It seems like the defense couldn't possibly think those text messages could help her case, yet doesn't the prosecution want to keep them out? I think the concern is, on both sides really, that Travis and Jodi were both nuts, both co-dependent, both "perverted", both angry, and it depends on the jury which way it plays out. But the thing is, Jodi is there to explain herself away; Travis is not.
