Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 5

for now.

and at what point do advertisers begin pulling out with all the negative publicity?

I think the publicity would have to get alot worse before an advertiser pulls out and even then, I'm sure there would be another one waiting to take it's place. There are much worse reality shows out there, if Rock of Love could get advertisers, anyone can! :rotfl:

I keep hearing about the ratings nosedive, but it only dived from that one breakup show of almost 10 million, that was just nosy people, other than that their ratings are still extremely good for a cable reality show, I think they blow almost every other one out of the water.

I'm probably be in the minority on this thread, but I still watch and I honestly still watch mostly to see the kids.

I found Hailey on Twitter. I am following her just to see what she might have to say. Nothing really interesting yet but I thought I would share.

you're probably right about the advertisers. the lone exception to that, and they're not an advertiser, would be Zondervan. Even with Kate laying low (relatively speaking, especially compared to Jon), the Gosselin image isn't consistent with the Zondervan label.

before all the drama, the ratings were dropping at a pretty good rate. I wonder how quickly the viewership will get bored and move on to something else.

and furthermore, it's not even a reality show anymore (some would claim it never has been, but that isn't my point). At least, it isn't the reality of the Gosselin family. If they were truly showing the Gosselin reality, it would be all the stuff hitting the tabloids .. not fabricated beach vacations (that people take at the last minute on Memorial day weekend? please.) or TV show cross promotions. If they want to show Kate as a single mom? fine. But show her as a single mom, without the nannies, PAs, and bodyguards. I want to see her get 8 kids out the door for school on time. THAT'S reality. :rotfl:

PS. speaking of school, was it ever explained why the children aren't starting kindergarten this year as 5 year olds?

I'm probably be in the minority on this thread, but I still watch and I honestly still watch mostly to see the kids.

I also think this show was taking a nosedive before the break up. Several articles I have read said that viewers thought the kids were getting older and all they seem to do is repeat each other. The family goes on unrealistic last minute vacations that a normal family could never afford even with planning. The remodeling projects, crooked houses, trip to decorate a cake, is not what
interests everyone.
About Kate's visit to the "cheesecake factory", our local one is one of the busiest restaurants around. It is crowded, loud and always a wait. Unless she wanted the attention, I can't believe she would go their with her girls and expect to be left alone. Not that I'm saying bothering someone while they are eatting is right, but I'm sure their is more to this story.

are those the lights from the "green" episode? the pile in the corner of the picture?

Yup, they sure do look like the driveway lights from the 'going green' episode. I wonder how Steve will feel to see them piled up that way. :sad2:

These pictures made me want to retch. This new nanny/cocktail waitress/wanna be model/probable stripper is just plain raunchy. There is NO way I'd let a woman who looks like that, has a website of scantily clad photos of herself up and would consider posing nude, near my kids. What is Jon thinking? I wonder too how he is able to hire his own nannies? Shouldn't that be a joint decision between he and Kate, who they pay to watch their kids? Ridiculous.

Our former babysitter was this sweet 19 year old girl who was recommended to us by my good friend. Turns out she was caught for shoplifting and is living with her boyfriend. Needless to say, we're not using her services anymore. I'm very particular about who watches my girls and I can only imagine Kate is going to freak :scared1: when she sees this newest nanny. I wish there were an 'idiot' smilie...

i agree.

when i see what the show has become it just makes me want to stay tuned out and opt for what i see as much more "real" family shows. sure, the rolloffs are shown traveling around but i see it as a minor portion of their show. the vacations with the entire family don't seem so staged just for the purpose of the show, and unlike j&k+8 we see the 'back at home' implications of one or the other parent traveling for public speaking engagements (something we've never seen on the gosselin's show let alone seen aknowledged). the rolloffs have'nt been without negative p.r.(when matt was arrested for his dui)-but they sucked it up and talked about the event and even aired entire episodes about the consequences.

i think, for me, i just enjoy seeing with the large families the day to day dynamics. i REALY enjoy table for 12. i enjoy what some might think are the borning and mundane-seeing how they manage to wrangle all those kids into snow clothes and schlep them in and out of the car, how they manage to deal with the challenges and frustrations of the older kids "dealing" with the much younger sextuplets. i find it particularly interesting and emotionaly impressive watching the extra mileS the parents go to find an element in every experience they expose the other children to that touches their disabled daughter:love:

Why is Jon letting the kids talk to the "p" people (that is, if this caption is true) http://www.radaronline.com/photos/i...t-visit-his-one-night-stand-stephanie-santoro

Oh, if I was their mother, that picture more than any of the other ones would make my blood boil. I realize we don't really know for sure that the man crouching down talking to Hannah is a paparazzo, but what if he is? Look at the way he's drawing the kids in, and the trusting looks on their faces. What could he be talking to them about? Is he asking them questions? Is this "off the record?" That makes me sick!!

This makes me sick to my stomach! :sad2:

Those kids have been around "men with cameras" their entire lives, so how do they know who is the good guys and who are the bad guys. Think about it, they see someone with a camera they think they are nice guys that want to film them when they could be ANYONE! It's scary.

I saw the pilot for Table for 12, but didn't really get into after that. I know there was some hullaballoo after one of their episodes was basically a Ragu commercial, and that's about it. Does that show have the same production staff as JK8? I ask that because I caught an episode of the Duggar's show this week. It is like watching JK8, with a different family. It's the same formula, completely uninspired... and they even have some of the old crew? They're a totally different group than these HOM families, even without the religion factor. I'd love to see them play that up, not turn them into reality show road kill.

Hi Ladies (and gentlemen).

I'm just waving hallo for my first post here. I've been lurking for a bit, and just want to say that I like your respectful style on the Gosselin debacle. I'm going to come here, read, learn and post more sometimes in the future.:goodvibes

I have followed the Gosselins for about a year, on and off and I have seen re-runs. I have questioned many things I saw on the show, and needed to research a bit more to get an informed opinion. Wow, I got an education on *hate* and *fan* blogs when I googled Gosselin! Oh my!:scared1:

At least here I can read differing opinions without screening out profanities. The latest developments have me cringing too. I worry about the kids. I think that both Kate and Jon need to rethink their priorities.

Looking forward to knowing you all better.

Welcome, Walden.

And did anyone notice HER little girl with the Gosselin children? Geez... it is all too much. If I were kate, I'd be having a stroke. And I'm sure Jon knows exactly what buttons to punch.

We're a fun group even if we all don't agree about J&K!;)

Buckelew, yes I did see that the new nanny/waitress/model was with her little girl as well and that she was playing with the Gosselin kids. Makes me wonder how high Kate's blood pressure will go when she sees that. :scared1:

Me too!

The tups b-day is in May so J & K may have had the option of starting them this year or next year. The anti-Kate argument--they can be filmed much more this year if they aren't in school. The pro-Kate argument--they were born premature and early on seemed to have some slight developmental issues. Also, I would suspect that living in a media fishbowl and living in a small pack of children has not necessarily encouraged development and socialization. J & K may have felt that holding them out a year wouldn't hurt anything. If the rumors on the other boards are true and Kate is done after this year--then that would be a better time to start them.

I was very nervous about my DD she missed the kindergarten cut off by 2 days. I don't think she is a genious (I'll leave that to my mom and my DH) but she holds her own. I talked to the pedi about our concerns. He said he has never seen a kid hurt by staying out a year, he has seen plenty not do well when started too early.

my DD was born 45 minutes before the cutoff ... we didn't even think about sending her to school the year the state said she could. we waited a year. we waited with all our kids. best decision we ever made.

and IMO, Kentucky's cutoff date is too late. With so many schools starting in early August, they cutoff should be August 1.

In the case of the Gosselin children, you make some very good points... both for and against. I could see any of them being a legit reason. I was just wondering if they'd addressed the issue anywhere.

Our cutoff is December 1st, so they would be attending school this September if they lived in NY!!!
I think they are holding them back due to filming. Look at the money they would loose if they don't fulfill their number of episodes. Do you really think the film crew is going to sit around all day waiting for them to get home from school and the kids be tired or crankey??
What if Kate wants to go on a last minute vacation to the Bahama's. The twins are at the age where it gets difficult to pull them out because they miss so much. Can you imagine 8 kids making up homework??? Not with this mother and father.

I agree with Mousey -- there really doesn't seem to be another reason to keep them out for an extra year. And given the divorce and how things have changed so much at home, it would be great for them to get into the school day schedule and away from the TV set, er, house.

Do we know that they will not be in any school at all? Will they not be in pre-k again? Did we all see their progress reports from school last year? Do any of us know that they are truly ready for K?

No, just a discussion on the Ford board I mentioned in pp. I lurk there sometimes. I would normally agree that May is too late. My twins were born in May and I would not hold them out a year. But I would really consult with my pedi if I were Kate, that is a very different situation. I taught a set of twins once that were in two different grades. One had hearing loss from an illness. Their mom hated to do it but it was for the best..

I'm not sure about this. I'm not quite ready to think the worst of people at every turn. There are plenty of days they could film when there is no school and they would be off the bus by 4:00.

I guess this is the time that they can really use the not-a-nanny that so many people complain about. My DD only had about 15 minutes of homework Monday thru Thursday in KG but times 6 plus the twins homework! WOW. That would be your whole evening.
