It's not clear whether TLC would restart the show should Jon change his mind about filming the kids.

This is the troublesome part. They are not on because Jon pulled the plug. The plug he could put back in if it suits him, or the money runs low. The show wasn't actually canceled. I don't trust this quite yet.

I just think that how ever you feel about Jon, Kate, he said she said, etc - - I think it's a good thing for those kids that they are no longer going to be doing a show in the midst of their parent's very nasty divorce. I know Kate says the kids love doing the show, but I really feel in the long run it's much better for them to hopefully go back to a normal life. But I guess we'll see if that happens, huh?

What I wonder now is how they are going to make money. Isn't Kate coming out with a cookbook? What is Jon going to do for income? Whatever they end up doing, I find it hard to believe they're going to have the same level of income as when they did the show. Perhaps they shouldn't have bought that giant house they now have a giant mortage on.

First, in the short term, I think they will both write a book. They would probably each get a pretty decent advance. I think Kate will continue to do speaking engagements and maybe really get a show. With Paula Deen or something on TLC. I don't know about Jon. He doesn't like the speaking engagements and he isn't good at them and I can't picture him doing a TV show really either. He might show up on Celebrity Fit Club or "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here" one day or something like that. It's going to take a few years to see where it really goes though.

I really hope that isn't the case. Those kids are individuals and need to be invited seperately to do things with their friends. That is good for them. Takes away some of the dependence they have with each other.

As for the show ending....it's about time. I dont care how/what happened in order to make it happen. I'm just glad it's done.

Now which family is TLC willing to ruin now. Any bets?

My DD loves staying up late too, but I know it's not good for her. It's my job as her mother to decide what's best. So, for me, what the kids think about doing the show might be irrelevant. But IMO, Jon was telling the truth in the first ET interview when he said the kids want to do the same things as their friends -- would the kids choose doing the show over all the other opportunities they will now have? Nobody has asked Kate that question.

And I agree with you about the income thing. It just blows me away how much money this family spends. They now live in a house that costs almost $1 million more than their old one. Together they contribute $15,000 per month towards household expenses, and if you believe Kate's lawyer it's not enough because she spent, apparently, a lot more money on the kids and the house over the summer. And at the time, the nannies, landscaping, etc. were being paid for by TLC (I need to go back to that interview where Jon listed off the expenses they paid for )

And on top of those expenses, they each have another place to live, their own vehicles and other living expenses. It just seems crazy to me.

Having said all that, I would support them choosing to use some of their savings to cover the kids' living expenses for a while, since IMO maintaining their extravagant lifestyle is not enough reason to continue living off their kids. The money from Multiple Blessings alone (reportedly $1 million) should be enough to get them through at least the first year.

While I don't put much credence in anything she says, she is now also saying that she sent an email to Kate while she was working for Jon

We're all waiting for Mady's book. Should be out in about 11 -12 years. I'm actually waiting for Cara's. I think it will be more siliceous. They always said if the kids don't want to be filmed then they go to a friends house. You always saw Mady, rarely saw Cara! I also think her book will come out when she's in her 30's. That seems to be the age that you need to take a hard look at your childhood and come to peace with it.

For goodness sake...I know of a family with 9 kids in a little cape cod with the mom being a SAHM and the dad has a nice job in mahufacturing. the top floor of the cape cod is all open is one huge bedroom for the boys and the first floor has 2 small bedrooms, one for the daughters in bunk beds and one for the parents. The basement is finished and that is where they hangout. the kitchen isn't huge, but between that and the dining room, they can all eat at the same time. They don't have a bunch of "stuff" because they don't have room (or money) for extras...but the kids are all big into sports and they spend most of their time outside playing and going to their games.

It is just ridiculous how much the Gosselins spend. And they think it is all necessary and they are entitled to it. Disgusting really. It's not like they even need to save for college. It would be so doable to raise those kids on a normal income. They won't have gardeners, but with a smaller yard, that isn't a big deal. They won't have nannies, but if kate stops running off to NY everytime she needs to go on a talk show to complain about Jon...they won't need that either.

What is sort of sad is that would be a more interesting reality show. One where we were watching how Kate had to scale back and actually live off a small amount of money with the kids. We would actually enjoy watching that and it could be inspiring (if she actually became humble that is). But, of course that is how these greedy two started out...and it would never be enough.

My favorite idea for a reality show for Kate would be for her to take that job at McDonald's that she was talking about. The kids wouldn't have to be on the show. We could just watch and see how Kate handles that job. WOuldn't that be a happy little show?

On top of that, during an interview ( I think on Today) she said that she took $100,000 from the account on the advice of her lawyer but then put it back. She said that they slit it and that Jon got $50,000 to do with as he wanted and that she got $50,000. She said that she spent her $50,000 on bills and expenses for her children. That's A LOT of money to be spending on bills and the children in a relatively short period of time.

I think it's pretty obvious that neither one of them "want" to change their lifestyle, but you know what? Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans.. Stuff happens - things change - and either you adjust, or you sit around and whine about it - in this case, on tv shows; in interviews; etc.. What do they hope to accomplish with all of this whining? Do they think someone is going to start a "Feed The Starving Gosselin Children" fund?? I think there's an awful lot of people out there who would give their right arm to have it as "financially tough" as the Gosselin's claim to be having it right now..

Your post made me wish the Gosselins could go back to living in the old house.

Me too -- it must not include the mortgage payments or the kids' school tuition, since I think they would have said that right from the start. Using just Kate's figures, it sounds like she spent an extra $105,000 just between July and September (and I have really, really tried to be charitable to Kate -- even factoring in the $45,000 that they put into the account to pay for household expenses, if that is included in the $55,000, I still end up with a whopping $60,000 that she says she spent on the kids)

And I really don't know about the $100,000. In a written article, she stated that she withdrew $100,000 around the time she filed for divorce, and that was split with Jon, but it also sounded like she "emptied the bank account" (those are the words from the article, if I recall correctly) after the first meeting with arbitrator, and had to put that back. so I don't know -- are we talking about 2 withdrawals or just 1?

ETA: even listening to the Today Show interview, it's clear that she was talking about 2 withdrawals

Kids never had friends over to swim in the pool. The only people that got to enjoy it were Jons girlfriends.

We have no idea if they had friends over, since the pool was seldom shown. We do know that little boy was there swimming..or at least he was wearing a wet bathing suit in one of the rag mag pics. We really don't know a lot about them on non filming days. Pictures of friends could have been off limit. At one of the birthday parties a friend that was coming was mentioned and one of the twins told the other to shush, they weren't supposed to mention their friends names on camera.

You get a discount for paying in full and don't have to worry about monthly payments for the rest of the year. Now granted, I have one child in parochial school so my bill is MUCH smaller.

I hope that you're right -- but as I said, I'm pretty sure they would have just said that if that had been the case. I've seen enough of these parents being dragged through the mud -- making all of this public is going to hurt the kids far more than they think.

I just hope neither one of them has to do jail time.

We used to pay our kids off in advance as well.

The only objection I have to K & J buying their beautiful home, is that I assume they knew by then the marriage was in trouble. But we don't know, maybe they thought that would be helpful. Just like others, when they bought it, they could afford it. When my girlfriend bought her beautiful home both her and her husband had great jobs. Her husband has been layed off through no fault of his. Their cirmcumstances have changed. The house will not sell for what they paid for it at this time. K & J's circumstances have now changed, so I do hope they make changes as well, but I'm not ready to cruicify them for the money they have spent, without knowing the circumstances..of which it is really none of my business. Other than the house, I really haven't seen them (when together) totally spend more than I would expect anyone in their situation to spend. That said, now is the not the time to buy fancy cars, or anything expensive. I have no idea why Kate would have taken the money out that she has to show, but then I also have no ideas what bills have popped up, or how much the lawyers are, etc.

I think I'll give her a break on this, not knowing more, at this time.

Good call on the Celebrity Fit Club - I can see that as well.

I just can't imagine either of them getting "real" jobs at this point. First there is their noteriety, and second, who would hire those wackos?!
