Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

I have to get involved in the long/short hair debate in Kate's defense. I have superthick hair and I get headaches when it's in a ponytail or barrette. Maybe it's not just a hair thing, but a combo of hair and head because I know other women with thick hair don't have this problem.

Unfortunately, my hair doesn't look very good short either because it's so bushy, but I have tried again and again with long hair to just pull back in a pony and my head throbs by the end of the day. Also, can't just tuck it behind my ears because it's so thick it flops out into my face. I have hair similar to Kate's, although not so extreme in varying lengths and stripes. I spend zero time on it in the morning. I wash, brush in a little product and don't even use a blowdryer or anything.

A lot of people with thick hair gets headaches when it is long. It is a very common complaint.
Also very common to have ears too little and/or close to the head to tuck the hair behing the ears to have it stay. I am sure that is one reason kate thins that side of her hair out so much. Otherwise it wouldn't stay.

I have thick hair also.

Your bolded part above is the sign of a good cut for sure. :) I still have to style mine with a blow dryer and flat iron but it is very quick.

I wish I could give you some of mine. It is such a pain. It is long right now and when I pull it back I get a headache. I had a baby 9 months ago and lost a lot and I was actually happy until I noticed it all growing back and now I look like a little kid because i have all this new hair growing on my hair line and it stands up and it is thick!!! My mother is a hairdresser in Atlanta and she says I probably some of the thickest hair she has ever seen and she has been doing hair for about 35 years.

Please take my hair!!!:lmao:

Lets set up a swap! :lmao:

Actually my daughter has thin hair but a ton of it. Before her first communion I took her to my stylist to get a good cut. She pulled out the thinning shears! :scared1: I was like wow I didn't think you even owned a pair of those. :rotfl:

Just dropping in to catch up (boy does this thread fly!).

I remember some pages back discussion about when the season 5 episodes were taped, as obviously thet are not being shown in chronological order. Anyway, has anyone else with TIVO noticed that the premiere is shown as episode 140, Kate's b-day trip to Duff's is episode 138, and Kate's trip to San Diego is episode 136?

Would this order better match the order in which they were filmed? And where/what are episodes 137 and 139?

Exactly. We all parent differently.

I would not have ever thought about my DD not taking a nap, at home, in her bed. I see people walking around the mall all the time letting their kids sleep in the stroller. Does that make them a bad parent? Nope, just something I never would do. My sister put hers down for a nap and they were not to get up out of bed for anything except to use the bathroom. If they woke up from the nap they were to stay in that bed--rest quietly or look at a book or play with a toy quietly. I can remember seeing my niece stretching to reach for a book whole keeping one hand on the bed! LOL
Pretty extreme if you ask me but those were her rules and that's how she parented. Like I said, we all do it differently. When mine finally woke up (naps were 3 or 4 hours!) I couldn't wait to get to her asap! I missed her. If DH was home, we'd fight to get there first! LOL

I was on the phone to my sister and she heard me be all excited about DD getting off the bus. She was like boy it sounds like you missed her!

Kate is that you??? No seriously, I don't think anyone is proKate or proJon at this moment. We have said things about both of them, but I do remember her letting the kids stay in bed until she was ready to get out of bed and the older girls did go in there and entertain until she got up. I am sorry, I am a mom of 3 and I could not imagine doing that. My oldest one is 9 and yes I have asked him to watch the youngest one while I go to the bathroom or somthing but the minute my baby wakes up I am up. Now before he was born, which was 9 months ago, if my two older ones got up, I did not have to get up with them because they were older and could take care of themselves. A baby is different

I would also have someone with me if I had 8 kids and going on vacation. I wish I had someone with 3 lol, I don't think that is the problem. I don't think there is a problem with her making herself look better,I think all women should do their best to make themselves look their best. I don't think a man wants to be married to an ugly women. I do think it can make their eye wonder if their wife looks bad. Not that I am saying a man should cheat if he wife can not take care of herself but a marriage needs work on both sides.

Sorry to see you leave but you seem to want everyone to agree with what you are saying and if they don't then they are wrong. I posted something this morning and you came after me and I had to leave for a while because I just could not deal with it but I am back and I know that everyone is going to see things differently. Thank god because it would be a boring place if everyone agreed with me.

I'll be the first to say that even with only 2 kids, with both of them, even when they were younger (not newborns, but around 6 months and up), there were points where no I didn't jump straight out of bed when I could hear them up. They were almost always up and playing in their crib before I got up to get them. I knew they were safe and fine, and I can't imagine what I'd do with 6.

I understand what you are saying and I will say that at naptime I let him stay there until I know he is ready to get out, which means crying but if I hear him and he is talking and playing then I let him stay there because he is happy and he may need some down time to wake up. Now with that said, I would not do that if I knew he had been up a long time and I had to send another child in there to make him happy until I felt like getting out of bed.

I have the "Kate do" and it takes me about 25 minutes to shower, wash my hair and do my hair. That is why I love it!! EASY PEASY!! I can also wear it crazy or flat. Love that too.

I say good for Kate. I don't see all the bashing because she is putting some time and effort into looking good as anything but jealousy, enby and plain sour grapes. If I had 8 kids I would have a nanny too!!! Is she perfect no, noone is. Is jon perfect no he isn't either. But to slam someone for looking good even through surgery is a bit much for me.

this whole conversation came about from comments made about Kate not being a morning person last year and telling Oprah in March that she gets up at 5am to walk on the treadmill. I don't see people bashing Kate for working out... but I'm a few pages behind, maybe I missed it.

Personally, I think Kate is in good physical shape (especially for having 8 children) and dresses well, but looks ridic with the orange tan and the stripey, spikey hair. But it works for her, so that's what counts!

I remember leaving WDW probably 2 years ago and saying to my hairdresser when I got home,"I want something new. I saw myself coming and going with this type style." She replied that it would be around for awhile because people can actually fix this shorter style and it is so easy. That is so true.
By "crazy" you mean the tail feathers don't you? I gotta hand it to you, I am too conservative for those spikes in the back,

I know that before they edited last week's episode, Kate's birthday and the sextuplets birthday shows were both supposed to be shown last Monday. I guess they had to do some serious shuffling for the season opener!

and I haven't had time to blog surf lately, to see if anyone figured out when the San Diego trip actually happened. I thought for sure it was when Kate was doing the book thing, but it doesn't match up with the clothes the kids are wearing in Pennsylvania at that time. (they're wearing colder weather clothes) Jon and Kate are also almost chummy on the couch, albeit with a child in between them .. but it doesn't seem nearly as tense as last week's couch talks.

But wasn't the couch scene shot before the public knew they were having problems? Even before season 4 finale? It's just my thought.

Kind of off topic, but I know we've brought up the Dionne quintuplets before. They were five identical girls born in Canada who were exploited by their caretakers -- their playtime was put on display for tourists to pay to watch, their images were used to sell products, they were dragged here, there and everywhere for appearances. They became global "celebrities," (without ever having any say in the matter.) Everyone knew who they were and they later wrote bitterly about how this negatively impacted their lives. Many, many people got rich off these children -- the children themselves went on to live rather sad lives.

When the McCaughey multiples were born, the three remaining Dionne quints sent this letter to the parents. I just recently came across it.:

"Dear Bobbi and Kenny,

If we emerge momentarily from the privacy we have sought all our adult lives, it is only to send a message to the McCaughey family. We three would like you to know we feel a natural affinity and tenderness for your children. We hope your children receive more respect than we did. Their fate should be no different from that of other children. Multiple births should not be confused with entertainment, nor should they be an opportunity to sell products.

Our lives have been ruined by the exploitation we suffered at the hands of the government of Ontario, our place of birth. We were displayed as a curiosity three times a day for millions of tourists. To this day we receive letters from all over the world. To all those who have expressed their support in light of the abuse we have endured, we say thank you. And to those who would seek to exploit the growing fame of these children, we say beware.

We sincerely hope a lesson will be learned from examining how our lives were forever altered by our childhood experience.
If this letter changes the course of events for these newborns, then perhaps our lives will have served a higher purpose.

Sincerely, Annette, Cecile and Yvonne Dionne"

I just think these are powerful words from people who have "been there and done that." Do Jon & Kate not worry about how this is going to impact their kids -- like it did the Dionne kids? Or that perhaps the kids are going to someday resent how their parents marketed them? I mean, "Eight Little Faces?" There is nothing in that book but the children's photos and a few Bible verses. The family is literally making money off of their images.

The difference with the Dionne quintuplets was that they were forcibly removed from their parents as newborns and cared for by a variety of staff with little apparent affection and made to 'perform' daily for the viewing public in a very artifical environment for many years.

When they were eventually returned to their parents care they were abused by their father. They also never received any financial benefits during their explotation, and only received compensation from the Canadian government many years later.

In all honesty I would say there is very little in common with any high order multiple families in recent history.

i dont watch this show or keep up on all the stories about them but i could have sworn that i saw them at disney world a few weeks ago..someone with a giant navy blue van looking just like john driving pulled up next to us at epcot and my dh rushed me on so i didnt get to see if the woman looked like her or not. does anyone know if they might have been there?

yes -- in either scenario I'm thinking about, it would have been before the public knew there were problems. there was some speculation the San Deigo show was filmed when Jon and Kate were seen coming out of Mr. Chow's. Kate and Mady apparently stayed in California, and Jon went back to Pennsylvania with the other children. I wonder if they'll mention when the show was filmed or now.

Don't you think in a normal household that had 8 kids, there would be some interaction with neighbors, cousins, friends, etc.....? Maybe a few shows with cousins but never any neighbor or rarely a friend visiting. I would say the camera crews must of been at the old house a lot that none of this ever took place. You know the house in the neighborhood where all the kids like to hang. They sound like they were "celebrity status" right from the start. I think we will find out a lot more when the volunteer helpers start coming forward and telling what they witnessed with this family. Jon and Kate certainly had an agenda with these babies and accomplished much of it.
They chose to put their life on a reality show--nobody forced them. Other families with muliples survived without constant donations. There is nothing normal about what these poor kids are put through. The little ones like the camera--they don't have a choice!! I hope the kids have friends at school where things are not filmed and they aren't in a fish bowl! Just my opinion!

I know they were in Florida a wee while ago, I'm sure Madge will know exactly! I hadn't heard about WDW.

:upsidedow the last time Florida was mentioned here was when a DISer saw Jon at a bakery in Florida, back in March .. but it wasn't the Disney/Orlando area.

Kate's had a pretty hectic travel schedule for the last few months. I'm not sure when they would have had time to visit WDW.
