Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread--Part 7

The snarkiness had been gone for awhile, but it seems to be back in full this week. We were doing so well, for so long.

Marge, I have no doubt you know two people who said they heard Kate in the church parking lot. I think you posted this on an earlier thread. I have no doubt it's true. No one said that it was editing, no one doubted it. No remarks were made that it may not have happened. I just wanted you to know that if you said it, I believe it. But I also believe there has to be something nice about Kate and Jon. Something that grabbed us to watch this show. Something that even those who hate her or him, can find nice about them. There has to be times when you have watched either of them with their kids, where you (general) could say..aww, that was a sweet moment. I don't have 8 kids..6 of them the same age. I have no idea if I would go out of my mind (but I'm thinking I would). It would be a lot to think about, organize for, worry about, save for. Surely, for those who intensely dislike them, there must be something you can judge them on, that was good.
Surely no one is all bad.
This thread is once again becoming a thread that makes me very sad. So much negativity. It can't be good for us. I'm thinking I need a time out.

:upsidedow that crazy Marge made her way back to this thread again! :lmao:

I like to think I'm a pretty typical example of what you're describing. I've never been a fan of Kate, but have been able to see the forest for the trees from time to time... every now and then, I do give Kate the benefit of the doubt and I've not been afraid to say it when I do. In fact, I try to make myself say something positive because it seems like the right thing to do, especially for the balance of the thread. LOL

I will be the first to admit that some of my annoyances over the last 15 months or so are petty. And while I'm sure I've done it occasionally, I've intentionally tried to stay away from commenting on the Gosselin's discipline or other parenting issues .. I'm certain that I'm not a perfect parent, so I have no room to comment on someone else, especially when we don't see the whole picture. We see, 99% of the time, what the tabloid media or TLC wants us to see. It's been that way all along.

Seeing her in person, talking to people who are members of the host church, too many local articles early on .. they've tainted me from ever truly liking Kate. I just can't do it. I certainly don't see myself as better than Kate Gosselin, we all have our faults.. no doubt about that.

I wonder, at the end of the day, if Kate looks around and thinks that the money and fame is worth it. And I don't mean today. I mean, when things are all said and done, will it have been worth it?

LOL. Sorry Madge. I thought you changed it.

I think you have been very fair in your posting. This could really eat a person up and become toxic to be so involved in what is, after all a TV show...even if it is real people. Their kids, their choices, even if they haven't all been good ones.

Excellent post, Madge..:thumbsup2 And so very true..

I remember a long time ago - saying that I thought Kate was very pretty; that she had a pretty smile; that I really liked her hair (not this hair - before the chicken cut - LOL); and that when she was talking nicely on the couch I really liked the sound of her voice..

I'm sure at some point in time I said something nice about Jon - LOL - but he's changed so much now I can't remember for the life of me what I would might have said.. There has been so much recent talk about his girlfriend's; his apartment; and his various activities, I'm drawing a total blank! I just can't remember the "other" Jon..

But none of that changes what has transpired with these two - what the kids have been through - or where they all are now.. As they say, "It is what it is.."

As for your final thought - I'm guessing that at some point she will realize that the answer is "no"..

Some of the things listed there were downright pathetic..:sad2:

But knowing TLC, whatever gets the most votes is what they'll use.. Anything for ratings - and the heck with how awful it makes anyone look..:headache:

I will be sooooooooo glad when these shows bite the dust - and hopefully Kate Plus 8 will bite the dust before it ever even airs..:sad2:

:rotfl2: I hadn't noticed the screen that popped up after I did the poll. It said:
Thanks for voting. The results are being tallied.

Keep watching Jon & Kate Plus 8 to see the winning moments.

As I said earlier, I'm glad I'm not her. Her bad side is always shown, her good side..well, even if she shows that, some try to make it her bad side. As I've said way back a few threads. I can't hate (or intensely dislike) someone I don't know. I can't continuously put them down and assume everything they do is evil or for money and nothing for the love of the kids. I really can't judge (without being judged by Someone higher) someone who's life I haven't lived in. I'll see where it goes once the divorce and division is over. I'll wait and see which parent really does the best for the kids, who provides the financial and emotional support. For now, I'll give them both a break and some time to heal, as well as the kids.

ITA, and I would apply it equally to Jon. But this quote from you got me to thinking about something else -- sorry, I'm on a tangent here.

In a couple of interviews, Jon said he wasn't aware of some of the articles written about him in the tabloids. That may have been a good practice for celebrities in the past, when everything was on paper and forgotten by the time somebody's kids got around to reading about it. But, in this day and age, not watching what is being said about you is pretty much the same as letting the kids watch TV or browse the internet without supervision. I think it's Jon's (and Kate's) duty to know what has been said about them, the photographs and videos that have been shown, etc. so that they will be prepared if their kids hear about it at school, or find it for themselves on the internet. This is most important when they are being quoted about their soon-to-be-ex spouse.

The other advantage would be, if Jon knew what an idiot he looked like in the tabloids, maybe he would have been more careful what he said or did, or who he was seen with, what he said about their mother. Same for Kate.

Just saying.

Regarding the busses---

I thought I had read a posting on some "hate" website where it was clarified that in PA--private school students are entitled to free transportation paid for by the state.

So it is possible, they do not have to cover that expense.

Well that is an awesome perk for a private school.

When my DS went to private school, it was $600 a year. AND they did not pick up at our home...we had to do exactly like Kate...go to a public parking lot. We had to go soooo early as the bus stopped in many towns. Same for the return...it was always late coming home.

Books, uniforms and lunch were all very costly additional items. DS' lunch was $5.00 a day.

Wait, Lisa..what do you mean by a HATE website????

I could have just as easily added Jon's name to Kate's. I do think they need to have some responsibility over what is in the tabloids..if what is in there is true..not much they can do about the lies. If only they would both lay low. I found it hard to believe when Jon said he wasn't aware of the articles..and nothing has changed now. His speech on the couch about being so public led me to believe he knew what was being reported. I think if it's not an article that says he's a jerk, he enjoys them, based on his talk about the paps.
I don't think Jon realizes (or Kate) that people do believe this stuff..real or not. Could they be that stupid about this?

Wait, Lisa..what do you mean by a HATE website????

There is a J&K hate website that I have blocked from my memory. Probably praising Jesus and company that they personally saved the kids.

As for PA it is a state law--and it seems--as someone posted...10 mile radius I guess.

I went to a public magnet school in New Orleans and had to pay for bussing--in the city, schools do not provide bus service (well--when I went they didn't). So I took a charter bus.

Maybe this is a stretch, but does anyone else think TLC could have paid for school? Would it be like the same thing as studios paying for actors to be taught on set?
I don't know, and don't want to be taken as fact. Just something to ponder.

I'm not sure we'll ever know exactly what TLC has paid for in regards to non-monetary compensation. That is outside of clear donations from advertisers and such.

Without it coming from TLC, Jon, or Kate--it's all just rumor anyway.

More annoying than Jon & Kate is the "poster" who feels they have to disect everything shown, written, televised, recorded and constantly repeat the same old stuff over and over again.
I think this poster is having problems dealing with this show ending than the main characters. Its too bad this poster can't except that the majority of tv viewers are looking out for the kids. The best thing that could happen is to get these kids out of the limelight.
I don't know the age of this poster but my guess is 100 because the said poster has experienced or knows somebody who experienced anything that is written here!

Sorry, but enough is enough!!!

:confused3
Aren't you the first person to complain about personal attacks?
Can we please keep this thread peaceful.

Pregnancy hormones, I guess. Only 1 though--not 6.

Oh..phew, Lisa, I am glad you cleared that up!!! :rotfl:

Me too, LoraJ, what's up, mousey? :confused3

Only three people could personally save the kids...Kate, Jon and TLC. but, maybe now we can get laws that afford kids on reality shows the same protections that child actors get. (hours filmed, their welfare, and monetary regulation) That is the main issue. I still think the PA labor dept does/did have something on TLC and I hope it comes out if they found something.

Of course she couldn't possible have been doing what many of us do..looking at the cost and trying to make a fair decision. I have no idea if they got a scholarship or assistance, but you better beleive I always filled out everything I could so my kids tuition (college and private school) could be lowered. If someone qualifies (for whatever reason), they should.
I have always seen where K & J get things paid for when they were taping, isn't that to be expected? Just like all the other reality families out there doing placements and gathering money while their families work? I can't beleive none of you think Kate worked hard to get what she did for her kids financially. It's terrible that it turned out this way, but I think it would have even if they went on welfare..only sooner. It almost sounds like..well like some people are jealous (general people, not refering to who I quoted). Almost sounds like if you (general you) couldn't get it free, she shouldn't either LOL. I'm jealous of those who pay way less than I do on groceries, by shopping around, and using coupons. I'm too busy (and lazy LOL) to do the same, but I don't begrudge you. You work for the discount, you get it. Good for you!

I have heard her often. In almost every speech she has given. Most interviews when she was on TV with the kids.

One ice cream meltdown, one gum incident, and one comment about helping babies (and of course we didn't like how she talked to her husband LOL). Then, even if she does nice things, it just doesn't matter. Only the bad can be remembered. Yep, that's what did her in. It doesn't matter what she does now. Not a lot of forgiveness in this world nowadays :(

I wouldn't want to be her.

ITA! :thumbsup2 I think both Jon and Kate work hard to provide for their family and have "real" jobs. They might not have ordinary jobs but they do have jobs. For example, let's use the camping gear they got. Their job was to use it and promote it. Just because their job duties are easier than the factory worker who help manufacture the tents, it doesn't make their job less real. Some people are just luckier, work smarter, etc.

ITA! If I was the sponsor of these shows who did the organization, green episode, kitchen remodeling, crooked houses, etc....I would go take my products back. Grateful, not a chance. Every appearance she has made comments follow how hard she is to work with, demanding, could it be all these people are liars??

I really doubt any of the sponsors care if Kate is grateful. The crooked houses, kitchen remodeling, etc. were not done or given to the Gosselins as charity. It was a business deal that was beneficial to both parties. Example, the kids got crooked houses and the Crooked House guys got bombarded with so much business and interest after that episode aired, their website couldn't handle the traffic.

Excellent point, hbkfan! :thumbsup2
