Do you think the lady that had the children in CA,
is now going to hurt Jon and Kate?

I think Jon and Kate have sort of been flying under the radar
with their show. To me, it has sort of been a little "cult show"
we watch on TLC.
But within the last 2 weeks, or even just the last couple of days
the whole situation has been brought up on every venue possible.
If I were Jon and Kate, I would maybe not do any interviews for awhile.

The article I posted on the previous page commeneted on how much J&K's viewings went UP since this story. I posted another story on the previous page about how TLC's been talking to this lady from CA but wanted to see (something like - can't remember the quote) "how camera friendly" she'd be or something. Maybe it's working for J&K to keep up the interviews and publicity since there really haven't been other offers (that I've read) made to the mom from CA...just my opinion.

I think in the short run J&K will only benefit from this octuplit story.

I am not sure I would watch a show (weekly) about this other lady. I totally do NOT agree with what she did. Having 6 kids as a single parent and then still having more...

I don't know .. it depends. This may be the breakout exposure Kate has been waiting for. You're right, Kate has been the "go to" mom on panels about the octuplet family.

I've read that it's rumored TLC is in talks with that octuplet mom. no idea if that's true or not. I have no doubt she'll be all over the place (media) as soon as she's able.

one of the things I noticed on Larry King the other night .. Kate was very carefully stepping around the issue of how (the method) that woman chose to have her babies. I don't understand fertility issues at all, but do know that Kate Gosselin and this other woman had different procedures that led to multiple births. I also know that what Kate chose to do has been under the microscope for as long as there have been message boards and blogs. While they're enjoying higher ratings for JK8, I'm wondering if it isn't also opening a can of worms about Kate's fertility treatment as well.

I have a feeling this isn't going to be good for Jon and Kate.
In my previous post, I said, the show is popular, but not that popular if it makes any sense. I can talk to people where I live, and they have no clue about the show.

I think so too that the show is going to start getting "unwanted attention".

You also said Madge, that "this is the breakout that Kate has been waiting for".
Do you think she wants to become an actress? or someone like Martha Steward?

I totally understand. I know as many (if not more) people that have no idea what Jon & Kate is. Most of them are older or people without young kids, though. LOL. My younger mommy friends all know about the show, LOL.

I definitely see that as a possibility. I'm not sure I'd want to be connected with this octuplet mother. I said upthread that I thought Jim Bob Duggar was very wise in staying away.

Oh, I definitely think Kate has aspirations for something bigger. Not sure about the acting, but I think she sees herself as a spokesperson type. I think we're already seeing that. Kate seems to be doing a lot of speaking engagements on her own.

Are you kidding, this is a PR dream!! Everyone I talk to knows who they are. Now, compared to this lady, they look ten tines better. They're going to tear it up with interviews!! From a PR prac. POV, I'd have Kate send things to the new mom. Makes her look benevolent without having to really support her decision.

I wonder how those who begrudge JK having all these extras will feel about this mom who is draining her family.

Ok so I came across this interview (http://weheartlogan.blogspot.com/2007/10/jon-and-kate-plus-8-who-would-take.html) and was curious to see if they ever mentioned the outcome of who would get the kids if something happened to J&K. The article doesn't say but comments below the article said it was down to Kate's brother and sis in law (that's Jodi right???) or another couple who watched some of the babies early on (would that be Beth??). Now that (potentially) neither of these people are in their lives anymore, who would get the kids if something happened to them? If they never changed the papers and one of the two previously mentioned got the kids, what do you think would happen (i.e. how would the kid's lives change)? Just something I started thinking about today while I was looking at some different stuff...

I think to call this a PR dream might be pushing it, just a tad. I do think that Kate/TLC is taking advantage of a opportunity here .. but, Kate's people need to be careful not to let her stray from the script too much. As I said earlier, I know Kate had a different procedure (no idea how it's different, though) prior to her pregnancy, but the fact of the matter is, Kate did have fertility treatments. Twice. Not everyone is educated on the different kinds of fertility treatments, or know who Kate Gosselin is. By Kate supporting this woman, she's lumping herself in the same boat ... and I could see where that would translate to negative press for Kate. People are reacting very negatively to the octuplet mom.

But at the same time, I can see it being a good thing for Kate.

I just think her people need to be careful .. just enough exposure, but not too much. It's a fine line here, IMO.

I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at....

I believe Kate had IUF. They gave her fertitlity drugs monitered when she ovulated (this can cause multiple eggs) then inserted the sperm. The California lady had IVF. They gave her fertility drugs, harvested eggs, fertilized them in the lab, then inserted the fertilized eggs back into her. In Kates case they did not know how many eggs would make it to the womb and fertilize. In the California case she knew exactly how many eggs she had left from the earlier IVF's and had an exact number placed.

are IUF and IUI the same thing? I googled, and think I read that Kate had IUI. I still don't know what that means, LOL .. your explanation helps, though. thanks!

Yeah it's probably IUI and I got the last letter wrong, I just know that it was not the IVF and I probalby just got the F part stuck in my brain. LOL

Is Kate supporting this woman's decision? I think there are OBVIOUS differences in these cases. I think most intelligent people can tell the difference, as well. Those who aren't intelligent are probably not going to be the movers and shakers who could effect the Gosselins gravy train.

So, for some reason, I saw none of the rest of the posts today (aside from the one I quoted) on my computer at work. :confused3 I'll have to come back and read them this evening.

I know Kate has called their scenerio a fertility treatment nightmare which seperates her from the woman who purposely implanted eight embryos with the purpose of keeping them all.

Is Kate supporting this woman's decision?

she very carefully answered questions related to the octuplet mom on Larry King. ... this is a transcript of part of the interview. I will add, that Kate answered this with some thought ..I don't know that she is supporting or not supporting this mother's decision. I am inclined to say no, based on what I saw on LKL, but at the same time, I know that Jon & Kate are opposed to fetal reduction, and used "modern medicine" as the reason why they should have the nurse for another year.

KING: Kate, we learned that Nadia's mother says Nadia had eight leftover frozen embryos from a previous in vitro session, had them all implanted because she didn't want them destroyed. And later, when given the option to abort some of the resulting fetuses, she refused.

What do you make of that?

K. GOSSELIN: You know, honestly, I believe that every life that is created is created for a purpose. But I feel like responsibility needs to come into this. If that is the truth, it scares me.

In our situation, we set out for a third child. We actually did IUI, which is intra uterine insemination, where the ovaries are stimulated and then the sperm is implanted and basically whatever happens happens.

And in no way, shape, or form did we ever set out to have multiples again. But we're aware that that could happen.

So, you know, it's just one of those situations. I always say, modern medicine is not perfected and everybody needs to make their own decision where they are concerned.

even still, I know that Kate's own fertility treatments & choices have been scrutinized since day one. Just for different reasons.

has this been posted? Kate's interview with Access Hollywood?

the new part starts around 2:30 into the video:

Back to the IUI discussion - I remember hearing somewhere that Kate had u/s monitoring during the cycle where she conceived the tups which showed 3, possibly 4 mature follicles. She chose to go ahead with the cycle and ended up being surprised that 7 eggs were fertilized (one did not survivie).

She had also been hospitalized in the past with hyper-stimulated ovaries, and had a set of twins.

She is choosing her words carefully, because while they set out in the beginning they set out to have just one, even before fertilization, she knew there would be a very strong possibility of multiples.
