Joining DVC or buying USED?

Hi!

I've been reading many posts where peope say they bought or are going to buy "used"? Do the people mean they are buying from someone who is selling their whole DVC membership? And I see that there is a DVC Resale website, is that the same idea? Are there advantages to buying used, etc..?? Thanks

You can buy "used" which is called a resale. One advantage is that you can buy at OKW or BWV which are already sold-out and can no longer be bought through Disney.
The other advantage is the price is more like $65 - $68 per point as opposed to $75 through Disney. The best resale sites are http://www.wdwinfo.com/timeshare/dvclisting.cfm

You can make a lower offer than the listing price (maybe about $2-3/point lower?). Keep in mind that buying directly through Disney you don't have to pay closing costs (about $450 or so with a resale)and you can make reservations right away (resales can take 6-8 weeks).
Another advantage buying resale is sometimes they come with banked points but the flip side is some have borrowed from next year's points. Those that have borrowed points can still be a good deal if they are priced lower and if you weren't planning on another WDW trip for a while anyway.

I just bought a resale and it closed in less then 3 weeks. I highly recommend Jaki at atimeshare.com. Jaki was wonderful. The best thing you can do before you purchase is evaluate all of the properties and choose the one that best fits your needs. Good luck.

Just one point of clarification, your subjet is "Joining DVC or buying used". No matter which way you go you are joining DVC, there is no difference if you buy resale or buy through Disney. You are a full DVC member and Disney does not distinguish between resale buyers and Disney buyers. All the same benefits.
