The conservative press has questioned whether Kerry received an honorable discharge. I decided to check for myself.
There is a page on Kerry's website entitled "John Kerry's Service Timeline"
http://www.johnkerry.com/about/john_kerry/service_timeline.html
Scroll all the way to the bottom. This is how the timeline ends:
Why is there no mention of an honorable discharge?
I believe he served in the reserves afterwards. Could it be that people who go from active duty to the reserves don't get the usual classification of discharge (honorable, dishonorable etc.)? Maybe a military person on these boards can answer that.
If Kerry could have gotten an honorable discharge in 1970 and his website just mentions a "date of separation" I would guess that there might be something to this story.
Why does Kerry's own timeline end with something called a "date of separation", why does he describe himself as someone "who has completed service" instead of someone who was honorably discharged?
The mainstream media is not going to touch this of course. Maybe a fellow disboarder with a military background can explain it to me. Thanks.

January 3, 1970 Kerry requests discharge
March 1, 1970 Kerrys date of separation from Active Duty
April 29, 1970 Kerry listed as Registrant who has completed service
