Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 6

Oops, I posted the article twice.

I know people are going to give Kate and Jon heck for wasting money on the high profile attorneys but if they go bankrupt cause of legal fees, I'm more inclined to blame Jon. Kate needs to protect the children and herself from stunts like this!

I might be putting myself out on a limb, but I just don't believe Jon took that money out of the account. The guy must of did 3 interviews last week and I can't believe he would take a 180 degree turn around and do this. I think its going to untrue---JMO!

so who do you think took it?

It sounds like they could take some money but not large amounts. This new lawyer is going to play games with wording in contracts & agreements.

I think the new tactic is to drive up the lawyer bills on Kate. I'm just not getting why. I thought he just wanted to be free of her. He was a few days of being divorced.

ITA! I wonder what Jon and his lawyer is thinking and trying to accomplish?? What does delaying the divorce help? And since they are still married, isn't it stupid to drive up legal fees? After they divorce, they have to split things 50/50 right? So.. isn't he making his cut smaller by doing this? This is so confusing! :confused3

I really don't understand HOW he took it out, why it was left open to that? don't they freeze accounts or require the permission rather than just saying, 'don't take any money' and 'ok I won't'. It sounds like the money is gone, but I'm thinking the agreement may not be what we are being led to believe. Kate is pretty dumb not to secure her bank account long before now. There's more to this too, I think.

so who do you think took it?

Do you keep hundreds of thousands dollars in your checking account??? Maybe his evil twin went to the bank in PA when Jon was in LosAngeles and cleaned it out?? IMO, I bet its going to be some kind of misunderstanding!!!

Jons lawyer is using him for his 15 min of fame & fee. But what could Jon be so PO about since LK?

If this was not true don't you think Jon would be making a statement by now?

I have been watching the show for the last two years and watched the original specials when they reaired. I loved the interaction between the parents (very realistic, in my opinion); and the parents interaction with their children.

As a fan of both parents, I saw the weakness in one parent balanced by the strenghts of the other.

What's happening now, however, is appalling. If what the media are reporting is true, I have lost all compassion for Jon in this divorce. There are compelling arguments on both sides about the cause of the divorce. But his actions in recent weeks are at best, embarressing, at worst, deplorable.

On this forum, I've seen a distinct shift towards the pro-Jon camp. I know I'll get a lot of flack, but I feel compelled to point out the rationalizing going on in the Jon camp. No matter what stickey situation he is (reportedley) in, they find an excuse.

If Kate was photographed at bars, with other men, hosting Vegas parties, saying she "despised" Jon...you would rightfully be vilifying her as an "unfit" parent.

But, in fact, the opposite is true. And now media sources are reporting Jon emptyed the "family" account. If this proves to be true, will any of you change your views?

Or does the "Hate Kate" mantra trump all reality?

Gotta love this one...whatever happened to "I just want to be Jon"

http://www.tmz.com/2009/10/04/jon-gosselin-video-ivy-paparazzi/

I honestly don't see Jon doing anything wrong here. He was having lunch and he was bombarded by paparazzi. So? :confused3 He didn't even answer their questions, so I really don't understand your comment.

I don't believe for one second that Kate left Jon with access to hundreds of thousands of dollars! As far as we know, the judge has awarded Kate control of the finances.

Yes, she asked the judge for that and it was granted. Maybe she had the discretion to allow him access to an account, but I highly doubt she gave him the power to take everything. Even if it is true, we don't know how much of the total assets the $200,000 was (there was apparently $100,000 found stashed in the house in cash, and reports of a safety deposit box in Kate's name full of cash), or if Kate had been disbursing it properly ie. Jon was entitled to an allowance.

Not to downplay this, but how much money has Kate taken out of the bank account since the pending divorce was announced? It seems that everything she does is fine, but anything Jon does is wrong. I'm not sticking up for Jon because I think he has done a lot of dumb things, but I don't think we are hearing both sides of the story.

Exactly :thumbsup2

Just wanted to point out that I'm seeing that double standard creeping back again. Jon put out 2 press releases last week, did 3 interviews. Kate had her rep at one of the interviews, will be interviewed tomorrow and so far this week has issued 4 statements to the press. Jon is not the only one fighting this divorce in the media. Just saying.

I never read it was a checking account.

People do keep this kind of money in 1 account now because the FDIC raised the limit they cover to $250,000. It used to be $100,000.

TMZ.com has a copy of a letter Kate's lawyer sent to Jon's. It seems Kate's lawyer thinks Jon took the money to pay his lawyer.

Well, it looks like Kate's lawyer is trying to discredit both Jon and his lawyer. I have 2 questions -- why does Kate have a litigation lawyer? and why don't all of the other articles state that this is a money market account -- it's an investment, not a personal bank account. Jeez.

How do they get these documents! that is one weird letter. I don't have a lot a lawyer experience, but wouldn't they just stick to facts and not point out stuff Jon said on LKL about wanting to apologize to Kate?

Something doesn't add up.

And yes, if Jon has done something illegal, there is no defense. but if he stops the filming of his kids, he is a better parent in that regard.

True, it's just so stupid that its hard to believe, kwim? Doesn't Jon know he could go to jail?

Maybe he's mad that his LKL interview didn't help his image? The day after his interview, everyone on LKL but the guy from E! seemed to not believe Jon. A poll that was posted on LKL's website after his interview favored Kate as well.

:thumbsup2 Great Post!

Can I use the "does the "Hate Kate" mantra trump all reality?" in my signature? I'll give you credit.

No I don' because I don't make the kind of money these people do. Not sure why you felt the need to get all snarky there.

This reportedly is an account that is used to pay bills..so why wouldn't there be money in there?

I don't make that kind of money either AND I don't have the kind of bills I bet they have.... electricity- water- sewer- heating- taxes- groceries- gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking what they put out in bills every month.............

You would think his lawyer would be all over it calling it lies.

I think they are both to blame for this whole thing, but like I just told my daughter, I think this is the real Jon and most likely why Kate was like she was. Just my opinion...but you don't just turn into a jerk overnight. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt...when they first reported that he was going out to bars and cheating I was always defending him saying"oh no, he would never do that"...but the more I see, the more I just think he has always been a jerk.

Absolutely...

According to her lawyers letter it is a money market account ie. an investment account, so there would have to be money in there. Although the letter does state that the money in that account would be used towards school fees, etc. I highly doubt this is the household account.

Just want to add that I find a lot of other things about this story highly suspect. I can't imagine a lawyer writing a letter saying that Jon stole "hundreds of thousands of dollars" -- nope they would have it down to the penny. Nor would they exagerate the amount. Maybe this letter is a complete fabrication by somebody else, maybe it was just an attempt to discredit Jon (and then in a couple of days, they'll say "oops, just a mistake"). I don't know. I need to see more about this before I even have an opinion.

I think Jon did take the money. I know someone that acted just like Jon is acting.

I am not a Kate lover or hater - but I have to say she doesn't seem to spend money like Jon, she isn't in the bars, traveling to France, buying expensive shoes and clothes, or having an apartment in NYC - does Jon really need all of that?!

So what if Kate has been on The View or may have her own show, she is at least looking and trying for something different.

Does Jon even look for a job? I use to like Jon but he just seems like a loose cannon - you never know what he is going to do next.
