Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread--Part 7

I'm mostly curious about the expense part... because this can't be cheap for them. Lawsuits, bringing in NBC to do an interview, etc. cost money.
I wonder if they side with Kate, because if it was them about both parents, they would really have the public against them, more than they already do, as well as the courts.

Another board says (although I have no way of knowing if it's true), that if they didn't go to court, any of the people on their shows could just drop out of the contract, and they already have advertisers lined up, and filming done, which will cost them more if they lose other shows. I guess this is to teach others, as well as Jon.

On the flip side, one could say that Kate uses the kids for her gain as well, She wouldn't live in that big house, have designer clothes and shoes or those wonderful trips either, I think both of the people are guilty of using their kids. Kate just blankets it with, I am doing it for my kids so they can have the best, well their best is paying for her best.

The flip side is that while JOn may have "used his kids for a bargaining chip, Kate "used her kids for gain. They are both equally disturbed, And at this point I dont have any real love for TLC either. I don't think anybody is goin to win in this situation.

Very well stated.. The children have been "used" for fame and financial gain by both of their parents.. That's quite a burden to place on 8 very young children..

I guess I can see how JOn may be using his kids in this case, but could you explain to me why at the end of last year, he made it pretty clear that he wanted to quit and Kate pretty much said no way, I love this. Seems to me that maybe he did want out earlier. I think TLC is turning into a big bully.

I mean Kate didn't have to do that interview, right? Was it in the contract for TLC that she "tell her story"?? I just think media is all they know and they dont act at all like 2 people who hate it.
She may have had to film. But maybe she had no objections either. They are pretty much dried up now.

Then why the agitation when others have different opinions and state them? :confused3

Could you point them out for the rest of us? Most everyone agrees the both of the Gosselin parents are acting inappropriately - in one manner or the other.. People have posted various thoughts on "why" Jon may be acting like he currently is, but no one (that I can remember) has said he was "right" or should cut him any slack for it..

While none of us are perfect parents - and I'm sure we've "lost it" a time or two - the difference is exactly what you stated above.. We didn't choose to film every embarrassing moment - put it out there for millions of viewers to see - humilate our children by filming their private moments for a television show - or put those moments up for sale on DVD's.. That's a pretty significant difference in my book..

I too am glas that the filming has stopped and I'm curious as to why TLC hasn't been able to push through their lawsuit against Jon so they can start filming the kids again.. Could it be that TLC can't win that suit because one of the two parents is refusing to allow the children to be filmed?

I guess only time will tell..

:yay: There are different levels of HATE that Kate gets on this board. The person who most likely needed a restraining order is taking a break or posting under another name.;)

Then we have the posters who accuses her of mentally abusing Jon.

Then there are those who feel she could never change or be forgiving.

Then we have those who condemn her for having help, drinking juicy juice when she said they are organic....they dissect every word said. They can let it go.

Well I have to get back to work so I'll leave it at that.

Maybe he did..but again, if he wasn't under contract, he shouldn't have re-signed. If he was, he should have thought that out better before signing. That's why it's called a contract, so both sides know if they are continuing. By the time Jon was saying, eh, not so much about the show, weren't the photo's already surfacing, and he didn't like the attention he was getting?

I just think for TLC it's fighting for their contract. This will give answers to a lot more than Jon and Kate's show. And, it does seem that if more and more people are coming to watch the family shows, it may be a win win for them. Many of us are still tuning in to this and the other shows, and alot of people who didn't used to, if we go by the most recent ratings. They must be charging a lot for the advertising.

America's Funniest Videos profits and those who win money profit.

But in your theory, the child cannot give consent, so it wouldn't really matter if profit is involved or not.

As it stands--with regulation, this program format won't end.

It's still not the same, AFV is what, a 3 minute or less snippet of a child's life? It's not the same scope of violation of privacy for adult gain even if they win a large amount of money. This show has been filmed virtually non-stop for years. AFV is a one time event. Sometimes the spirit of the law is what is important. Children cannot give consent so adult are supposed to act in their best interest. Filming kids in their home, having a show that is their life, and having that show be the parents only source of income is not in a child's best interest no matter how far you stretch it.

Sorry I don't agree. Humiliation is humiliating no matter how many people see it. A well adjusted adult can deal with embarassment from childhood with little problem. So what if millions of people saw you puke when you were 5? Do you really know that many adults that would be embarrassed by that now? I wouldn't. I would be embarrassed if I puked in front of millions of people now, but I'd get over it. I'd get over it because my parents instilled in me a good sense of humor, and enough humbleness to laugh at my imperfections. Now I am not saying that the Gosselin children will grow up to be well adjusted. I have no idea what kind of parenting goes on behind closed doors in their house. I'm just saying that the average, normal person probably wouldn't have much issue with embarrassing child hood moments being publicized. Most of us would just laugh with the rest of the world. Like on AFV! I mean my brother pooped in a JC penneys baby display when he was 4, my parents and my other brother and I told every girlfriend he ever had that story! He just laughs and says he was marking his territory. He wanted that potty seat and figured out a way to get it. You can rest assured that if any one in my family had video of that it would be on Youtube right now. My brother would probably post it!

What if your parents earned a living selling those images?

Well that didn't answer the question at all, but thanks for making the effort.. :)

Don't you just want to screm when work interferes with such fascinating conversation? LOL.. :)

I have a question:

Why does Kate allow filming in the home, on their property, on their family vacations, etc., but she doesn't allow filming of their kids at their sporting events and other school related things (I understand the school thing, but I am talking extracurriculars)?

It seems to me that in my family and pretty much everyone I have known's families, family vacations, what occurs in your house, what occurs on your property, Christmas morning, etc. is much more personal and sacred than sporting events at your playground or school. Heck, random people can watch you at a school/playground sporting event, but no one can watch you on Christmas morning I just don't quite understand the boundaries. I understand why they can't film at school. That makes sense, but why not at their kids' extracurriculars?

It's not that I want them to, it's that I think there is a double standard that doesn't makes sense. I would rather them stop filming completely and give the kids their privacy.

Maybe because it involves other people? I know at the last birthday party, when one of the twin mentioned a friend, the other twin said, shh..we don't say our friends names, or something like that. Maybe that is their down time as well. It's a good question. I wish they had asked her that.

on another nte, TLC is showing a marathon of Raising Sextuplets, if anyone wants to see another version of what will prob be K & J down the line. She's getting her tummy tuck on this show. They went Trick or treating on the last show..the one where first time it was on, I kept saying to the TV..go get that one, ther is a little cliff there, watch out that one is falling. Woah, he's in the road LOL. The one where the dad came home for a quick minute after a doctor appointment and the mom wanted him to take over feeding them. He said he got up with them in the morning, got them all fed and dressed, and he really hadn't come home to be handed the kids. He left and went back to work. Then she had him sit down to talk it out..talk about for the next year and half, he can't expect attention..boy, it all sounds so familiar. They should get out while they can.

Oh man, the mom on that show is a total "kate" in training, actually worse than Kate IMO. She drove me nuts so I only watched a few episodes of that show. :sad2:

They're on WE or Oxygen or something aren't they instead of TLC? I agree - it's great to have them outside and doing things but they were scattered every which way often it seems.

Yikes. Wow, that law firm certainly isn't wasting any time. Is it true though, that if they depose Mark Heller he can't represent Jon in the case? I thought he couldn't anyway since the PA attorney withdrew his support? I'm actually a bit frightened for Jon, I think this law firm is going to chew him up and spit him out. I wonder how Kate feels about that.

The NBC interviewer asked Kate about the lawsuit, and she said,
"Jon signed the contract"
"When you sign a contract, you are obliged then to live up to your end of the bargain with the contract."
She tilted her head, and said, "how sad that he broke his contract".

It's all semantics and it has been fun debating.

Best interest is in the eye of the beholder and noone really had issues when this show began in its first or second season. And even in its 3rd season it was fine.

So again...the consent argument does not work.

Nice try though. I'm pretty much done with this topic and am moving on now.

I thought she mentioned that she did feel bad for him though....b/c it will affect everyone (his penalties/fines for breaking the contract would come from their joint assets).

Regardless of his reasons for breaking the contract--he still broke it and you don't do that outside of a court room where a judge can exercise his powers to break the contract legally.

I have no sympathy for Jon in that respect.

I have opted to not watch the show, ever!

My reasons:

When the whole divorce debacle came out--they had Kate on NBC with her tears, then a few stories of whatever was coming out--then they had the exploitaton crap...the day after the child exploitation story, they have these two dingbats on promoting their show. And of course the mom had to say how they would make better choices than the Gosselins.

I'd say, I'll believe that when I see it--but with all the hypocracy in promoting the show. I just didn't bother.

Jon and Kate were no different than them when they started out.

You're right..it's on WE. I had to turn it off, so my mind just went naturally to TLC LOL.

The new couple are way worse than J&K were at the beginning. In one of the very first episodes the mom started bashing the dad for being "fat". She also has a very high opinion of herself and is really annoying. The dad seemed OK - I felt bad for him because a lot of the show ended up focusing on his weight. :sad2:

The mom also had no control over the kids which put them in dangerous situations. Like or hate Kate - she kept her kids safe.

I agree with you, I was just answering the persons question how Kate felt.
To me, when she made that answer, she looked like Jon ended everything and they couldn't tape anymore.

What I find is sad, and it has been discussed so many time, that Jon and Kate said every season, "if one person wants to stop taping, they will stop taping" nothing was ever said about obligations with a contract. To me, this was the biggest lie they ever told.
