Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

I'm not saying this as religious debate, but just add my two cents on the word "hate". We had this SAME discussion a LONG time ago on another thread (ha! I think it was about Tom Cruise) and some peopel took all sorts of offense to the word being used lightly and others tossed it around like it was just a word that meant they disliked something.

It is a "you say tom-ah-to , I say to-may-to " thing.

Religious people are usually going to take more offense to it. I remember explaining it to a person on that thread at that time, and I will explain it again here.

Disclaimer_ this is MY personal view. I don't care if you don't agree with me, I am just explaining how I and many people that are close to me view the word. I'm not preachin, just explainin....

As a Christian, I have been taught that God is Love. It says it in the Bible. "God is Love" God is in all things that are good. When you "love" something, it is all good. It is love. It is godly. God is in it. On the contrary, Hate is evil. Hate is the stuff that satan is about. It is the opposite of Love, and anything the opposite of Love is the opposite of God. So that is why many religious people will find it an extremely HARSH word, not to be used lightly or sometime not to be used at all.

I totally understand thought that some people just see the word as word that mean "extreme dislike or aversion" and when I read it in their post, I keep that in mind, because they may not have my background with the word.

Now, I try not to use the word lightly, (I'm sure I do from time to time though, because I know I'm not perfect) But with all that said, I still have an extreme dislike and aversion to Kate.

Oh yeah, and with all that said, even though I am in the "it is a harsh word not be used camp" - I didn't need to be "enlightened" about the definition either. People's life experiences make them feel differently about things. It's not all black and white and text book all the time.

There's no reason to take it to PM's.. I'm done with the conversation and won't bother to respond to all of the additional things she quoted.. They are irrelevant to me at this point

Your right Buckalew11--I don't hate Kate. I am disgusted by the way she is exploiting her kids. Nobody told them they had to put their family on public display. They have gotten enough freebies over the years to last a lifetime. They claim they are doing everything for their kids, but at what cost?
For all they have been given, they really don't give anything back. That scoooter was donated by OCC. All the other fundraisers with the exception of the garage sale (which was probably more stuff donated to them) was paid for through TLC and sponsors.

So are you also disgusted by the way Jon is exploiting his kids? I assume they both signed a contract with TLC, so why is this all now Kate's fault and "her kids"?

Yes, the scooter was donated by OCC and was the bike that Jon got. Did I miss the episode where Jon donated his bike????

I don't really like where this show/family has gone, but to say it is all Kate's fault makes no sense to me.

If Jon is such an (I don't know what to call him) that everything is Kate's fault and he can't stand up, say what he thinks, do what is right for his family....well then if this does end in divorce, he obviously should not have custody of the kids. If he cannot even make normal decisions for himself and his family, why would anyone give him custody of the kids???

As a Mom of a 6 year old son I would not want him to be influenced by a man who as the Kate "haters" say "oh it is not poor Jon's fault, he gets ridiculed, he was so young when he got married, she bosses him around."

Good grief, Jon needs to finally stand up and be a man.

Good grief, Kate needs to wake up and realize what is best for her children and take whatever measures need to be taken. I think Kate is a strong woman and she will do what is best for her children, whether any of us agree or not.

Ah ha! So that's where the problem lies.. Regardless of what the dictionary says, "hate" means something entirely different to me, my family, my fellow church goers, and many, many other people I know.. To us it means something more along the lines of: "Given the opportunity I would kill Kate.. Slowly torture her to death.. Purposely run her down with my car.." Things along those lines.. That's why we never attach it to a "person" - nor are the children in our families allowed to do so.. It's just very, very offensive to us and crosses over into areas that we don't approve of..

I think there are better words that could be used - or different phrases that wouldn't take but a few seconds to type out - but since it's "my" issue with the word that's creating problems for me, I guess I will just have to grit my teeth when I see it from now on.. To me it's just a very ugly, threatening word (when attached to a person) that I don't personally wish to be associated with..

Lest there be any further confusion, I am very disappointed in the choices that Jon & Kate have made.. I am very concerned about their children.. I would like nothing better than to see the show end - and last, but not least - I have never, ever had any desire to see their marriage end.. That is not "my" definition of "hate" - and never will be..

Regardless of how I personally feel about the "hate" word here, at least it's been cleared up now - on both ends..

I don't think she meant that literally. See my explaination above. I think she means she attaches that word to all things evil. She was just giving examples of things that are as strong and offensive and evil to her.

Not that I'm a fan of Jon's but really there was nothing else he could say. If he gave away the show's premise he'd be in some legal trouble with the network. I'm sure there was a hush clause about the whole thing.

He could've avoided being questioned by not putting himself out there in his front yard with all of the hoopla at the gates. For someone that doesn't enjoy being in the spotlight, he seems to perpetuate it by encouraging "fans". I read he went inside, got some pictures and autographed them to hand out. Strange for someone that wants out so badly.

It was something I read on the other thread and took to heart myself. I hadn't even read back on this thread when I posted here. Hard to keep up when posts are flying. I like this thread, but cannot keep up with 2 - it is too much J&K for me. I always like coming here for news and links, and posting links, too. We can't stop now, we gotta see what is gonna happen.

Any hoo, good thing the show is on Monday...... because I'm going to Disney World next Thursday!!

No worries about the comments - like I said before I was having a bad morning, took the comment personally and I think just read it at the wrong time. It's totally ok!! Only a few more hours until this speculation is put to rest - for now at least!

So now WE TV is trying to jump on the "multiples" bandwagon with "Raising Sextuplets". Is anybody going to watch that between the Duggars and J&K+8?

I dvr'd a couple of episodes lsat week and watched them this weekend. I kind of like them - they're a lot like DH and I it seems. Now I've only watched like two shows and their initial special but in the last one I watched, the DW and DH were "discussing" who was going to change a diaper. The DH didn't think he should have to because he'd "worked" (outside the home) all day. DH and I have had that "discussion" many a time! I think they're already kind of where J&K are at in regards to speaking their minds with each other and put it out there (at least in the couple of episodes I've seen) that maybe it will be better for them?? Who knows???

Little Jonas is 13 weeks old now and 16 pounds....sometimes I think he looks tiny, and sometimes I think he looks big...

OH! I watched the E! special at some point this weekend and they showed the sun bathing picture again. This time when they showed Jon and the "other guy" in the yard, I really thought it looked like Dianna's brother (the guy with the cowboyish hat). Anyone else think that might be him or was that already discussed and I missed it pages ago?

You guys were busy this weekend!! It was crazy hard to catch up this morning so I'm sure I missed some details in there. Waiting on tonight's episode. I was up in the middle of the night again tonight and they were showing a mix of the "new" commercial with Kate's voiceover and the "other" commercial (hadn't seen that one but guessing it was the original commercial for the episode) with Jon clearing land for the little houses and stuff.

J&K were talked about on GMA again this morning. Are they slated to appear anywhere tomorrow to discuss the big announcement??

After months of unfavorable tabloid coverage and speculation about the state of their marriage, Jon and Kate Gosselin are set to make an announcement tonight on their popular reality series, "Jon and Kate Plus 8," about their family's future.

"Recently, we've made some life-changing decisions, decisions that will affect every member of our family, ones that we hope will bring each of us some peace," Kate Gosselin said in the episode airing tonight.

A promotion for the hour-long special episode, which airs on TLC, has captions like "a family in turmoil," "a relationship at a crossroads," and "Where do they go from here?" while showing images of a once happy Gosselin clan.

"If you're a betting, man, you're betting there is either going to be a divorce or at least a separation," said Entertainment Weekly television critic Ken Tucker.

The statement comes just 10 days after the couple's 10-year wedding anniversary. The Gosselins, who are parents to a set of twins and sextuplets, have become the country's most discussed couple after allegations of extramarital affairs arose.

"Doesn't matter where Jon and I are in our relationship. My kids still matter the most to me. We haven't really known where we were going, but we've been dealing with this for a long time. A slow progression that has not popped up one day, it's not been like a secret," Kate Gosselin said.

Even before the reality show's fifth season premiere, which netted 10 million viewers, the Gosselins had become tabloid fodder. Kate Gosselin and her gang of eight were trailed constantly by the paparazzi in and around their Pennsylvania hometown.

Each spoke out about the difficulties in their marriage to People magazine and both have vehemently denied any extramarital affairs.

But the denials weren't enough to squelch the increasing gossip that the Gosselins were headed for an imminent breakup.

Paparazzi photos showed the pair seemingly living separate lives.

Kate Gosselin was shown hitting the beach with her children during a recent vacation to North Carolina, sans husband. Jon Gosselin was spotted reportedly shopping for an apartment in New York City.

The ever-increasing tabloid coverage has had an adverse effect on the Gosselin marriage.

"It just got worse and worse and worse, and with all the tabloids and all that, it just made it even worse. People think I've changed, and I have changed, but I'm now the person I know I am," Jon Gosselin said in the episode that airs tonight.

And while initially the couple's drama has fueled their show's ratings rise, lately it seems public sentiment may be against them because of the cracks that have appeared in the once happy family.

"The whole point of "Jon and Kate Plus 8" is to show a happy family living in harmony," Tucker said. "This could get messy."

But the end of the Gosselin marriage wouldn't necessarily mean the end of their reality show.

"Kate could turn this into a career and she could very easily position the show as the portrait of a single mother raising eight children now," Tucker said. "One possible scenario for an upcoming season would just be "Kate Plus 8." The show still rhymes. It still works."

He probably couldn't say anything due to contracts with the show. That I can understand. However I dont agree with using your marriage to get money, because that's what their show has become. Assuming they are ending their marriage.

I want to watch the show tonight because I'm curious but I dont want to watch because it feels wrong.
