Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

I, too, agree with all PPs - I generally do like Kate also and can usually justify alot of what people refer to as her "irrational behavior". But not last night! I couldn't believe the freak out over a little gum! It's not like it was in anyone's hair, or even alot of the clothes. Such a fuss over socks and the teddy bear? My heart broke for Collin - I couldn't believe how mean she was being.

How do you know she didn't throw the bear away? The last I saw it was sitting in the sink; did I miss her saying she saved it?

Also, though, I though Jon & Kate were cute during the rollerblading episode - never have seen them joke around so much.

I don't think there is anything "wrong" with Maddy, I think she just has her mom's personality.

I didn't think so either until I read a recent interview where John and Kate said they were getting Maddy help. I think having an uptight and controlling attitude is one thing, but abusing your younger siblings is another. I was very uptight and controlling when I was younger (I always had to be in charge, and I still do! :lmao:). I loved telling my younger brother and cousins where to be and what to do, but I never hit them in the head, kicked them, or wondered about poking them with pencils. That's not normal behavior and she deals with being one of eight children in a very different way than the other kids :confused3 I'd be afraid to leave her alone with the younger six because of what she does to them!

I was sad Kate was complaining about Aunt Jodi. I think she's really wonderful to offer to keep the kids each Friday. I wish Kate had just ignored the gum issue on camera. She could have asked Aunt J. nicely to have another treat, please, privately.

So, who watched last night? It was a bit much fo rme and I like Kate!! I could have yanked her silly when she was yelling at Collin about the gum and saying she was going to throw his bear away!!! That poor baby was crying, he was distraught and sad about the idea of his bear being thrown away!! Did she really think 3 year olds would say they weren't allowed to have gum? Come on Kate! I was honestly upset watching that whole thing!!!

Mady...I'd like to yank her silly too. Sometimes my 7yr old DS acts like her and I remind him of what he has said about HER acting that way. :) She was just so snotty about her special day when she came home.

Cara...so cute and seemed to LOVE being with her mom and dad.
Kate never really bothered me til last nights episode and the gum issue. I thought she over reacted and was pretty rude to Jody. Kate should be greatful that anyone is willing to watch that many kids at a time!

Oh and Mady.....good gracious that child gives me a headache. !

 Most likely. Mady needs a good punishment of some sort that is going to give her a wake up call.

I know! I just kept wondering what Aunt Jody was thinking when she watched this episode!

But, then again, I guess we all have our run-ins with family - just don't have it broadcast on television!:happytv:

No, she doesn't need punishment. She needs adequate attention and appropriate parenting to help her deal with her issues.

I agree with you, TM. She is clearly crying for attention. How would you feel if your older sister was an expert at everything she tried and you had 6 little brothers and sisters? Yes she needs to be taught what is appropriate behavior and what is not, but I hope the therapist is able to help Jon and Kate develop somes strategies so Mady gets what she needs.

I agree 100%. I used to be a big Kate fan, but that is fading with each episode.

I would have just sewn a little patch on that bear to cover the area with gum. My heart was breaking when Colin said "bear is my buddy":guilty: when she said she was going to throw the bear out.

I was upset watching that as well

That was the first episode that brought tears to my eyes. Kate may be overworked, busy, stressed. But, dishes, floors, laundry, dr appts, etc, cannot always be more important than empathy. There are times when it's necessary to kneel down to their level, and let them know you understand that their bear is a treasure, and you'll treat it that way. It really doesn't take long to do this. Even if it means telling the little one, I'll soak it now, and I'll give it back to you at dinner time. Or, as above poster suggested, just pop a patch over it, and be done.

But at the same time, Kate brought Mady's bear to the ear piercing because she thought she would be comforted by it. She understands how important that bear was to Collin. I felt really bad for him, too, but I think Kate was blowing off steam. I won't say that I have never said things I don't really mean in the heat of the moment.

Kate also made a point of talking about how the kids don't fare as well when they are thrown off their routine, and I think the same could be said for Kate on this episode. (That being said, all the trips and speaking engagements probably don't help, either).

I'm so glad I found this thread as I'm a huge J&K+8 fan! Last night's "gum" episode, though, made me cry! Poor little Collin crying for his bear was heartbreaking. I know all parents lose their temper and say things they don't mean...I just wish it hadn't been shown on TV. That was definitely a moment that should have been kept private. Poor Aunt Jodi, too; with all they do for Kate I'd be letting her do whatever she wanted with those kids. A little stuck on gum never killed anyone.

Well, it seems like she is the one that has the biggest brat issue going on. Hard to tell from just a few tv episodes here and there, but she does seem like the only child that has a continuous issue, time after time. Doesn't seem like Kate can do right for her, even when Kate is trying.

I hear ya! I honestly wonder why they aired that fit of Kate's, to tell you the truth.

Have you noticed that we are seeing less of Kate's BFF Beth? She was on practically every week a few months ago.

I haven't watched last night's episodes yet. I'm sure I'll feel bad for Colin. Mady, on the other hand, never ceases to get on my nerves.

I'm a huge fan of the show, and I'm usually pretty easy on Kate because I know I'd be a freak if I had that many kids too. Even as a Kate fan, I can admit that she acts very spoiled and entitled some times when it comes to all the help she gets from kind relatives and friends.

I was just horrified that she would openly be so mean to Jodi after all that Jodi has done for her. If my kids had terrorized someone on several occasions and put a hole in their wall, I would not complain about them giving my kids gum at all. If I had that many kids, I would be so grateful to anyone willing to watch them all at once for me that I'd let anything go. To openly be so horrible about Jodi on national television is at least extremely thoughtless, if not just mean.

Jodi is the one who also left her own family to help fly the family home from Utah without even enjoying any of the trip with them. I feel Kate doesn't appreciate what Jodi does for her. I hope there are times we're not seeing when Kate babysits for Jodi and is more gracious to her than she appears to be on the show.

I know - my daugher and I were commenting that poor Jody always seems to get the "schlep" jobs: flew back & forth to Utah in one day just to help them, but didn't get to go to WDW! And why was she the only one babysitting for these special days out. Where is Beth?

Because Jodi offered to watch the kids one day a week to help out.

Has anyone preorded their new book, "Multiple Blessings"? It's on presale now at Amazon.com. It's also co-authored by Beth.

someone needs to tell Kate that ice gets gum out of just about anything. Does peanut butter really work? I've never heard of using that. I too felt so bad for Collin.

Mady needs more attention from her parents. That was evident last night. She was so good by herself, but once she got back home she got really fresh again.
