Yeah, and Kate doesn't spank???
Please don't put words in my mouth. Of course she spanks..we all know that. I don't like that type of punishment no matter who does it. I detest blanket training more, although I don't care for anything that uses hitting.

That said, if we did see the punishment the Duggars use, I wonder, as i said, how this conversation would be going. We conveniently don't see it.

I brought this same point up pages and pages ago. The very early Duggar shows were different than the current series... it's almost as if this Duggar family is just a distant cousin of the family we first saw. Maybe not all of the time, but sometimes.

:thumbsup2 I can't argue with anything you said Madge.

I do have to say, in case it got lost in the shuffle..it's time to stop this show (J & K). It's become a grown up battle, and because of that, IMO, the show has lost it's fun and usefulness. I would not be saying that, if J & K were still getting along and had a stable marriage. I liked the show, I never thought it was harmful to the kids. I thought they got great opportunities (kids and parents). I still loved the last few shows. But it's not about the shows anymore. It's about what is happening in real life. Perhaps they'll be back in some form when it's settled, maybe not. I hope Kate does get a great TV job, because IMO, I think she'll end up being the more responsible parent and with this many kids, she'll need more income than savings, especially when the lawyers are done getting their cut.

I don't agree with the Duggar's forms of discipline, whether TLC shows it or not.

In fact, I've mentioned on this thread before that TLC edits the Duggars. Whether or not it's as much as the Gosselins, we'll know.

The Gosselins and the Duggars are as different as night and day, IMO. The only similarities are that they each have large families, they've used that for financial gain/TV show, and they're on TLC.

this was necessary, not.

Well then I guess no one will be thrilled to see me back here again either and read what I have to say..:rotfl:

I just popped back in to say exactly what you did, after a long absence from this thread..

I'm thrilled to see that "J&K Plus 8" is ending and I'll be even more thrilled if TLC is blocked from going forward with "Kate Plus 8".. :thumbsup2

I don't give a rats behind "how" or "why" it came about.. It's LONG overdue..

Time for the parents to support their kids - rather than the kids supporting their parents..

No, you miss the point. While I agree the Gosselin kids were to young for a mission trip.....Jon and Kate aren't too young. They left their kids for things like tummy tucks, and how could any of us forget how they left 8 kids very sick with the FLU with Aunt Jodi who already has FOUR kids so they could go get Jon hair transplants for free. SO they couldn't leave the kids for a little volunteer work??? uh-huh. They could have at least taken the little guys for a park clean-up day or SOMETHING to bring attention to volunteer work. THAT was the greater good of the Duggar trip, not just what the kids could accomplish while there, but that they used thier show to bring attention to need in the world.

ALso- that hairplug episode was on today, and I thought it was HILARIOUS how instead of singing Jodi's prasies for taking on 8 more in addition to her own 4- Kate said that she thought when Jodi and Kevin had her 8 (in ADDITION TO THEIR OWN 4) that it made Jodi and Kevin AMAZED that Jon and Kate do that every day....then pan to Jodi who says that taking care of the 8 after having 12 was NOTHING!!!! That it was really easy!!!!! :lmao::lmao:I loved that!!! Made Kate look like a selfish idiot (as usual) BTW did Kate ever take on Jodi's 4 in addition to her own 8???? UMMM .. No. Never. In fact I think Jon implied that would be like "illegal" although it was ok for Jodi and Kevin.... Made me wonder.. Did Jon and Kate ever watch thier own show and go "wow. we are ungrateful jerks that never return a favor"

ITA!!! The kids are too young for a mission trip, but don't you think Kate's experience with being a nurse would make her a great candidate for a medical mission trip. Oh, but she would rather go to the SPA with Mikey from Orange Cty Choppers. Jon did a great job clearing the land for the "crooked houses" and seemed to enjoy using his tractor--he would be great to have along on a mission trip to help clear land, etc...oh, but he would rather go host a pool party in Las Vegas.

I agree that TLC brought out the greed in in the Gosselins. Just like the Harlem Globetrotter episode where Cara was called out on the court and ended up with a basketball. It wasn't 5 min. later Kate was repeating over and over, what you do for one you do for all--in otherwards, give everyone of my kids a basketball. The meet and greet wasn't enough for Kate, she wanted more. This is what makes this family come across so ungrateful!

Does it matter who paid for the toys? They went and picked them out and wrapped them. It was a learning experience for the kids, just as the El Salvador show was for the Duggars. No money out of either pockets. And the books were not given to the little kids. Toys were.

Actually, Kate did hand out copies of her book Multiple Blessings, a lullaby CD and DVD's of J&K+8 to the sick kids. Small kids. That's ridiculous, those little kids don't give a hoot about Kate's book or CD. Many probably haven't even seen J&K+8. I think it does matter who paid for the toys, how are J&K 'giving back' if K-Mart or TLC is paying for it? If TLC is paying them to do that show, to fly to Memphis?

Welcome back C.Ann! I missed you and your comments. ITA---I'm glad the show is ending too!!! I can't see Kate plus 8 taking off either. J & K have no talent and hopefully they can find jobs like normal people.

Uh..I doubt many here would have wanted to see a show with just Jon and Kate. We complain when that happens LOL.

That's also not the type of show TLC had set up for them. I'm sure she would be good as a nurse, and if Jon could find a tractor in a third world country he could use, so would he, but this show was never meant to be the Duggars. It was K & J plus 8 kids.

:lmao: Doris, that is hilarious!!

I'll have to watch it again. I saw her handing one to a nurse and an older person. I guess I was too caught up in the actual joy of the kids they were visiting.

How is anyone on these shows giving back if they aren't paying? It's a TV show..the kids were little, but they did help pick out the toys, wrap them and deliver them. Could the show just not be about showing the kids how to help others?

Boy, we are sure back to being picky. I liked the show where she went to the hospital. You obviosly didn't. So I guess that makes Kate a bad person, because she didn't pay for everything. She obviously wasn't moved by anything she did in this show and gave nothing back by going to see the kids. Because you say so.

This has been such a nice thread, even with so many of us disagreeing with each other.

It won't be long before you see the books and dvd's at the dollar store. I just saw one of Dr. Phil's relationship books there. Not one cent came out of the Gosselin's pocket for the toy giveaway. The only thing they did was pose for the camera.

I'm glad the show is ending too!!!

So, is the show ending? We know that for sure? Or do they just have enough footage right now to go through November? As I said earlier, I'll wait and see how it plays out.

I am going to agree with you redrose, I believe Jon still loves Kate! I mean after all they went through as a young couple, then to first have the twins, then the 'tups...come on...I just really wish (and I know it does not seem possible) that all this would just END...K&J come together for the kiddos and themselves and move on with their lives as one big happy family.

As far as Jon's statements of not being afraid to work...he has NOT worked in a while, 8-6pm, he has been all over the country and France, enjoying life to the fullest...how can he say he is not afraid to work and then try to fit time in with the kiddos when he is living in NYC...? What company will hire him anyway with all the "baggage" Jon will bring with him...? Will he wear his $950.00 shoes to his IT job? I think he is soooooo regretting what he did with pulling the plug on the show...the gravy train has dried up...:confused3

I think this too & have all along. I still say he is on something. It could be a prescription or he is self medicating. I think he will get off it at some point & be like WTH. I have seen this happen before.

And doing this show brought no awareness to the hospital and the sick kids? Nothing good came of it? Nothing? The only way this episode would have had any meaning was if K & J actually paid for the toys? I'm not sure if that is what you mean.

So, when I serve at the mission, since I didn't prepare and pay for the food, it means nothing? Or isn't that what you meant?

.

Doris, are you upset with me? I hope not. I thought we were just debating back and forth and I certainly am not trying to annoy you. :goodvibes

I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree here. I did think it was wonderful that St. Jude received some attention. A friend of mine's 4 year old little girl was diagnosed with a brain tumor (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, always fatal and kids only live 12-18 months on average) She passed away 2 years ago after a 7 month battle with this tumor. She went to St. Jude and received her treatments there. Seeing them showcase the hospital was a great thing IMO.

Could be.. I know when I emailed the publishing house for her cookbook that was due to come out this fall (to voice my opinion in regards to the hypocrisy of the content - in light of the divorce announcement - as well as other issues) they responded that "the publication was being placed on hold indefinitely".. That was shortly after they announced their divorce on national television, so I don't know if it's still on hold, if they went ahead and published it, or if they ditched the idea entirely..

No, I'm not upset with you at all. I guess I'm just so surprised when people say, they showed an episode for a show..when, uh, it is a show. All the reality shows with the kids are just that, shows. Shows where they earn money.
I'd like to think some good came of TLC showcasing St. Jude's. I'm always surprised that even when Kate and Jon do something nice, fault is still found with them. For the millionth time, we are only seeing a small bit of their lives..the bits TLC wants us to see. Maybe Kate hugged lots and lots of kids that day, made them feel special. If a child did get one of her books, maybe that was a gift they could give to their mom. Why couldn't anything in the show be about something good (this isn't to you..it's just in general).
Even bringing in money for pediatric cancer is wrong..she should have sent all the toys to the city mission, where they over charge instead of working hard and having an all day garage sale. Was it staged..of course it was, it's a TV show. But her and Jon said they do it yearly..maybe they would have done this one even if it wasn't taped. I don't know..the last day or so just seems so picky to me.

I don't doubt that Jon is on anti-depressants, probably Kate is too. And he said in the ET interview that he is seeing a therapist (first time we've heard that he's seeing one now -- maybe that's where the "epiphany" came from). Actually, I think he's already had the WTH moment, just not the one you're thinking of. And if seeing a therapist and/or taking anti-depressants makes him stop doing reality shows (including Michael Lohan's plans), makes him think about going back to work instead of living off his kids, etc., I wouldn't want him to get off them. Maybe the problem over the summer was that he was off them, and not seeing the therapist.

But I also don't think he'll ever go back to being the plastic preppy guy that Kate wanted him to be. IMO, he seemed proud to be taking the kids off the show when he did the LKL interview, not at all like the person who was crying in the Chris Cuomo interview when he said he should have stood up for his kids. Maybe he'll drop Hailey and all of the other stuff, but I don't see him going back on these choices. And IMO, Kate will hate him even more for that.

It was interesting when he was on the Insider with Donny Osmond -- Donny Osmond asked Jon if he still loved Kate and Jon said "no way" not like that, he loves her as the mother of his children. When asked if Kate still loved him, he said "NO WAY!" I think he's right about that, since Kate said she wouldn't even talk to him on the phone unless he was the old Jon again.

But IMO, he still needs us. Do you still have the message for the email? I'm going to try to find an address. :lmao:

She said at some appearance the week she did The View (somebody will have to remind me where it was) that the cookbook was ready to publish and she expected it to come out next year. But...she's writing a new book as a sequel to Multiple Blessings that will chronicle this part of their lives. :rolleyes1

from RadarOnline:

Jon Gosselin has told the network they no longer have his permission to film the children and TLC will not challenge that. If Jon changes, his mind, they will go into production on the new show, Kate Plus 8.
