Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 6

TMZ.com has a copy of a letter Kate's lawyer sent to Jon's. It seems Kate's lawyer thinks Jon took the money to pay his lawyer.

http://www.aolcdn.com/tmz_documents/kate_jon_gosselin_doc.pdf

Whoa boy! That document is loaded. First, Kate's new lawyer is based in California? There were so many 'cc's' at the bottom of the letter that Kate must have a whole team of lawyers working for her. Second, this letter was definitely intended to discredit Jon's lawyer. It was full of allegations and quotes describing past misconduct. Also, this is not a checking account, it is a money market account. It further says that withdrawals cannot be made without consent by the other party. I wonder how that consent has to be given, written or verbal? I also wonder too how many withdrawals Kate has made from this account. Why all of sudden is it just Kate's money? I'm not saying Jon deserves it all, but we have heard rumors that she kept money from him and had other accounts he didn't know about. BTW, anyone wonder how Kate is paying her lawyers? :rolleyes1 I think there is WAY more to this story than that letter tells. What a disgusting mess.

Nobody said it was just Kate's money, but if Jon took more then half that isn't right. What is the difference if it is a Money Market or Checking.

I see it as if Kate is putting money on the side that might be a good thing, he seems to go thru lots of money.

My friend also had money on the side, because her DH went thru money like it was water and she would have had nothing.

According to her lawyers letter it is a money market account ie. an investment account, so there would have to be money in there. Although the letter does state that the money in that account would be used towards school fees, etc. I highly doubt this is the household account.

Just want to add that I find a lot of other things about this story highly suspect. I can't imagine a lawyer writing a letter saying that Jon stole "hundreds of thousands of dollars" -- nope they would have it down to the penny. Nor would they exagerate the amount. Maybe this letter is a complete fabrication by somebody else, maybe it was just an attempt to discredit Jon (and then in a couple of days, they'll say "oops, just a mistake"). I don't know. I need to see more about this before I even have an opinion.

I saw that after I read the initial stuff...in the reports on line it said she found out because of overdraft notices and that it was the account used for the bills, now the lawyers letter said money market...so I guess since the legal filing is stating money market that is what it is. I also didn't get the vague monetary amount in there...unless he drafted that quick and didn't know exactly how much was missing? :confused3

Exactly:thumbsup2

And this is a second set of lawyers for Kate -- not her divorce attorney

I have been watching the show for the last two years and watched the original specials when they reaired. I loved the interaction between the parents (very realistic, in my opinion); and the parents interaction with their children.

As a fan of both parents, I saw the weakness in one parent balanced by the strenghts of the other.

What's happening now, however, is appalling. If what the media are reporting is true, I have lost all compassion for Jon in this divorce. There are compelling arguments on both sides about the cause of the divorce. But his actions in recent weeks are at best, embarressing, at worst, deplorable.

On this forum, I've seen a distinct shift towards the pro-Jon camp. I know I'll get a lot of flack, but I feel compelled to point out the rationalizing going on in the Jon camp. No matter what stickey situation he is (reportedley) in, they find an excuse.

If Kate was photographed at bars, with other men, hosting Vegas parties, saying she "despised" Jon...you would rightfully be vilifying her as an "unfit" parent.

But, in fact, the opposite is true. And now media sources are reporting Jon emptyed the "family" account. If this proves to be true, will any of you change your views?

Or does the "Hate Kate" mantra trump all reality?

:thumbsup2

Just wanted to point out that I'm seeing that double standard creeping back again. Jon put out 2 press releases last week, did 3 interviews. Kate had her rep at one of the interviews, will be interviewed tomorrow and so far this week has issued 4 statements to the press. Jon is not the only one fighting this divorce in the media. Just saying.

JMO, I always felt that people were harder on Kate than Jon. I also feel that while Kate has done numerous interviews, she has not "fought the divorce in the media." From what I remember reading, when she had issues like with custody, she went through her lawyers or to the courts to get them handle. She didn't try to get the issues taken care of in the court of public opinion. If Jon has a problem with the kids doing the show, he should have went to the courts.

I wonder if this is more TLC's legal team and that Kate is using them. Then I also wonder if TLC is picking up some of the tab for this?

"They have not responded. I'm sure he will respond by going on another TV show," says Singer,

Like Kate is going to do tomorrow on the Today show? Give me a break.

How do they get these documents! that is one weird letter. I don't have a lot a lawyer experience, but wouldn't they just stick to facts and not point out stuff Jon said on LKL about wanting to apologize to Kate?

Something doesn't add up.

And yes, if Jon has done something illegal, there is no defense. but if he stops the filming of his kids, he is a better parent in that regard.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kate's people gave them to Radar online. Last time I went to that website there was an ad for TLC. Makes you wonder.

I don't make that kind of money either AND I don't have the kind of bills I bet they have.... electricity- water- sewer- heating- taxes- groceries- gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking what they put out in bills every month.............

I read that TLC picks up the household bills because they consider it a set and part of the shows budget.

Unlike Jon Kate has worked. She has written books, made appearances for fees etc. He hasn't had a job in a year or two maybe he should get a job to pay his own legal bills! God knows he is going to need one!:lmao: I hope they put him jail for contempt of court. I don't care why he took the money he broke the law; if neither them is allowed to take it without the others permission THEN YOU DON'T TAKE it. I don't see it as a difficult decision. IMHO he make mine and most husbands look like saints!;)

He was at home taking care of the kids! I call that work. They both have said that they wanted one of them to stay home with the kids and since she had the book deal it was Jon that stayed home.

How about him being home with the kids. That is work. I stay home with my 3 and don't get paid a cent. Yet I work pretty darn hard.

What is the difference if it is a Money Market or Checking.

Money Market account is a high yield savings account. I worked in the deposit operations department at a bank and I never set up a money market account where they could have checks access it so I don't know if it considered a money market checking I have never heard of that.

I saw that after I read the initial stuff...in the reports on line it said she found out because of overdraft notices and that it was the account used for the bills, now the lawyers letter said money market...so I guess since the legal filing is stating money market that is what it is. I think the reports online, like always, have sensationalized this story and added details where they shouldn't have, or gotten some of the details wrong. For example, there is no way Kate would get overdraft notices if the money was taken out on Oct. 1st.

If a good lawyer drafted a letter quickly, it would have been a 1-pager noting date, time, method of withdrawal and the exact dollar amount. I'm still wondering if that letter is a fake. :rolleyes1

And I seem to remember an episode of the show where Jon was talking about how he was in charge of their investments -- this would have been an account that he took care of during the marriage, I think.

IMO she has gone on all these shows with the "poor me" story and then refused to answer questions that didn't fit this "poor me" imagine she was putting out there. If you remember Jon stayed quiet while she did interview after interview. I'm sure he finally got sick of it and started doing press of his own.

Radar Online didn't provide these documents, TMZ.com did. I don't know how, but they have always been able to get documents like this.

Kate's Pa lawyer is no match for this guy Jon has hired. I don't think he plays by the rules.

Do you think it is possible Jon gave this guy power of attorney?

I found this on line for money market accounts

A money market account is a type of savings account offered by banks and credit unions just like regular savings accounts. The difference is that they usually pay higher interest, have higher minimum balance requirements (sometimes $1000-$*2500), and only allow three to six withdrawals per month. Another difference is that, similar to a checking account, many money market accounts will let you write up to three checks each month.

I hear you!! :thumbsup2

I am a stay at home mom too and I am more tired at the end of the day than when I worked 8-5 Monday thru Friday! Very hard work to stay at home with Kids but to me it is 100% worth it.

Yeah, but Radar online broke the story. How did they get the info?

I've learned that if it is out there, TMZ can get it.
