Joe's Crab Shack

Has anyone been? Thoughts?

We did the one in Florida and it was good. The one in Chicago was terrible. Now, with that being said, we drove by the one in our Chicago suburb on Sunday on our way home from PF Chang's and Joe Crab's Shack was closed and replaced by something else. Don't know if it is one of those restaurants going out of business or not.

We had dinner at the one in LBV and it was great. I also thoroughly enjoyed one of Joe's delicious Fishbowl beverages! :drinking1

It's a hit or miss. We have them all over the place here, and some are okay-to-good but some are horrible. I've never been to the one(s) in Orlando.

It's the casual/low-end member of the Landry's family, and it's a lot of fun for most kids - loud, musical, singing/dancing by the staff, big playgrounds outside. The food is standard, fried shrimp, fish in various presentations, various crab legs, platters of fried or broiled stuff. When they are busier, I find the quality is better simply because they aren't holding cooked stuff in the kitchen as long waiting for someone to order it.

We really liked the one in Orlando (in 2006 at least). I had us drive out of our way to go to the one in Portland Oregon last year, and it was so disappointing. Disgustingly dirty. Restaurants that serve food drenched in butter to kids really need to wash windows on a daily basis, if you know what I mean.

DH and I have tried the one in San Diego and also the one on the out-skirts of Chicago. The San Diego one was good but the Chicago one was just ok. From a previous post, it sounds like the Chicago one may be gone. Sorry I cannot comment on the Orlando one.

We've only tried Joe's in Texas and it is okay seafood but nothing too special. We would go there when we wanted a cheap fried shrimp platter.

It is good for kids though & the menu has lots that they like.

You get what you pay for in a lot of cases and this is one of them. What can we expect from a place that offers seafood for less than $15 per person?;)

I've been to the one here in Destin and it was decent. I prefer Landry's, its more $$ but better service and food IMO.

We have one in town, no better or worse than Red Lobster....try Fultons instead..a bit pricey but AMAZING food!

We eat there often enough... DH LOVES their crab legs. And not many places have dungeness crab, and they offer quite a variety of seasonings.
Anyone we have taken to Joe's really likes them. We more often go to the one on 192 at Celebration. But the other is good too, not far from DTD.
I have never been disappointed in food or service at Joe's.
Their coconut shrimp is very yummy too.

We ate at the Joes at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach for the first time last June. We absolutely loved it! The food was delicious & the atmosphere was super fun. We can't wait to go back.

Okay, so I'll probably get flamed by those who seem to like the joint, but we've had one down here in Clearwater for years, and I've been there twice in the past decade. Both times the food was absolutely horrible, the service miserable and we were disgusted with it....perhaps it's just that we're spoiled with so many real seafood joints near the beaches, raw bars, etc., but we've always wondered how the place stays in business because no one we know is willing to eat there any more due to repeated bad food & service....

The only saving grace I have for the place is that I do like their tie-dyed shirts with the Peace, Love & Crabs motto...
