has some nerve not making Disney his #1 priority! haha

Totally agreed! Can't tell you how many times I've "looked at the numbers" to see if I can swing a long weekend. Nevertheless, sometimes a trip to the Disney Store eases the pain... for a day :)

Yes, a first world problem to be sure, but not a bad one to have. We are going through the same thing. From 2003 until 2013, we went roughly every other year. We lived flying distance, so it was an expensive trip. But with our relocation to Georgia in 2015, we were close enough to drive. That enabled us to buy an AP. We were SO excited knowing that when we left after our summer 2015 trip, we had 12 more months to go back over and over. We went for 6 total visits during our AP year...but it expired in July and we didn't renew. Talk about major withdrawal... Our light at the end of the tunnel is we know we're getting new AP next summer and it'll be here before we know it. The holiday season is approaching rapidly, which we do a lot for, so that'll go quickly. Then it'll be 2017 and we can really start counting down.

When WDW Withdrawal hits me I turn to our library of home videos, started in 1999 to last Oct. In fact, prior to a trip we'll pull them out to prepare the mind for what is to come. This serves to remind us of the things we definitely want to put on our to-do list and to pump up the enthusiasm. We're down to 2 weeks and we viewed a few hours of vids last Sunday.

Another Disney Fix is to start planning the next trip, no matter how long in the future it may be. As it is, since we stay at Board Walk on rented DVC points we have to commit 11 months out or the rooms will be gone. This means that a week or so after we return from one trip we're actively planning the next. We've averaged a trip a year since 1999, twice with 18 months between, twice 6 months apart. A 2 year gap would be a pain.

I am with you completely. We aren't going back until Thanksgiving NEXT year, so I am totally jealous of everyone posting their plans for this year! I wish we would go NOW.

Been keeping busy with vlogs and planning a couple of short trips close to home in the next few months.

I am with you!

We were just there in May and I don't plan to go back until Dec 2017. I just decided the other day that I have to get back sooner than that. May try a quick weekend trip in October or November. Might talk hubby into our anniversary next May . Maybe both!

Yes! Yes! Yes! You all totally get me. Thanks for being part of my support group. LOL! :grouphug:

Excellent suggestions! And you'll be there in TWO WEEKS?!?! Post frequently. In detail. Don't leave anything out. We're counting on you to get us through this, Bill from PA!!! :cool2:

How fun we have the same trip schedules. I agree, Disney in the fall is the best! And seriously, your son would pick football over Disney? Some nerve, indeed! That is just a cry for help.:rotfl:

So, your suggestion is that I move withing driving distance so I can get an AP. That might be the best advice of all! LOL! I have a friend in Tampa who has an AP & every time she mentions going to WDW for the day or a weekend, I think, "Why am I in the Midwest?!?! I could work in Tampa!" Not sure my family would agree with being uprooted, but once I explained it was for unlimited Disney trips, I'm sure they'll be fine with it.:lmao:

We went last August and I probably won't be back until 2018! It's KILLING me. We have a destination wedding to attend next year that is eating into my WDW budget.

We get through the PDD's (post-Disney-Depression) by watching volgs, reading trip reports, and planning our next trip. Our next trip is September 2017 and while we are staying in a Disney resort (DVC) we aren't doing the parks at all. We'll do Disney Springs and then SeaWorld, Discovery Cove, Aquarica and Busch Gardens. As far as vlogs, I recommend TheTimTracker, Ears2You, ThatSoundsFun, KrispySmore, and OhYeahDisney. Also, listening to podcasts helps a lot! I do The DisUnplugged, The WDW Radio Show, and Be Our Guest.

I'm not so much jonesing for a Disney trip, as we just had our big vacation two weeks ago, but I am now "without something to immeidately look forward to". I'm trying to put my thoughts and enthusiasm into the few non-Disney things we have upcoming...our trip home to see family in NY next weekend, another visit to our family in Atlanta in February, tickets to a show we have later in October...and so on.

I almost feel like the more I go to Disney, the more I miss it! Our first trip was fall 2009 and we didn't go back until late spring 2014... since then we have did 3 WDW trips and one Disneyland. Our last trip was in July of this year and I am seriously going through WDW Withdraw! I really want to do a cruise to celebrate getting my first degree in the spring, but I can't give up WDW!

To add also: One thing I'm really looking forward to is in 2018 it'll be just a mother/daughter trip. DD will be 12. My son goes that March for his senior trip so I decided to take DD. I'm REALLY looking forward to it and doing some planning so it makes me feel a little better.

We bought APs last March and have been 5 times since (we are also in Georgia), and going again for 6 nights in Thanksgiving. But I don't think we are going to be able to go back before they expire in March, and while I would love to renew, I don't think DH wants to this year. So I have no idea when we will be back after our November trip and it really makes me sad!

I completely understand. Our last trip was in April, but that might as well be decades ago...:rotfl2:

Our next trip isn't until August of next year, which seems so long from now.

Although, we just got word that ODD's cheer team will likely make it to Nationals, so we may be headed down for that in December...:cheer2:

We had annual passes for the first time starting in May of 2015. We got in 5 trips and 30 park days each on those annual passes. It's only been 5 months since our last trip ended and I'm right there with you missing WDW like crazy. I'm going down for marathon weekend in January but DW, DW5 and DS14 won't be there so that's kind of a bummer. Our next family trip is scheduled tentatively for December of 2017. That's a long way out!!!!!!

I'm soooo there with you! We went in August 2015 and are planning for August 2017. It's really been within the past month that I'm just so antsy to get through the next 11 months! I hate to just wish my life away, and we have plenty to keep busy between now and then, but its when you're in the trenches of work, school routine, and general school year craziness that you really wish you were there.

I agree though that from now until the holidays will go really fast, and then after that we're in the home stretch! ;-)

Definitely! Exactly this!

It's always worse at work!! OMG we are dead right now and I am just wishing I could plan our trip now. The weekends and days off are great and I barely think about it. Ready to retire at age 41 ;)

Goodness, yes! I have 3 projects coming in next week & I won't even have time to think about it, but right now? My work day consists of reading the Dis boards & thinking about how nice it would be to be sitting on Main Street eating a Mickey bar instead. LOL! I'm only a few years older than you & I'm absolutely ready to retire, move down there and buy myself an AP -- which seems to be the best advice I keep getting on this thread. LOL!
