Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 6

If Kate was getting overdraft notices (which would have been in the mail) then the money would have had to have been withdrawn earlier. Many of the tabloid articles make it sound like it was taken out the day of the LKL interview.

That's what I'm thinking. There's no way that Jon could have withdrawn that money on Thurs. Oct. 1st, done the Larry King Live interview and then on Friday Oct. 2, Kate got overdraft notices and had her lawyer (that same day) write the warning letter. Something isn't adding up. Either Jon did it earlier in the week or this is all just a way for Kate to discredit Jon's lawyer. It did say that his lawyer had been in trouble for misconduct in 1994. I agree, the tabloids are making it sound like Jon withdrew the $, did LKL and then Kate found out that they're account was drained. This story smells very fishy to me.

so don't you only threaten and not file when you can't back it up?

I had a little incident over the summer where an attorney sent us an email threat (the nasty letter). The info in it was incorrect and we didn't even respond to it or stop what we were doing! Nothing ever came of it.

It was regarding a neighborhood right of way issue, and I knew I had done nothing wrong. that was the first time that ever happened to me, and I freaked a little, but soon realized it was just a threat to scare me (which it did) but they had no claim against us!

Let's wait to see what they file tomorrow.

Technically, isn't this what Jon and his lawyer did too? They only sent a letter to TLC but have yet to file anything with the courts. I always thought a warning letter (not sure what the legal term is) was always sent first. This way people can try to work things out or settle and avoid the costs of a trial or other legal procedures if an agreement can be made. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

My bank gives the option to sign up for notifications via email. I can set it up so that they email me if an overdraft notice is posted to my account, a certain amount is withdrawn, etc. Maybe Jon and Kate's account offers that too.

Are we sure she can only get them in the mail? I know my bank will email you overdraft notices.... just saying...

I don't know -- like I said before, our banking system is different than yours. Just going by what previous posters have said. We can get everything done electronically here too, but an overdraft notice wouldn't contain transactions from the previous day.

Technically, isn't this what Jon and his lawyer did too? They only sent a letter to TLC but have yet to file anything with the courts.

It was my understanding from what they said in the press release and in the interview that they had served notice to TLC that they were not to film at the house, and that based on the rules of property law in PA that that was all that was necessary.

Wow -- you seem to know a lot more about cars than I do (but then again, most people do :lmao:). I do know, however, that the Mercedes SUV is leased, as was (apparently) the last car. And he is renting only 1 parking space in NYC (there was a big story about that)

So, are you saying he still owns all of these cars? Because, IMO, you can only drive one car at a time.

Your scenario would work except that Kate is apparently like that with everybody, not just Jon. If you haven't read it, you should go to the link about the charity fundraiser with the skaters, which was just last weekend and Jon was nowhere near it.

But I do agree with you that Kate probably thought she could change Jon, and she nearly succeeded in turning him into a preppy guy who would never go snowboarding. But IMO, unless somebody really wants to change (for example, they want to be a professional so the wife convinces him to go to college) it never really works out in the end. People aren't happy being somebody they don't want to be. Kate should have married the kind of man she wanted in the first place, because it obviously wasn't Jon.

I'll agree with you 100 % on that one!

I did read the article on the skating show. A lot of said it was TLC keeping people away..although it did say her body guard kept that Nikki person away. BUT was the body guard under orders from Kate or TLC? I think TLC is keeping a tight reign on Kate and what she says and does.

As far the overdraft notices. I am guessing there were not overdraft notices but a bank statement saying it went below the minimum balance for the account. That would come on line if they have on line statements (like I do). If their banking month is the calendar month than getting that notice on Friday makes sense since statements would have been done on the 1st (Thursday)..available on line right after...mail would hit in 5-7 business days.

True, my bank emails overdrafts also. And the lawyer could have just used the term "overdraft notices" when maybe Kate saw the overdrafts on-line or just received messages from the bank on the account on-line. And I know I would see an overdraft immediately on my bank account on-line. It doesn't take days anymore and mail is not the only way to be notified anymore. Heck, it could have been text on her cell phone, I've heard of that too.

It does seem odd, but I can't believe it is totally made up. First, I can totally see that lawyer telling Jon to pull the money out, even before I read about his misconduct. I can also understand ways it could have been done. Like Jon writing a check for $200,000 and the bank clearing it...like someone else said, it wouldn't have been looked at by a person. He didn't have to do it on Thursday Oct. 1st, he could have written the check on Monday, if there was a 3 day hold, then that would make it Thursday when it was drawn out of the account. I don't think Kate got a letter at all, she saw it online or was notified electronically. One time a check that someone wrote to me bounced, I was notified online long before I received the letter they also sent.

Kate on The Today show should be very interesting. That is if she still does it.

I guess we will find out soon if Jon really did take the money out.

I am assuming it is true since it is all over the place. If it turns out to be true, I really don't understand how people can keep defending Jon?:confused3

It's ironic, I have on CNN and they are replaying Jon's interview (and no I don't care how many interviews Jon does, he could give a press conference every day for all I care) but it is just ironic hearing him talk about how he doesn't want money, wants things to be nicer with Kate, etc.

I can't imagine what people would be saying if the situation was reversed and Kate had cleared out a bank account (if it turns out to be true). :scared1:

I wonder if there is any way for a judge to put a "gag order" on all parties, or is that just with criminal cases? It would be great for the kids if they could.

What you're saying makes much more sense, but that brings me back to the letter that was posted by TMZ, which is written pretty unprofessionally. Much of the details come from that letter, and they were elaborated on by the tabloids.

And has anybody ever seen a letter written by a lawyer that has that many details about things outside the current case? Just weird. :confused3

Just one thought about moving the money, I would assume that it was done via wire transfer and not by a check. In this day and age, people don't move that kind of cash via a cashier's check or plain old cash. All he had to do to move the money was have another account set up at another bank, contact the bank with the money in it and give them the instructions on where to wire the money. It can be done within minutes. I would assume that he already had his own bank account set up somewhere else. So it would take minutes and not days for anything to clear. He wouldn't need to be anywhere near the bank to accomplish it.

I work in the financial services industry and no one does checks anymore when its this kind of cash. :confused3

This whole thing is getting so bizzare. I am watching kate on the Today show right now and I must say my attitude on this situation has drastically changed.

I used to think that Kate was the bad guy and was on team Jon but lately I feel most for Kate. She seems so beaten down and never expected any of this to happen. How can you as a responsible father take out so much money from an account that provides the money that supports your kids.

For the sake of everyone I would love to see them take some time away from the cameras and the show to work things out. If they decide to come back fine if not then fine but they need to do something.

Just my opinion

So, the Today show is not on for another few minutes, I take it, she is on around 7:45 a.m. CST?

Jon probably needed the money to pay all his bills, rent-$25,000, lease payment on the cars $5,000, credit card bills probably$30,000 if not more. By the end of the year, the money will probably be gone.

I asked a few posts back, does he get paid to do this interviews?

I wish Meridith had asked Kate who is paying for the attorneys on both sides. I'd also like to know for sure if TLC is picking up any expenses such as portions of mortgage etc. Who is paying for the body guards for both etc. How is Jon supposed to survive, while I realize he could get a job they do have joint custody so he is involved somewhat in their care on a regular basis.

Do I think Jon took the $$? Absolutely! I think he has bills just as Kate does and I think w/ the whole name change, the money train has stopped for Jon. I believe TLC is helping Kate and not Jon.

I did feel bad for Kate until I realized this is the most emotion I've seen in a long time (I would have broken down months ago) and thought geez she's so emotion when she talks about $$$.

John has become the idiot in my book BUT I don't have too much sympathy/respect for Kate due to the fact that I feel the wool has been pulled over our eyes, ie: the vow renewal, how long he was living in the attic while show was filming etc.

JMHO of course.

I'd break down too if the father of my kids took 200 grand out of our household account!

This immature person who is a father continues to sink to new lows. How are his children going to survive if he stole the money meant for food and bills for his 8 children and wife??? And he has now ended the only source for their income.......................................... I've said it all along-Kate has had her hands full with that "immature person who is a father".

I just watched the interview online
and Kate did admit the money was taken out over a period of time-like a month.

I saw Jon on Larry King and am still confused on why he wants the kids no longer on the show. How exactly is this jerk going to provide for his kids????The show IS the family's income.
:confused3

I just saw the interview online and find it ridiculous. The um's, fake tears, I can't pay my bills. I took money out of the account before but I put it back. My kids were crying because they can't be on camera 24/7. Jon & Kate need to get off tv, stop giving interviews and spare their children some shame from there eratic behavior. They are both guilty of taking that money. What does Kate want, more freebies and donations. Give me a break. She sure hasn't looked that upset at her appearances concerning the missing money?? So much for taking the high road! Stand by while we wait for Jon's rebuttel???
