I mentioned upthread, I don't think it's unreasonable for Kate to be out -- it isn't what I'd choose to do, but I'm lazy like that, especially on Sundays. :upsidedow

my "issue" (and in no way a big deal at all ..) is that I believe that it was a photo op for the tabloids... although a better/different photo op would have been Kate playing with the children instead of being photographed in front of a tanning salon.

then again, it may not have been a set up shot. Kate may not have realized the paps were in town. it was the first day back in a while, and maybe she thought she could run some errands in peace.

You're right Madge, she may not have been fully aware of just how much intense coverage /scrutiny they were under. But I'm sure she knows now!!! LOL!

Why does it matter what she days on her day?? Mothers day is her day who cares what she does on that day

I can certainly agree with that .. in reality, it doesn't matter what Kate Gosselin does on any given day. people spend their time in ways I wouldn't choose to all the time.

Hi guys, I just saw this discussion (which came through my website) and I would like to clear up the confusion for you (sorry):

PAPrincess, you are right ... I forgot that State Hill Road turns into Wyomissing BLVD ... Jon actually lived on this road! Sorry it's been a long time (I now live in Boca Raton) and I haven't been in the neighborhood for quite some time. Besides, I met Jon in my twenties, not during High School (I went to the Dump on the Hump/Reading High - Class of 91) However, everything I said was true!

McDiser: Sorry, I really didn't write that article to grab any spotlights! I'm a writer, and moneyremix is just one of my blogs. With all this talk about these two in the news, I thought I'd just give my opinion/two cents of Jon, who by the way was a solid individual when I knew him (pretty honest too), and how greed sometimes tears people apart (moneyremix is a lighthearted financial blog, by the way). I just thought it would be nice to talk about with my readers. I'm seriously not pulling an Aunt Jodie! Besides, I don't want any media attention anyways!

Another poster called us delusional for trying to sell a convertible, but our idea was so much more than that (engine type, features, etc.) and I had drawings and a clay sculpture of what it should look like, and we were shot down! Still don't want to talk about it - LOL!

Well, I hope I cleared some things up, and that you won't be too mean on me when I get out of here. If you have any further questions, why not send me a comment on my blog (I could always use some more readers anyways) because I don't think I'll be writing on this DISblog anymore (I don't care for Disney, which is three hours away)!

Sincerely,

Peter Allen Fick

My favorite term of the day -- "Pulling an Aunt Jodi"!!! LOL!

one of the things I find fascinating about the posters who feel so strongly about Kate working, is that they all seem to mention that Kate needs to earn this money .. that she won't be able to work forever.. and if she stopped today, they might be living in a box under a bridge next week. (that last part might be a little extreme .. but, you get the point ;) )

I've seen several reports today that estimate the Gosselin's worth is upwards of 10 million dollars. And even if they stopped the show now, there are still DVD residuals, book sales, etc. to be earned for a while. That's a LOT of money... even if she split that with Jon in a divorce and set up trust funds for the children's college expenses, etc. it's a lot. Is it enough? That's not for me to say ..

sounds like a tag to me, LOL!

I might start using it with my friends, although no one I know has ever "pulled an Aunt Jodi." :rotfl:

(FWIW, we have adopted the term "Zapruding", which is when you watch a video or TV show on slow motion trying to pick out some obscure thing that's happening. Abe Zapruder is the person who filmed that famous video of JFK being assassinated. We use the term as an homage to people who have watched that video trying to figure out if there was more than one gunman.)

I don't know...who knows what could happen with the economy (starting to hate that word). I think it's smart to continue to market the brand as long as people will let them. Do I think it's smart to keep the show itself going? I don't know, actually. I'm undecided.

In my mind, the book tour is(was?) a temporary situation to garner some publicity for the book and the brand. It's not like she's been jet-setting the entire time. It seems the scandal may have garnered more publicity than the tour, anyway, so she could probably stay home for a while and ride that wave.

I don't really care what she did on Mothers Day. I feel that she used going to the tanning salon as a tabloid photo op.

Seriously? Anytime she steps outside of her house it's a tabloid photo op. Look at the kids' birthday party -- there were photographers in the trees. What's she supposed to do, stay indoors with the shades drawn?

If she wants to use the paparazzi to her advantage, I say so be it.

Don't you think that Jon, or someone who works for them would have told her?? What little bit I have seen of Monday's episode Jon says I have Paparazzi outside my house 24/7.

I said I would only lurk,
but I just saw this during my lunch break.
Huge breaking news story on the AP

APNewsBreak: Pa. probing 'Jon & Kate' complaintThe Associated Press, May 29, 2009
WERNERSVILLE, Pa. (AP) -- Jon, Kate and their eight children have attracted a huge TV audience, screaming tabloid headlines and, now, a state labor investigation.

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor says it's looking into whether the hit reality show "Jon & Kate Plus 8" is complying with child labor laws.

The TLC series follows Jon and Kate Gosselin as they raise their eight young children, including 8-year-old twins and sextuplets who just turned 5. The show drew nearly 10 million viewers for its fifth-season premiere Monday following reports of trouble in the Gosselins' marriage.

Labor Department spokesman Justin Fleming tells The Associated Press that the department is looking into a complaint against the show.

TLC says it "fully complies" with state laws and regulations.

AP Television Writer Frazier Moore contributed to this story from New York.

I'm sure TLC has their donkey butts covered, but you never know.

funny thing about the brand .. I didn't realize how many people had not heard of Jon and Kate Plus 8 before this recent media blitz. I'm seeing dozens of blog entries/news clips that all say things like the people you've never heard of that you don't care about. die hard readers of JustJared (another site I'd never heard of) and PerezHilton (love or hate it, there's a large following there) are complaining that they've never heard of the Gosselins, and are sick of seeing them on the respective sites. I think the market was oversaturated very quickly.

At the end of the day, I wonder if Kate (alone without Jon) has a widespread market appeal that has staying power. I guess we'll have to wait and see...

the key phrase is
TLC says it "fully complies" with state laws and regulations.

it's been reported that Pennsylania doesn't have laws that protect the Gosselin children .. so TLC may be complying, but it won't matter in the bigger picture. The kids aren't "actors", they're children on a "reality" show.

But she was there for them at home up until the last year, it's not as if she has been doing this hectic schedule since their birth.:confused3

And marriage and parenthood is a partnership - both parties can and should 'hands on parent'.

It's pretty obvious that at the present time Kate has the potential to earn more $, so I don't see any reason for her not to take advantage of that potential, and I do think she's doing it for the children. If Jon could be the major earner in the family I'm sure he would be out working/travelling.

She's savvy enough to realise that the show does have an end point so she's taking advantage of it while she can.[/

This is what I truly hope is the case. This show is running its course and once all the kids are in school I can see it winding down to maybe some specials throughout the year.

I'm sure the Gosselin's have plenty of money but hopefully Kate is looking to the future. There will be 8 kids to buy cars for, insurance for the cars, college which will be $100,000+ per child, 5 weddings for the girls, etc. in addition to the everyday expenses.

I'm not sure that Jon's saying hi, bye, or kiss my toe to Kate right now. LOL.

I totally think it was a set up by Kate, to try to look involved by picking up the cake... and yes, I know, that really could have been what she was doing and not set up. I'll save someone that argument. LOLOL.
