Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

I follow this thread now and then, but I am clear about the people who love or hate the Gosselins....or should I say Kate???? Anyhow, I love the show and I would never judge Kate or Jon, I think that they are cool people that I could see myself hanging out with them. I was a teacher of preschool kids, now a director of a daycare center, and I am a mom myself, and I can totally relate to Kate and I think she is a riot. Who am I to judge? I don't even think about any stories about Aunt Jodi or Beth....whatever! I love the show, the kids and the parents......I'd be Kate's BFF if I could!

When I was watching last week's rerun, I was reminded of something. On some blog somewhere, it said that Kate actively pursued a television company to air their story. I take everything form the haters with a grain of salt, so I didn't really believe that. But then, the homemade videotape Kate made when she was alone with the babies was interesting. Remember when she put the camera to her face and said, "No I do not look glamorous...etc." That always struck me as a little odd, because when I make tapes of my kids, I just tape my kids. Anyway, at the very end of last week's episode, Kate is turning the camera off and saying, "Hope you enjoyed our tape!" which is not something someone would say if it was just something for their own family.

Not that it's good or bad, just an observation. I'm surprised with all of those kids and that much to do, it would even occur to her to want to have her family on television. Plus they make it sound like they were "approached." Maybe they were and they made a tape of "a day in the life."

I'm thinking about this much too much. Good thing The Office and Grey's Anatomy starts tonight!

Funny, I kind of thought Kate's comments at the end of that tape were a little odd too. Maybe it was a tape made as an audition tape to send to TLC or someother network to get some exec's attention.

Kate herself said she thought it was a great idea. She said something about their sugars being low and the kids were hot so something cool and sugary like vanilla ice cream sounded perfect. If you are going to lay some blame, it falls right on Mommy Dearest herself.

And Aunt Julie knew Jon and Kate had given the kids gum in the past, which is why she let them have some. It wasn't Julies' fault that Jon and Kate are inconsistent. A little gum on a teddy bear or sock is not a big deal. She could have handled it very differently and still got her "no gum" point across.

I've only watched the Disney episode once and don't have everything Kate said memorized yet....sorry for my oversight!! ;) Plus, while I think her meltdown was a little over the top.........I've had meltdowns when I was hot and tired over things equally as small, so I'm not going to judge Kate.

I don't know if Aunt JODI knew or not, but personally, I wouldn't have given 3 year olds gum. I know what 3 year olds do with gum and I wouldn't want it all over my house.

By every account, all this was not by accident. It is a planned product. Nothing wrong with that if it's managed responsibly.:confused3

Kate let them have gum on a "hairpane," as far as I understand that was the only time.

it was the only time that we saw (we've seen?), anyway. They could be bubble gum chewing fools and it could all end up on the editing room floor. :rotfl:

Checked out their website this morning.

On Saturday, September 20th we had a yard sale to benefit The Pediatric Cancer Foundation. We raised $1106.61 of which 100% will be donated to PCF, our favorite charity. If you would like to learn more please click on the following link www.pcfweb.org.

Oooh! I wonder if that will be a show. Trying to run a yard sale with eight children trying to pull their toys back inside and hilarity ensues! They probably hired someone to have it, but that would be a good episode!! :happytv:

Well, if Aunt Jodi KNEW the kids had gum before, why does the episode clearly show her asking the kids, "Are you sure your mom lets you have gum?" I'm sorry - the way it was presented in the show was that Aunt Jodi asked the kids if it was ok, instead of knowing anything for sure. Still think it was a dumb move on her part - the kids were 3 years old! I'm not defending the way Kate acted in the aftermath; but , IMO, Jodi is definitely not blameless here!

My take is that if you have 8 kids and there is a relative who is willing to babysit them for free, you overlook little things like non organic lollipops and chewing gum. These kids have knocked holes in her walls, and she still was willing to babysit when needed. She sits and plays with them, does crafts with them, she holds their hair back when they are throwing up, and obviously loves those kids.

So, she let them chew gum. Big whoop. A little perspective would be nice. It's gum, not cocaine.

Right on. :) Why isn't common sense common?

See in my opinion, it's common sense NOT to give gum to a 3 year old.

And, I say - RIGHT ON to this comment!

And, again, Jodi is a grown-up; if she ever had a problem watching Kate's kids, she could have declined. Or did I miss the episode where Kate holds the gun to her head and makes her do all of those things?

It was in the Gumgate episode, but you'd never have known because everyone focuses on the bear!!

I agree with you. Hell, when my sister watches my kids, I don't care what kind of crap she feeds them. :rotfl: My sister-in-law helped me out last month when I was in a jam with a last-minute babysitting call-out, and I can honestly say as long as everyone was alive at the end of the day, I wouldn't have breathed a word of complaint! I was just so grateful to have the help, FREE help at that (they won't take money).

Well I wouldn't do it, either, but it was a MISTAKE. A dumb, inconsequential, not-a-big-deal mistake. All Kate had to do was call Jodi and say, "I appreciate you so much for watching the kids. But could you please not give them gum in the future, it got on some of the clothing and Collin's bear and it's hard to get out. Thank you, and thanks again for all you do for us." That's what I would have said. Are some of you really saying you'd get THAT PISSED over such a little mistake in the scheme of things that you'd be nasty to a FREE babysitter, and a close family member no less? If so, shame on you. (Yes, I think that's crazy.)

Well shame on yo for thinking Kate should just suck it up.
It wouldn't have been a big deal if Jodi had actually kept an eye on them, but apparently she didn't and she sent them home with the gum on their clothing and toys. The least thing she could have done is cleaned it up.

Well I do care about ther crap people feed/fed my kids. Unless the are keeping/kept the kids for an extended period, I'm the one that has/had to deal with the sugar crash, allergic reactions etc.
