Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

I guess, to me, the crucial difference if Mady is a CHILD, and the others are not. For grown women to say they don't like a child, when they don't even know her, is absurd.

Oh I agree with you, I was just saying that I think some people don't view them as "real people" but as characters if that makes sense... I hope somehow the kids don't become aware of all the criticism and negativity about them and their lives...:sad2:

I am sort of new to this show, my daughter and I discovered it after watching the Roloff's when their last season ended.....So I have a quick question after reading a few of the blogs posted here

Do the Roloff's have blogs about them like the Gosselin's do? The hatred, especially for Kate, does seem somewhat justified if everything written about them is true. However, are they alone with their real life associates publicly turning on them the way the Gosselin's family/friends have?

Just wondering,

MsA

This blog was referenced a few pages back with speculation that it could be a family member. Interesting and definitely in the know.
I thought it might have been posted ... in fact, it's entirely possible I posted it. :lmao: things move so fast on this thread sometimes, though. It's easy for things to get lost or forgotten.

I find myself wishing that this particular blogger had turned off comments on this blog. They always say the same thing on other boards/blogs, and they're always started by Serena, Fiona, et al from GWoP and usually have nothing to add. LOL.

this is where a LOT of the criticism comes from - the children & their filming schedule. Child actors that portray characters are regulated by the amount of time they can work. Since the Gosselin kids aren't acting, they don't fall under the same regulations .. if I am understanding it correctly.

I agree with what you're saying - and I would sincerely hope that Jon & Kate have sheltered the children from what's been said. But, as the mother of teenagers, I know that there will come a point that they'll google themselves. It may be years from now, but Jon & Kate can't keep them away from the computer forever ... eventually, they'll see what has been said about their family & the show.

I know there is a messageboard on the TLC site for the Roloff's and I've seen a few others, but nothing that I go to regularly. Google LPBW messageboards and you'll get some hits. I think there's one that Matt posts on too but I don't remember which one. I don't think they get as much criticism as Jon and Kate but people do pick at things for that family too. They talk about how messy the house is, how the kids are lazy, etc.

Just saw "Gumgate" for the first time. Not as dramaful as I thought it would be considering all the controversy it caused.

really? that is one I did think was bad. I still do, actually. I didn't like how she treated Joel, completely disregarded his lovey .. I didn't like any of it. Not one bit.

It was Colin's buddy. She did yell at Joel too though because he was sitting on the living room floor picking gum off of his sock.

Kate did go overboard, but even with 8 kids she seems to think that kids don't get dirty. :confused3 I don't think that part of her is going to change much.

I am interested in the type of questions they are going to answer next week. Kate seemed to roll her eyes a bit/made a face when they mentioned the one question "why do you let your kids hit each other over the head so much?"

Joelgate, Gumgate, Kategate.. I can't keep them all straight :rotfl:

But the entire time, she was doing this or that to clean the bear.

In all the time people discussed the episode, I never once heard mention about Mady's portion. Kate brought her comfort item, and even though she didn't want it, it was a thoughtful mommy thing to do.

The way people wrote about it, I thought she would be slamming Jodi the entire episode. Not the case.

It was just a lot tamer than I thought it would be.

I find that to be the case for me, too. LOL.

Every now and then, I do find myself caught off guard and reacting more strongly (one way or the other) than I expected, especially after I've heard about the episode before watching.

The thing with the gumgate episode that upset me was her yelling that she was going to throw it away in front of Collin. That is his comfort toy and she was just going to toss it or threaten to toss it without regard to his feelings.

My son has a stupid beanie baby dog that he has slept with since he was 1 1/2. I would never dream of using that as punishment tool towards him. It is the one thing that he really needs to have at night for comfort and to even threaten to throw it in the garbage would be devastating to him. I would NEVER do that to him.
I think that was just cruel of Kate to do that whether she meant it or not.

While I agree it was a little mean, haven't we all had some "bad mommy moments" that we have done things in which we are not proud of? I know I have.

I know I sure have. Many I would be embarrassed to have on camera or have the DIS board use as a thread for discussion. Granted, I am not on television, but I can relate to an occasional bad-mommy-moment. In fact, I had one this week . . . :guilty: Don't ask.

I agree with you here. I'm sorry, I would have been pretty ticked off too if my sister or SIL gave my young children gum without checking with me. It was a dimwit move on Jodi's part; and just because she babysits for free doesn't mean she gets a free pass to do things without thinking.

I do think the worst part was the whole Colin/teddy bear thing; but as it has already been noted by PPs - as moms, I think we've all had those moments where we've been somewhat "heartless" in the heat of the moment! In the end, Colin did keep his bear.

I still say the whole Disney/ice cream incident makes me cringe more. But that's just me.

Oh, I absolutely agree. I think the ice cream thing was definitely more cringe-worthy.

I think the whole thing with Jodi, much like many of the other events that come under fire, was set up. Jodi wasn't just a free babysitter, she is their aunt. Family. The families appeared to spend a LOT of time together ... they seem (on the show, at the time) to be very close. Should Jodi have put of the kids with a simple, "let's ask your mom when she gets back about the gum"? Maybe. Probably. I just thought the way she led them into the whole thing ... "are you suuuure your mom lets you have gum?" And then she went along with it? I don't know. Was the gumball machine new at their house? Why, after all the times they've been there were the children asking about it in that particular episode?

Deep thoughts for 8:17am. :rotfl:

Please - let me finish my cup of coffee before you require me to have deep thoughts!!!:lmao:

(you do bring up a good point though; the more I watch, the more I'm realizing that some situations appeared to be "staged" to make things more interesting - which, I think, bugs me a little!)

whoops! sorry! I've already been up for 2 hours at 8:15am ... it's a little easier for me to have those deep thoughts.

well, it definitely bugs me. The premise of the show is following the Gosselins through their crazy life. Knowing that it's sometimes staged ... come on... I understand the need to re-shoot something from time to time, but staging things is a whole different story, IMO.

A previous poster has mentioned that the days at home shows getting boring, and that's where the need for the field trips comes in. Maybe it's time to start thinking about the yearly updates again.
