Job Search

We've had some luck with headhunters, but DH has gotten the best jobs by just networking. He should join a professional organization for his trade. Even if he doesn't want to actually tell people he's looking (so that it doesn't get back to his boss), if you impress people enough, they'll try to lure you away from your current employer when they have a job to fill. I heard the other day that 85% of jobs get filled before they advertise in the paper or elsewhere. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but it definitely pays to get your name out on your own.

I used to search for my DH and send out resumes for him. He was busy working and appreciated the help. It's no big deal. Am I missing something? :confused3

No, there's no big deal. There are just some people who love to belittle the OP as much as they can.

I think it says a lot for any spouse to assist the other with their job search! I say, "Good for you who do that"! :flower:

1. College Alumni Association.

2. Trade Associations. Example, my wife is a music teacher and she belongs to a Statewide group (OMEA) that posts vacancies. Good luck.

In the industry that my boyfriend and I are in, there are special websites and newsletters that post jobs.

This is his last week at work, and I also keep an eye out for leads for him.

And as someone else suggested, go to the websites of companies he may be interested in and look at their job postings.

You might want him to sit down with you and help you fill out some applications on careerbuilder and monster initially. There's certain keywords people look for with online resume submissions and he'll be able to better word his applications than you because obviously it's his resume.

I would scout for career fairs, check the classifieds, and have him actually drop off his resume at places he would like to work at.

LoraJ, why would you say that?
I have never belittled her. I have read posts from her in the past that her husband gave her no help with her Toddler and from her recent posts she sounds a bit overwhelmed with having the newborn AND the Toddler. Have you ever read a post where I have belittled her? I don't understand why you would say that? :sad2:
If anything, I am on HER side because I felt bad about those posts in the past about her husband not helping her. That's fine if she wants to help him find the job, maybe he has changed, I don't know ......
but please don't accuse me of something I have never done.

I've been helping my husband as well. Mostly just keeping an eye out for something that he might be interested in. He does the rest.

My question is how to find a headhunter? Is there a listing in the yellow pages to look under? I see all kinds of "temp" agencies, but he would be more for professional placement.

This is probably a stupid question, but I really don't know.

It just seems to me that people like to jump on her for everything she posts, and it gets tiring. It didn't seem to me that you were on her side. Sorry if I took what you said wrong.

Well, I can't answer for what other people do and I'm really not on the DIS that often anymore (most of my posts are from 3-4 years ago), so I'm not always up on what's going on. but please don't lump me in with other people, it is just me, myself, and I sitting here at my computer. :)
Apology accepted. :)
