Sorry (again ) if this link was already posted, but I hadn't watched this April interview until tonight, and thought it was very strange/strained all around. Wonder if things were coming apart then? And I wonder what Kate thought of what Mady says at the end when asked if they liked their mom ("I still like Daddy better")? That has to hurt a mom, especially broadcast on TV. Maybe the Mady water incident was right after that, and Kate was thinking "Darn kid, we'll just let your Daddy get you some water"

Thank you, I hadn't seen this. Someone in teh comments area said Cara leaned over and told Mady she was supposed to lie (I guess about how she enjoyed so many kids?). Did you catch that? I missed it.

OT, I just saw that the Duggers were on the Today Show this a.m. I had no idea they were 45 mins. away from me in Lake City, TN. I told DH we should go visit, but he didn't bite. He actually said, "Who are they?" LOL

The Today Show was giving them a surprise. Anyone know what it was?

I am getting caught up on my reality tv now that my girls are with their dad for a month, and caught 2 episodes of the Duggars yesterday. Those kids are so freaking cute and funny. I like the Duggars, but the whole "dancing is sinful" thing is just too much for me...

they were only truthful after they had no other choice.

there was every intention to move ahead with the series, perpetuating the Gosselin myth of the happy family. And even if you only go back to February, when the first pictures/stories surfaced .. they were already filming for season 5.

This is how I feel about it. I think if Jon had not gotten cuaght on film, we'd have been led to believe that things were just "cold" between them. You can tell they were going to do this by the way these taped earlier shows were done! Makes me wonder how long was this going on before a pic surfaced? maybe that was why kate got nastier and nastier to him--he probably disgusted her and those deeper digs felt good to her. Who knows, but I do know I believe they were going to allow viewers to go down a false road as long as they could.

Hey Y'all! Finally getting caught up! Saturday we had to drop DH off on his "ship" (ferry) for work so the boys and I hit the beach for an hour or so then went home to get ready for a "Monkey Party" (birthday party) and came home and crashed. Yesterday we had to go pick DH up from his "ship" and hit the beach for a couple more hours....then Mommy took a couple hour nap and couldn't find motivation for the rest of the day! You guys have been busy!!

MichelleVW - where did you find a house big enough for 14 of you?? (j/k!) Congrats on the trip and your lucky kiddos for being in Paris!

I've got a list (yes I made lists over the weekend as I caught up on J&K+8) so I wouldn't forget. But, I forgot my lists this morning! Maybe I'll run home on my lunch hour and get them. I watched the Emeril and AC episodes this weekend.

Ok...I'm caught up now....now I have to do some "real" work....

this has probably already been posted (can't keep up with you guys now that the kiddos are on summer vacation), but has anyone caught the star magazine spread where kate's former "fiancee" talks about their relationship and claims he broke off the engagement after she supposedly cheated on him? he then goes on to claim she was very stalkerish towards him after he refused to get back together with him. if for no other reason to check it out the old photos are fun to look at.

While of course everyone is concerned for the kids, beyond that concern, I don't see this show as anything more than a show. I don't believe they owe me anything. I don't know much of anything about this couple and never did, even after watching 4 seasons. It's a show, one that TLC is probably making the most money on. What they choose to show us is what they choose to show us, and I have no idea how long they have or haven't gotten along or even if they are now together. What part of their lives they want to keep private is their business. I have no idea if they are working on their marriage or if they are together or apart. I've always thought all of these 'reality' shows are just that..shows and people are trying to make a living doing them. I have no doubt that there is a lot of money involved, and I just see it as the adults doing their jobs and trying to hold it together..maybe for the kids, maybe for themselves. In their minds, maybe they thought showing their good parts would make it so.

So no, I haven't thought of this as being lied to. They may be a real family, but it really is just a television show, one that I have enjoyed.

Ah, but remember that "their life is the show and the show is their life." Sounds like they're trying to make seem as real as possible which is exactly how TLC pitched it to the viewers. That's the lure of reality TV, that it's not just a show but rather a real look into people's lives.

Wow, Mady sure is honest isn't she? I'm sure Kate was peeved after that interview! I'd be hurt if my daughter said that she likes Daddy better since I'm a stay at home Mom and I homeschool. But with Kate, Jon is the one who's been in that Mr. Mom role so I guess it makes sense for Mady to feel that way.

That whole interview looked weird to me...Kate was grabbing Alexis hard by the arm so much so that she rubbed it afterward and then later was giving these glaring nasty looks at the kids. I wonder if she somehow forgot that she was being filmed!!

100% totally agree with your statement. Remember that Kate feels entitled since society promotes the use of fertility drugs. So people should be helping her out (in her mind) because she has so many kids. Perpetuating that image of the happy, huge family despite serious marital issues in order for the show to continue is ridiculous in my opinion. We saw with our own eyes Jon saying he didn't like this life, the attention the show was generating and felt lost. Then we're left to wonder if they'll come back for season 5. Well lo and behold, they were already starting to film season 5! Now they're contractually obligated to do the show. I wonder how much $ they'd lose if they pulled the plug now? I also wonder how many seasons they signed on for, if it was more than just one.

The newly married Duggar's were on the Today show to reveal the sex of the grandbaby to the family back in TN. They had them cut into the cake and the color of the inside of the cake revealed the sex.
On the Today website are other video's of past shows. One is the Masche family and how they feel about reality tv and how it will affect them. The first thing they said was we are keeping our full time jobs! I think this is the problem with Jon & Kate. They need to get jobs, end their reality show and move on with their lives.

on topic; the cop saying the pap was tipped off by local business owners as well as encouraged by Kate...not surprising. Celebs' people alert the pap all the time of their whereabouts. It's all sick, not just J and K. I so respect celebs like Denzel who live private lives. He "gives back" all the time and never allows photographers and press to cover it. His son John David plays NFL football and most people don't even know because he won't allow press based on his "name." Tons of others live like this too.

Sure they say that about all the reality shows. But I've never bought into that. It's a TV show, period, IMO. I just don't think they owe me anything. Most on this board saw trouble in paradise, so why are we now saying they pretended? They have not been nice to each other in ages. The only difference is they didn't actually say the words. But most on this board saw it. Again, in reality, do you tell all your secrets? Why should they have to? I don't think they got away with much, I think the paparazzi has kept us up to date. Maybe before he 'got caught' Kate pretended to herself that all was well (er well, maybe OK), and had to admit it wasn't once there was 'proof'. Pretty much like in real life, when someone suspects her husband is cheating, but can pretend he isn't, until she's confronted.

As I've said several times, I think a lot of the blame is on TLC's shoulders. I don't know what is in their contract, what they are allowed to share. I just don't know. I do know that other reality shows should be looking at this carefully. I doubt many marriages can withstand all the public scrutiny. Jon was always going to work outside the home too..he said he never wanted to stay home with the kids. We don't know how that happened, if he lost his job or if he and Kate decided while she traveled for the book release he would stay home, or what. We only get to see what TLC wants us to see.

That's because Denzel is a "true" celebrity. Kate isn't. Once Kate's show is gone so will she. I think Kate loves her new look and wants to flaunt it as much as she can. Obviously her husband could care less about her so she has to go out to the "p" people to get some attention. If she is so worried about the "p" people why is she bringing 1 or 2 kids with her on these outings. Didn't seem to bother her before to leave them home. I hope she had a coupon for Bed, Bath & Beyond!!!

why is that even Today Show worthy? I've never understood why the Duggars choose to announce all that stuff on national TV (especially when they have their own show) and why NBC airs it. I guess someone must be interested or they wouldn't do it. LOL.

I think it for the publicity. It says there that they have been on Today 8 times in 4 years. So, they update with this type thing (probably another baby on the way news more often than not!) ad while it is not newsworthy, really, not everyone watches their show either. i don't. I watched their specials back in the beginning because they fascinated me but I don't watch their adventures regularly. Michelle is so organized I feel inadequite (sp) and I think 18 kids are too many for me to watch. Makes my head swim! Honestly 3 or more is a lot of kids in my book! LOL

I just watched the clip and the person that wrote that in the comment area is mistaken. Cara doesn't say anything to Mady. Mady says the little kids are annoying and then she whispers "and they lie".
