I think it is ice for clothing, you're right...peanut butter for gum in hair. I wasn't sure why Kate said "organic peanut butter" when Cara asked her about it...maybe because she felt she was wasting expensive peanut butter on gum???

Oh, I just wish I could erase last night's episode from my mind!

someone needs to tell Kate that ice gets gum out of just about anything. Does peanut butter really work? I've never heard of using that. I too felt so bad for Collin.

Mady needs more attention from her parents. That was evident last night. She was so good by herself, but once she got back home she got really fresh again.

All I can say is thank heaven nobody was filming one of my rants! Lets just say that I've been known to overreact and leave it at that. I have ranted more than once about gum, and it was banned for a very long time in my house. Cleaning it out of clothes, hair, bedding is not a fun experience. It is less amusing when you have to do it more than once.

Some situations push our buttons and cause us to lose our cool. On the other hand, I have been very calm on occasions when other people were freaking out. Sometimes I am Mother of the Year and sometimes I am Mommy Dearest. Sometimes in the same day.

Lets hope that the good times outweigh the bad and my children come through this without needing too much therapy.

I have absolutely made ridiculouse threats to my children and felt like crap after I cooled down. I would wager last night's episode would not be chosen by Kate for a highlight reel.

Last nites show really disheartened me too. I was screaming at the tv, don't call Jody, don't call. It really was a "mommy dearest" moment when Maddy handed her the phone. I also noticed that Kate does not pick up the kids or drop them off at Aunt Jody's. I wonder if the camera crew caught the person who put the hole in the wall. Makes you wonder-for someone to put that size of a hole in the wall, something had to be slammed into it pretty hard.

I agree with you totally. That is why I like this show so much. It is honest. They are showing the nitty gritty here. There is not one person here that can say they haven't said or did something that they regret later. The only difference here, is Kate's regrettable moments are shown on national tv for everyone's scrutiny and criticism.

I wish poor Aunt Jodi would get a spa day!! Beth always gets to go to those, it seems. The other thing that broke my heart was during the show about Cara's day, little Alexis kept saying, "No one likes me. No one is my friend."

I always remind myself that they only show 22 minutes of a day or sometimes a week in their life! :goodvibes I can barely handle my two dogs, much less 8 kids! :rotfl2:

I thought it was funny when one of the twins said that vitamins were packed because they could not eat organic. I don't think organic means more vitamins I think it means no pesticides. Does Kate know this???

There was more to that piece(they showed it in a previous episode). Anyway, Mady(or was it Cara??) said they had to take vitamins so they wouldn't get sick because they weren't eating organic. I guess the vitamins are meant to counteract any negative effects the pesticides would have on the kids.

Have you noticed that we are seeing less of Kate's BFF Beth? She was on practically every week a few months ago.

I was wondering that myself. you never heard about Jody very much and all of a sudden she is taking care of Kate's kids and her own 2 children.I wonder what happened between the BFF and Kate.

They've always showed Aunt Jody from the beginning...she helped when they went on Martha Stewart way back when, saw her on Oprah, she's helped on the babies b-day party, etc. And maybe Beth is busy finishing up the book...maybe we're looking into too much into it? ;) jmo

I agree with you also; I still think Kate does a pretty incredible job with all those kids. This episode was just the first time she really made me cringe - and I can only imagine how she feels watching it herself. How many times have we all done something that we wish we could take back later?

I applaud the Gosselins for keeping it so real! Nobody's perfect.

i've wondered about beth's visable absence as well. it seemed like the timing (at least the way they run the shows) happened right around when jon mentioned that he was now working for himself (his own buisness). i recall that previously they (jon and kate) were thrilled when he was able to go to work for beth's husband which was closer and supposedly more accommodating of them. i have to wonder if maybe there were some issues over how he may have left that job (bad idea to work for friends-and esp. friends that have been very helpful with so many aspects of your personal life, opening up their home to cameras, traveling with you to provide childcare). maybe the relationship has 'cooled' now that they're finished co-authoring the book:confused3

i also did'nt appreciate kate's reaction to the gum on the bear. lord knows i've lost my cool when my kids have damaged something (but moreso when it's intentional destruction) but i've never ranted to them 'kiss your whatever goodbye because it's going in the trash'). i think it was odd that the voice overs by kate were contradicting her actions ('people don't realize we can't afford to just throw things away that get damaged, i would never just throw something away'/'i threw away his socks'/'i'm throwing away this bear'. i also thought that if i were jodi there's no way i'de be volunteering to babysit when someone goes off on me like that, or rags on me on tv (on a previous episode it was about the kids getting to make the non organic lollypops, on another about giving them m&m's, this one about the gum:sad2: ).

i suspect maddie is already in some kind of counseling, j&k made a comment the other nite about how they had for a long time accepted explanations/excuses of incidents/injuries with the little ones as always being accidents and that in hindsight they should have paid more attention and addressed it, so that was why they were now taking the time to review with maddie appropriate behaviours when she went to aunt jodies. this realy sounds like something a therapist would bring a parent to realize, and suggest as a technique (but ooooh man-that poking with the pencil comment realy upset me, that's a kid whose consciously intent on hurting someone so i would not be laughing it off as kate did in the interview portion:sad2: :sad2: ).

I bet Mady was able to get away with alot more before the sextuplets were able to speak and express what happened. Maybe Hannah turned her in for poking one of them with a pencil. I wonder if Cara defends Mady when questioned (or denies seeing anything).

I agree with Kate though. You can claim alot of things are "accidents", but poking someone with a pencil is a pretty deliberate action.

Let's hope Mady's counselling works. I guess it's cheaper than military school!

I think not seeing Beth around for a few episodes doesn't have to mean anything. Could be that she is having her own issues right now or that she has been too busy to watch the kids lately.

I think Mady's behavior goes beyond needing attention. Hopefully for the sake of the whole family, this help she is getting will do wonders.

I agree. I think we have seen more of Beth this season than any other as it is. The only reason that Jody is watching the kids now is because she offered to watch the kids one day a week. That coincided perfectly with their plan to take the kids on their individual trips.

Plus, keep in mind, these episodes may be shot chronologically, but are not aired that way. There were Valentine decorations up in one of the last episodes; and the week before, they still had xmas decorations up.

I wonder if Aunt Jody gave them the gum on purpose? ;)

It must be hard for them to live walking on eggshells around her. I had a dad like Kate. It puts a lot of tension in the house, constantly worried that something will upset them.

Things that are so normal when you are raising kids are major catastrophies with her and send her into a tailspin (the gum, the markers, the ice cream at Disney). It made me cringe watching her freak out about the gum.

She needs to be in therapy along side Mady.....

I agree. I know things are tough having 8 kids and all - but regardless of the number of children you have, most moms learn VERY early on that you just cannot worry about all that small stuff.

I haven't seen the episode and now I don't think I want to!:scared1:

Anyhow, I can guarantee you that if I were Aunt Jody and got reprimanded, I would not be watching those children anymore. I think Kate has some apologizing to do. I like her, but at times she seems like a spoiled, rotten brat. Kind of like her daughter Mady. Maybe the apple hasn't fallen too far from the tree.:headache:

I have to say I agree that she went over board with the whole gum issue. I felt so bad for Colin crying when she said she was going to throw out the bear.
