Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

Aren't they airing their 100th episode next week??? According to wikipedia, Season 3 was 31 episodes and Season 4 was 41 episodes.

You're right! IMDB, (Internet Movie Database), has them down as having been in 58 episodes. (And, by the way, their popularity has gone up 388% in the last week on IMDB!) But Wikipedia has them listed as approaching their 100th episode.

It looks to me like Wikipedia is right -- they have the actual episode guide linked.

And that doesn't include the specials that came before the regular TV show.

Actually I believe this episode and the next couple were filmed before the whole cheater cheater pumpkin eater issue came up/out. Then they did the bday party and whats going on with Kate and Jon 1st to say what the deal with them was. Or at least thats what I thought I read on this thread previously or maybe another thread LOL

Correct. These are being shown out of order right now. Last weeks was the most current. Kate's birthday is end of March and the sextuplets is May 10th. I am thinking they added some voice edits last night to set up the fact we won't be seeing them together much.

it might have been before the story officially broke -- but I've seen it mentioned on other sites that the teacher went to Utah with him.

I would bet this episode was made prior to the break of the media frenzie. She was NOTHING like the episode of the birthday party. Also the jackets need was not a sweat jacket, but a winter coat. Even where he was skiing was heavy winter weather. I would guess this had to be in Feb. before the perverable poo poo hit the fan.
:surfweb:

Kate's birthday is the last week in March.

I have a question ... Was Kate REALLY surprised by the bus showing up? Did she really NOT know they were driving 2 hours to Charm City Cakes?

On one hand I thought she did seem a bit surprised, but on the other hand, I just can't imagine Kate being so good about going on a trip she didn't know about it.

she's a producer on the show. I'd think she knew about the trip, and was acting surprised for the kids' sake.

I am thinking they added some voice edits last night to set up the fact we won't be seeing them together much.

I caught about 3 minutes of the 2nd episode at 12:30am (the west coast feed) and watched just long enough to hear Jon's voiceover about not being on the interview couch sometimes. I already knew he said it, based on what I'd read about the episode earlier in the night, but I didn't realize it was a voiceover .. I was wondering if they didn't shoot some additional interview footage last week.

So, I guess that's how TLC is going to try and salvage this thing? Sometimes Jon won't be around? And that's it?

I wonder how long before the ratings for last night's show will be released.

I agree. I think he is polishing up his image (or TLC is anyway). But he did say that his dad was involved with disabled kids too. (a doctor, I think he said, operating on them?) So, this may be something near and dear to his heart that he really wants to do. I'm not gonna judge his intent. I'll just hope that it is all good.

Jon's dad was a dentist.

I don't think many people realize they are being shown out of sequence, and this shows Jon in a more favorable light. Lots of editing is going on to set this season up.

It certainly looked like the same shirts, so much so that I thought I was watching the ending of last week's episode. It was confusing. They were talking and interacting and it wouldn't have been obvious they were having marital problems based on that episode. They were laughing and sitting together (Mady in the middle) and seemed normal. I just don't understand how TLC is planning to spin this...Jon is on one side the country for the show and Kate is on another. That's not what they show purposed to be, it was them as a f-a-m-i-l-y. It's all very strange. :sad2:

I thought the exact same thing! I even said to DH - "is this the ending of last week's show?" Nope...it was this weeks.

Yes with Emeril

You mean while at Charm City? I would think the "silver fox" ;) would be there with them as they were 2 hours away from home and would take a bodyguard, wouldn't they?

I mean, Jon's trip just happened to take him out of town on her b-day, ya know? So, they either needed a bodyguard or two or a "stand-in DH".

I think it was crazy of Jon to plan a trip and "it just happened to fall on Kate's birthday". IMHO 1- you're either saying someone else planned the trip for you and you didn't know about the dates or 2 - he planned the trip and obviously didn't care that he wasn't there for her birthday. I'm thinking he didn't care but that's just me. And I don't think it would be a big deal in a house where they don't make a huge fuss over birthdays. My boys know when daddy's birthday is because it's the same day as DS4's. Do they make a fuss over my birthday? Nope - it's two weeks before Christmas and they have very different things on their mind - namely Santa. :santa:

Since Jon knew about it, the show along with him could have arranged the kids to wear those shirts. I think Kate could have just thought they were special for her b-day from TLC or something. I couldn't tell if she was really surprised or not. Watched that part twice and my conclusion was that she knew filming was happening that day but really didn't know about the trip. I could be wrong but that was my gut feeling.

I'd like to think they actually kept something from Kate so it could truly be a surprise. I don't think it would be too suspicious for someone from TLC to say "put the kids in matching birthday - ish outfits since we're filming your birthday episode" or Gymboree might have just sent over new clothes (I don't know how that works) and the kids couldn't wait to wear them. I'm sure she knew the filming was happening but maybe didn't have a good understanding of what all they'd be filming.

I did think - "gosh it'd be nice to have my own bus and driver when I wanted to take a trip!". Those 18 hour drives to MI to visit family would be much less stressful! :rotfl:

Jon's dad was a dentist.

That's what I thought too but I'm almost 100% sure Jon said his dad operated on them. I don't know what kind of dentristy he did...

This morning while dropping my kids off with the nanny, a lady was walking down the sidewalk in her development. She had on a bright floral print shorts outfit and a short hair cut. DS4 saw her and started screaming "stop Mommy! Stop!! You have to stop!" I couldn't figure out where the fuss was coming from. I finally got him to listen to me and tell me why we had to stop - "because that's KATE mommy! I want to talk to KATE mommy!!". Poor kid thought Kate Gosselin was walking down the sidewalk! :rotfl: I tried to explain but he wasn't hearing it at all. So, as it worked out, she was walking past the house as we were getting out. DS4 ran up to her and said "Hi Kate! I love you and the plus 8". :rotfl2: Poor woman had no clue what he was talking about!! I just apologized and she smiled and went on her way....:flower3:

Ok.....I just caught up on the thread, but still haven't watched last nights show yet because yesterday I was out riding with my sister for too many hours...(took a wrong turn and added about 2 hours to our ride!!) To keep this On topic we did talk a little about J&K on the ride!! :rotfl:

I NEED to be working out everyday, but I'm a full-time working mom who drives to and picks her son up from daycare everyday after working all day, come home to do laundry, cook supper, clean up after cooked supper, pick up toys around the house and tidy up a bit, bathe DS4, put on his jammies, fix his before bed glass of milk, tuck him in, and pray I have some energy to spend on hubby.

We all have responsibilities, but for me, these particular responsibilities take priority with me, personally. Do I feel bad about gaining the extra weight? Heck Yeah! Do I have the time right now to take an extra few minutes for myself and exercise? Probably. But, every once in awhile, I'd like to take a break (sleep, sit down), LOL!

So, I'm not knocking anyone who does these things at all. My point being with Kate is it just seems to be that she is doing this to keep up her "celebrity" image. Too much of a drastic change makes me wonder what the heck is going on? She seems self-absorbed to me, but that's JMHO. And not at all interested in her children. Sorry, but that's the way I see it.

Apparently you ARE knocking Kate for doing these things. I was a single working mom in the military and found time to exercise and do all those other things too...it's all about your priorities and not gaining weight is a big priority to me!

I'll be the first to say that even with only 2 kids, with both of them, even when they were younger (not newborns, but around 6 months and up), there were points where no I didn't jump straight out of bed when I could hear them up. They were almost always up and playing in their crib before I got up to get them. I knew they were safe and fine, and I can't imagine what I'd do with 6.

Same here...I know I stayed in bed while they stayed in their cribs at times.

Don't you think in a normal household that had 8 kids, there would be some interaction with neighbors, cousins, friends, etc.....? Maybe a few shows with cousins but never any neighbor or rarely a friend visiting. I would say the camera crews must of been at the old house a lot that none of this ever took place. You know the house in the neighborhood where all the kids like to hang. They sound like they were "celebrity status" right from the start. I think we will find out a lot more when the volunteer helpers start coming forward and telling what they witnessed with this family. Jon and Kate certainly had an agenda with these babies and accomplished much of it.
They chose to put their life on a reality show--nobody forced them. Other families with muliples survived without constant donations. There is nothing normal about what these poor kids are put through. The little ones like the camera--they don't have a choice!! I hope the kids have friends at school where things are not filmed and they aren't in a fish bowl! Just my opinion!

Not really....I never had a lot of people at my house when my kids were little. Only now that they are teenagers do I not mind their friends being over. I hated when they were little and had friends over and I don't hang out with friends at my house.

I just saw the season premiere again. And noticed that when the boys are fighting in the living room, one says "freaking genius". I can't stand that phrase. I fuss at my dh and my dd whose 23 when they say it.

I thought it was hysterical! :lmao:

Even with 8 kids if i knew i was going to be on tv I would run my fat tushy off on the treadmill. If she looked fat everyone would be commenting on that too.

You're not lying!!

I thought the same thing...the blue shirt in one interview segment and then the brown in the other segment. :confused3 Isn't that strange?

My DH has a few shirts that he Loves and will wear every day if I let him...why is that strange..

Although, there IS a mom at my niece's school who always looks perfect. My sister says it's amazing. She has 4 kids and she is always made-up, with hair done and fashionably dressed. Even when she drops the kids off at school in the morning. My sister thinks she must get up at 4am to look like that every day. :rotfl: She also says she's very nice though. To some people that kind of stuff is just really important.

I saw a couple of young mothers at the ZOO last month that looked like they stepped out of a fashion magazine with their nice clothes/hair and wearing HEELS AT THE ZOO!!

That's what I thought too but I'm almost 100% sure Jon said his dad operated on them. I don't know what kind of dentristy he did...

His dad was a pediatric dentist. The women who took over his practice has been on the show several times and I take my son there (she is wonderful!). I know special needs children usually have lots of dental problems and many times need complicated procedures done so I would think that is what Jon was referring too.

I thought it was interesting that they mentioned they only filmed 1 day of their San Diego vacation and the other days were just them. So many people miss things like that though and just assume the cameras are there the whole time.

I watched parts of last night's shows, but I found very little entertainment in watching them. I used to really enjoy J&K +8 in the early days (my 4 yr old dd has even commented that it is her favorite "adult" show). However, now it doesn't really seem like a reality show and looks very scripted.

It used to be about their normal (as normal as possible with 8 kids) day to day lives and now it's more about Jon or Kate traveling somewhere. And I don't think they are being "real" at all about their lives. In my opinion, they are split up and trying to keep the appearance of being together. He is going his way with the teacher and she is going her way with Mr. Gray.

She's always done it, but last night it really bugged me that Kate interupted Jon every time he tried to talk. She really comes accross as an extremely self absorbed person who always wants all of the attention. I think it is very telling that you read a lot of bad press about her, but you never read about anyone who knows her (or has met her) defending her. I've never read anyone who says "Kate is a great person" or "Kate is the nicest person I've ever met." I have read people (who know him) defend Jon and say that he is a nice guy.

It is my opinion that they have been split up for a much longer time than they admit and they both have been going their own ways. It's a reality show with very little reality. In the end, Jon and Kate both come accross as bad actors and the kids will pay the price for this farce for the rest of their lives.

Even with 8 kids if i knew i was going to be on tv I would run my fat tushy off on the treadmill. If she looked fat everyone would be commenting on that too.

I agree. Several of us here have said Kate is darned if she does, darned if she doesn't. If she says it's for her kids, someone comments on that. If she doesn't, someone will say, doesn't appear it's for her kids. If she takes one child out, shame on her for not being home when one gets hurt. If she's out working (which was 52 days in the past year, she again mentioned she did not go out for Mmulitple Blessings, less time than a mom working from home would have been out of the house), she doesn't spend enough time with her kids. If she's home and goes to the store, shame on her for not being in her house. If she is now getting up in the morning (maybe because she is no longer up in the middle of the night with babies) people want to know why can she suddenly get up in the morning, and how does she have time to exercise during that time. There is nothing that Kate can do, that will please some people.
I enjoyed both of these shows last night (which I watched this morning). I thought it was good that that Kate mentioned they were gone for four days, but only let them tape for one. It was great for Mady. I thought it was a great surprise, no matter who planned it, that she got to go to Duff's for her birthday. My family would have loved the opportunity to do that for me. I also enjoyed watching Jon at home with the kids. I thought he looked like he was enjoying it..something I haven't thought for awhile. I'm glad he got out to ski, and was able to not be recognized. They were good shows IMO, and it was nice to see everyone laughing so much. I like to watch TV and enjoy it, not watch pieces break apart.

Jon's dad was a dentist.

Ah...that makes sense! My niece is doing her residency for pediatric dentistry. They do "operate" when they do some of that dental work--esp. like a pp said, on special needs children. In fact, a client of mine with autism just had dental surgery done to have what needed to be done, done.

(Yes, I type like I talk. )

Yes with Emeril

I can't wait to see the one with Emeril.

That story about your son is cute. :flower3:
I had a similar experience yesterday. (not really, LOL) Was returning something to Old navy with DD and forgot tocheck the car locks until I was too far from the car so I handed the keys to DD (15) and asked her to go make sure it was locked. She walked and walked and I thought she was going to go all the way back up to the car so I yelled, "Just stop and do it from there!" And she did and turned around and "OK, Kate.":rotfl:
Uh, yeah, I seem to have a Kate moment like that every day...hmm.
If any little kid runs up to me and comments like that I may *thud smilie inserted here*

I have watched Jon and Kate off and on for a while and I found the episode I watched tonight odd. Was it just me or did it seem like Jon was trying to maybe polish up his image tonight? I applaud his helping kids with disabilities (didn't catch the whole episode but I assume that he was doing some volunteer work??) I do think it is rather unrealistic that most fathers of 8 have time to volunteer with other children but I realize he is not in the position of most fathers. I just thought that the timing was odd. Of all the episodes I have watched I don't remember him ever really doing anything of this sort before... ( feel free to correct me if I am wrong since as I said I have not watched the show regularly) that is before the world saw him riding around in the middle of night with some young woman.

No, the most charity work (or even acknowleging that there are other people on the Earth other than themselves) that has been shown is them writing a check to the Ronald McDonald house where they stayed when the tups were in the hospital. And even that looked like Kate was under great duress doing it. She looked totally out of her comfort zone being the giver instead of the "poor" receiver. It was almost as if she was scared that if she showed she could give, that people would think she no longer needed to receive.

Why did I watch last night? I keep telling myself I have better things to do with my life.

I was surprised by how much disdain I had for Jon last night. He seemed like a child. It really disgusted me.

I'm sick of hearing about how he quit his job two years ago to stay home with the kids. Isn't that what Kate did for three years?

They were good shows IMO, and it was nice to see everyone laughing so much. I like to watch TV and enjoy it, not watch pieces break apart.

You do know that this was filmed a while ago, before the scandal? They are airing shows out of sequence. The pieces are all over the floor. Now, if you just like to watch and don't mind that there is very little reality in this 'reality' show, that's your right.

it might have been before the story officially broke -- but I've seen it mentioned on other sites that the teacher went to Utah with him.

I wondered about this while I was watching the show last night. If he really was away with his girlfriend on his wife's birthday I think that just shows that he is truly done with this marriage.

I believe they also wrapped and presented gifts to St Judd's hospital kids. I have no idea if they keep other charity giving between themselves and God.

Edited to add that they also had a garage sale and all the funds went to children's cancer research. It was mentioned that that was not the first garage sale they have done this for. They were trying to give back some of what was given to them.
