Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread--Part 7

has this been confirmed through any of the more well-known entertainment sources? I'm a little (ok, a LOT :upsidedow) skeptical of this one ... at least at this point in the process ...

Nope -- not yet. And you know I've been looking for it. But given the legal issues ie. how Jon was able to stop the filming, this could remove the roadblocks. If she's not doing it, I'm sure it has been considered.

Either that or move back to the old house -- obviously TLC got a release for them to film at the old house (it was noted in their petition) but since they didn't draw up a new contract in Feb. (TLC just exercised their option for season 5) they may not have updated that section. I think that's how Jon's cease and desist order worked, actually.

I work at Famous Footwear! She came in to the store I worked at right before they went on their Disney trip for sandals for Jon and herself. That was obviously forever ago. Yesterday she was at our Harrisburg Famous Footwear buying Fergalicious boots. My friend and I who also works for Famous Footwear were there visiting the other manager when in walked Kate. We were actually helping her decide on what boots to get. She was pretty nice and was laughing and joking around. When we asked if we could take her picture she pulled out pictures from her purse that she signed and gave to us. The pictures included the whold family and Jon. We have also seen Kate and the kids at Cocoa Castle (big huge playground that they were at on one of their shows). Oh yeah, and we did not have to pay for her autograph!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2
Seriously? What was she like? Did you have to pay for your autograph?

Kate figured out a way to get around Jon's cease and desist order -- she's buying a new house and TLC is helping her:

I don't understand how that will help, they still can't film the kids......they need his permission to film his children as long as he has partial custody at least.

No way she will make him lose custody...omgosh, I could try that case and win and I'm not a lawyer...all you would have to do is show the judge a few episodes of the show and anyone could see that Jon is the one that took care of the children and did everything for them.

I doubt that a judge would look at a TV show that shows Jon spending 10 minutes bathing kids and putting food on their plates once a week, and give him custody. I assume Kate would also show the part on tape where Jon said he was happy to not be at home with all the kids and when she did crafts with them, did their hair, organized things like the Christmas singing thank you's after making cookies, and also fed them. On the edited show I saw, they both spent time with them, but I have no idea by watching the edited show who spent the most. When Jon was working, I would assume it was Kate. When she was off promoting, I would assume it was Jon. I would hope a judge would look at a lot more than a few minutes of edited tape, before deciding on 8 kids futures.

Legally, the only thing that stopped the filming was Jon stating that TLC could no longer film at the house -- I suppose TLC felt that the show needed those scenes for the show, so that is why filming stopped.

And although TLC admitted that they had an agreement with their parents that if either one felt that filming was detrimental to the children they would stop, they also questioned the sincerity of Jon invoking that clause ie. it sounds like they're going to make him prove it.

I can't find the link now (it's somewhere back in Thread #6) but sometime back in the summer, Kate's lawyers put out a statement that she was filing for full custody of the children and that they would use footage from the show to prove their case. We didn't hear any more about it, so there's no way of knowing whether they meant the episodes that were aired or the stuff on the cutting room floor. Even if they continue with the joint custody arrangement, it is possible that the kids will be allowed to continue the show on the days that Kate has custody but can't be forced to do the show on the days that Jon has custody -- just like in the Charlie Sheen case.

ITA with this. We don't really know what their lives were like when the cameras were turned off. And if Kate does still try for full custody, a lot of it will come down to what witnesses say about how each parent interacts with the children -- likely the children will have to testify as well.

:rotfl:Jon did everything for the kids? Like he is now? NO Way. Jon always has a nanny with him. He only did things if Kate made him help.

Well, you know we'll see a photo of her in them and we'll critique them heavily. ;)

Cool. What are Fergalicious boots?
Nice to know Kate was nice to you.

I agree, if you look back at the episodes prior to the break up it was always Jon (at least on the show) who gave the baths, breakfast (because she isn't / wasn't an "early" person) got the older two on the bus (even when he was working I believe).

Can anyone forget the driveway playing of yesteryear and the plastic white chair Kate was always sitting on.

That's the way I read it too. I'm also wondering whether TLC stopped filming, took some time to regroup, and is coming back fighting.

And although TLC admitted that they had an agreement with their parents that if either one felt that filming was detrimental to the children they would stop, they also questioned the sincerity of Jon invoking that clause ie. it sounds like they're going to make him prove it.

Yes. This action by TLC surprises me, because it opens the door to a whole lot of "expert testimony" regarding the well-being of the children -- if Jon continues to say that the children are being harmed by it and decides to fight it in court. It seems a PR nightmare for TLC and I can't quite figure out why they are pushing so hard to keep Kate & 8. They have other families in the wings.:confused3

I remember that too, and wondered why anyone would want to open that can of worms in court. I'm sure a lot footage can be shown which doesn't flatter either parent.

If Kate does still try for full custody and if Jon decides to fight it and ask for full or partial custody himself. If he walks away just asking for occasional visitation then it is comparatively simple. If he decides to fight, again a can of worms where the children will probably be evaluated re. mental health status, interviewed by the Court, etc.

I don't think this is a case where full custody will necessarily be automatically awarded to the mother. Also, Jon does have evidence that he was the primary parent in the home for a lot of time last year. You only have to look at the list of Kate's speaking engagements to see that. She was all over the country with the book promotions and speaking gigs.

What a train-wreck this is.:sad2:

Well, that's your opinion. But I can't see Kate using a hammer at all, and then there would be all the dust, and probably rodents and bugs. :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I did this for a living years ago. We would completely remodel a home from top to bottom and all work was done ourselves, no contractors....very hard work and lots of hours. I don't believe Jon or Kate would tackle something like that. Kate hates getting dirty and Jon is lazy.

So location is the only thing in TLC's way? Makes sense. I do remember Jon stating that they can each do as they please on their custody days.

Agreed. They both took care of the kids and each had given tasks. Personally, I don't think Jon deserves a medal for simply giving his kids a bath. He is the father. Why does the mother have to do everything? Seems to me they had a system going and both worked at it.

Usually a child only testifies in divorce cases or in the judge's chambers when they are at least 10 years old, ideally they are more like 12. I don't believe we will hear about any of the Gosselin children going to court, they are too young.

Did she pay for the boots herself or did she instruct you to send the bill to TLC?:rolleyes1

I hope they didn't take her check! ;)

It's nice she found money for boots, with all the bills she can't pay and the hungry kids and all. :) ;)

I think the cease and desist was for all filming, b/c otherwise I believe TLC would be currently filming on Kate's days, just off the property. Jon said TLC could not film his kids anymore, and they are still married. Maybe it does change when they divorce.
