John Edwards chosen by Kerry as VP

No, he mainly took cases he new he could make boatloads of money from. Not that I begrudge him that. I love money as much as the next guy, but.. it really doesn't fit with the principles the Democratic party preaches.
Hmmm...Now, why is the term "unfounded accusation" coming to mind ? :rolleyes3

RICHIEBASEBALL Thanks for the link ! That was actually a pretty fair look at Edwards, I thought....Certainly more so than anything we've seen here :)

Depends on where you live in West Virginia.....In some of the southern counties, the Graveyard Vote has always been a fairly important part of the electorate :teeth:

:) I knew you would catch it!

Based on a article I read in the New York Times interviewing folks that worked with Edwards. But, thinking about it some more, considering the source I relied on, I can certianly see your point about unfounded accusations, now.

Guess I missed that article...Any chance you've got a link ? Not being facetious, I really would like to see this article that you're talking about.

Hey, while I'm thinking about it, why is Dennis Hastert lying about Edwards if the republicans aren't threatened by him ? This is from an AP story this morning:

"It's not a very balanced ticket," House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., told reporters. "Senator Kerry is the No. 1 liberal in the Senate and Senator Edwards is the No. 4 liberal in the Senate."

"There has been a trend over the years that has rejected those liberals that come home and talk conservative," said House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas. "That's why Republicans are the overwhelming majority party all across the South."

Although Hastert said Edwards "didn't even carry his own state against Kerry," Edwards won both his native South Carolina during the competitive phase of the primary race and then North Carolina, which gave Edwards a victory even after he had dropped from the race.

Bill aka Slick Willy

The Kerry-Edwards campaign starts out on a high note. From the AP, this quote from Sen. Kerry today:
"I want you to know we think this is a dream ticket. We've got better vision. We've got better ideas. We've got real plans. We've got a better sense of what's happening to America." "And," Kerry added with a grin, "we've got better hair. I'll tell you, that goes a long way."
So, the Kerry-Edwards ticket has better vision (a slap in the face to all who wear glasses or contacts ;) ), ideas that have yet to be articulated, plans without a sense of direction, and a sense of what's happening but they can only couch that in the most pessimistic terms by polarizing classes against one another.

But on a positive note, they do have GREAT HAIR! :rotfl: Elect us because between us we are worth possibly billions of $$ so we can afford the best hair care -- something the working poor, average Joe Schmoe and rural working American can only dream of. What a message!

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Over time, Mr. Edwards became quite selective about cases. Liability had to be clear, his competitors and opponents say, and the potential award had to be large.

"He took only those cases that were catastrophic, that would really capture a jury's imagination," Mr. Wells, a defense lawyer, said. "He paints himself as a person who was serving the interests of the downtrodden, the widows and the little children. Actually, he was after the cases with the highest verdict potential. John would probably admit that on cross-examination."

All I get at the link is "page not found", but from your quote, all I see is a man named Wells speculating about what Edwards would say...It doesn't even identify "Wells" as a former collegue...Not sure what this is supposed to show, really...

Wells is a defense attorney. I'm sure given the trial law business things are well know about potential opponents. But, you perhaps are right, the postion is unfounded given my source. When will I learn to never trust the New York Times.

Unless Wells was Edwards' partner she's not in a position to know how he chose his cases -- she can only speculate by what she saw in the courtroom.

Er, um...technically Edwards had only one primary victory, that of SC. NC didn't have a primary this election year, I do not believe. I think they only held a caucus.

Yea, right. Like the attorney community doesn't talk.

Or based on his financial results.

not exactly.

If I am retained by someone who was injured, and their case is a bit shakey, and I settle the case for them for a modest amount, I'm not going to put their case up on my website as a "victory" and it's not going to appear in the local legal newspaper, so unless you're the attorney for the opposing party you wouldn't know I ever had that case.
