Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

I have to ask, did anyone enjoy the show? Think it was just great to see the kids and their b-day?

What do regular people do when they fall on hard times? If they are smart, they cut back and make do. Is Kate not capable of this? I guess if you are entitled to your wealth and fame.... It will end one way or another, so it's best to plan for the lean times just like ordinary people do.

And to answer the question if I would put my kids on tv to make money-NO! Money does not buy happiness and I like my life as is. Happiness is wanting what you have. I thank Someone every day for all that I have. ;)

Those kids are working being filmed every second of their lives and we have no proof they are being paid as individuals. Jon and Kate make the money and we have to hope some if it is being set aside in the kids names. Their whole life is staged to make a tv show. That is not a childhood I would want for my kids. Gymboree clothes and trips to a museum do not hold that much value for me!
There is a law that parents of kids in the entertainment field have to put atleast 20 percent in a savings account for them.

The best of financial planners right now just don't have anything to work with. They haven't been able to sell the old house..the housing market is also in the dumps. They may owe more on the second house than they could get right now. It isn't like it was two years ago. People on the Dis have mentioned that they have lost their retirement.

This is on the front page of AOL right now:

"Edmund Andrews (right), an economics reporter for the New York Times, was covering the market meltdown as a journalist -- and, to his dismay, living the meltdown at home. Turns out all the economic expertise in the world couldn't keep the subprime crisis from tearing apart his personal finances and his new marriage."

Maybe two years ago, it would have been easy to say, just live off your savings, or sell the house, but not so much right now. Times are tough even for people who two years ago had a lot of money.

I only mentioned the dogs, in reference to what I thought would be the reaction to Kate, on this thread, if the dogs went. I saw the reaction when they just thought they had heard they were going to go because of allergies. She was somehow a witch for something she didn't even do.

And as I mentioned, I'm not sure either of them are very employable in their chosen fields right now.

Well, I would hope that they have been working with a financial advisor to make sure that they have a nest egg to fall back on. I hope that they didn't think the show would go on forever.

They have two houses right now. Sell them both and buy a new one. If they aren't on TV anymore and the cash flow from the books, clothing, speaking engagement stops then so will the interest in the family. Yes, there may be cameras for a short time, but people will stop caring. The paparazzi will find a new target and they will be left alone.

The kids will be in school full time so no one will need to be home all day, every day. Kate can work a 9-5 like the rest of America and be with the kids at night.

A lot of people have to get rid of pets when times get tough or sacrifice other things to pay for their animals. It's a part of life, why should the Gosselins be any different when times get tough? Because they have 8 kids? A lot of families have multiple children to care for, not just them.

:thumbsup2

Ok I'm sorry the whole car thing cracks me up. Mainly because my sister is up in arms about the car my DH bough 3 years ago!!! Hello he didn't spend your money it was our money. She thinks it's impractical for a man with kids. It's a mini cooper. I point out that all 4 of us fit into it. Granted the kids fit better when we bought it, 3 years ago. It's the car DH has always wanted since I have known him and when Cooper made them. He had his previous car for 15 years, he's the 1 that goes to work everyday so I say he can drive the car he wants. And oh by the way he didn't tell me until the next day that he order it, and that was by a skype :rotfl:

Leave the dogs out of this mess, these 2 adults created. I really hate to read people write off the cuffs comments about pets being disposable when times get tough. Thankfully I am sure these 2 pure bred dogs we be able to find homes. There are too many people who do not take pet ownership seriously and I have zero tollerance for any off the cuff comments that support that mentality. Don't breed or buy while shelter dogs die. Until there are none adopt one. Spay and neuter your furry family members.

Hmm..the pic's I saw, she was driving his car (the 23 year old). She said it was his. At the party, he got out of a sports car. Kate said he bought it without talking to her about it. Maybe she was lying or misunderstood. I would say I would not be surprised to find he has a truck as well, but I have nothing to back that up.

As for the car, I don't believe he really bought it. In the pics with the girl it was a truck, and in last night's show it was a car...

We never did find out who is paying for the new house. If TLC is paying for it then J&K could just move back to the old house.

I saw an interview with Kate and she was talking about having 2 mortgages currently so I believe J & K are paying for the house.

You do think he tried to fix it? And then when it didn't get fixed, he went out partying with college students and went out of a bar with a 23 year old? Wow, I'm glad my husband never tried to fix anything that way.

We saw what TLC wanted us to see as far as the last show of the season. If Jon wanted to be out of the show, he's a big boy..he could have left, and paid off his contract. But there he was, in the new season. I think Jon likes the money (trip to Utah, Hawaii, fancy sports car, nice house), and that he somehow thinks he can cut out and it will still be there. I didn't see Jon trying to slow down his spending. Kate did say in the mag interview that she kept doing things she thought would make him happy, but apparently nothing did. I think he was along for the ride, and now, darn it, the paparazzi are on to him, and he feels like he is in jail..no more sneaking out without everyone knowing about it. At this point, he should move into the old house, pay the bills out of his share of the money, while the contract plays out, or the new house gets sold, or whatever they decide to do. I'm betting when his money starts to dry up, he'll have a change of heart.

You look at the whole situation so one sided. Kate=angel / Jon=bad. Honestly, reading some of your posts, one would wonder if you weren't Kate herself. Kate would have this much time to be on a board because her "babysitters" cough nannies cough cough would be raising the kids.

I am not defending Jons obvious affair. I have always thought that Jon for the first years was quite happy with all the free stuff and didn't worry to much about what the show would do to the kids. I don't think he is at all innocent. But him being wrong, doesn't make Kate right either. She is just as bad in every way and alot worse in many others. I think he still likes the free stuff and trips, but just doesn't think putting up with Kate is worth it all anymore.

He said he wanted the show to stop. That he rather have privacy. He was ready to go back to the way they used to live. He said it one national TV and straight to Kate, and she looked right through him and didn't care one bit. That was when their marriage ended. When you say he could be a big boy and left, fi he did, that would have been walking out on the kids. He wanted to stay with his kids. He tried to stay with Kate. Kate could care less what he wants, so it all blew up.

Kate said her and John paid for the house and have the mortgage to prove it. But I thought TLC was involved at one point. But who the heck knows what is true anymore.

comments about pets being disposable when times get tough.

Unfortunately, that is another sign of the times. As a cat rescue volunteer, many people just move out of their homes and leave their cats behind. We have more people than ever asking if we can take their pets, because either the relative they are moving in with, or the shelter, won't take pets. If they have a place for them, we do try to help them with 3 months worth of food and litter. We take as many as we are able, never enough :(

I agree with he spay and neuter. Two unfixed cats and their offspring can produce 720,000 kittens in 7 years. We offer a very low cost as well as a free s/n clinic. If you live in upstate NY, we can help you get your car spay or neutered! Ok, I got my ad in LOL.

Apparently the same rule applies in his house so he was just purchasing housing for himself. :rotfl:

And hey, who are we to judge? Maybe he had a coupon?!

:rotfl2:

Maybe he had a REALLY good coupon for it!
Since nothing is bought w/o a COUPON!!
Or maybe there was a really good rebate???

Hopefully he gave her the reciept.

I bet the sports car was donated!! Why shouldn't Jon drive around in style while Kate tries to park that gigantic van with the papparazi watching!! At least Jon had the girlfriend drive so no one could say he was DWI!!

that's also part of the reality tv issue .. these kids aren't under the same classification as child actors.

I am not sure if you have read all of DMRICK's post because she is usually very neutral. She see's both sides and tells us all not to make up things when they are not fact. I have actually learned somethings from her.

the article where Kate mentions the car was in this issue of people magazine:
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20278472,00.html

scans can be seen here:

how do you know the girl driving the car hadn't been drinking?

I can't find anything that says one way or another. I think in the case of Jon and Kate I would bet my house on it they have college accounts for the kids

1) How do we know it wasn't discussed with Kate? Do you have a link to an article where she stated she wasn't made aware that Jon was buying the car? Kate said so in the People article.

2) He stated very clearly on the Season 4 finale, he was having major issues dealing with the stress of things. She said she loved how things were, there was the main problem, no compromise. She had book deals, clothing deals, and something with Walmart, they weren't going to starve if the show ended. He told her that he wanted to end their sources of income while purchasing a new car. To me, those are contradicting statements. Sometimes actions speak louder than words.

No amount of money is worth having your kids and your family followed by photographers all the time.Absolutely I agree!

I think purchasing the car was a spiteful action on his part. The ultimate passive-agressive statement.
